The steam sauna works weird every day. Some days you hardly get much steam, some days you think you're going to get third degree burns if you don't get out after five minutes. Warming pool has been down since I joined and now hot tub motor is broken. Several machines down. I'm paying more here because I expected more. Also, I think in the 2 months I've been here only one front desk member has addressed me with a hello or goodbye. Your members are the sole reason you have a job. Greet people. Don't just stare at your computer screen as we walk by. I'm old school And this is rude. I've even slowed down as I walk by and tried to make eye contact with no success. Luckily, the upside is the members who come here are a little friendlier and have more common sense and courtesy than most places. So there's that. But so far not impressed with where my extra money is going.

Their class selection felt intentional, and for a $37 drop-in, the value was definitely there. I took a 90-minute Bikram class where we move through the full sequence twice. It felt less about perfection and more about understanding the poses and transitions. Coming from my usual studio, the teaching style felt more formal. We were encouraged not to take water breaks out of respect for others' practice, which was challenging in the 108° heat but also pushed me to stay present and disciplined. The instructor was knowledgeable, calm, and easy to follow, guiding transitions clearly throughout. The space was clean and spacious, with dressing rooms, bathrooms, and secure cubbies. I also appreciated that they lock the doors during class. Nice touch that they provided a yoga towel for my mat plus two additional towels after check-in. Overall, a grounding experience that deepened my appreciation for the practice.

Alyx and Oliver bring incredible energy, the workout is challenging in the best way, and the atmosphere is so welcoming. If it's your first class or you're visiting from out of town, they have mats and mat towels available to rent.

I could see the potential the two teachers from whom I took class have, but was dissapointed with…read morethe classes overall. This unique studio is located in the top, back corner of the mall. It is not easy to find if you are using Google maps. Upon entering the space, I wasn't sure where the front of the studio was. The entryway extends along one side where you place your belongings. I had to be guided to the mats and tools. The large space has uneven floors that might be radiant heated. There is a loose check in process wherein you sign a piece of paper. Although we had registered online, no one ever asked us if we had done so, nor did they confirm our attendance by checking. The first class we attended was taught by a substitute. We set up against the wall for this Therapeutic Hatha practice. The sequence was fine, the teacher was nice and she used the props in creative ways. I modified as I needed to and felt the overall experience was good. The second class was with a male teacher. It was titled as "Hatha Yoga," but it felt much more like an ashtanga style class in regard to the posturing and cues. The teacher got our attention at the beginning by saying something like, "We're three minutes past start time, get settled so we can begin at a reasonable time." There were no introductions or any establishment of connection. He did not greet us as we arrived, check in, nor provide guidance for setting up. He directed us into the first posture, poorly explaining how to use the tools to set it up. As experienced practitioners, at first we felt like the practice had a good vinyasa krama. Then, we all agreed, it's like someone grabbed the wheel and turned it completely off course. The cueing was unclear (he would say "inhale your right leg," and provide no other guidance). The asana sequence did not feel good. The teacher didn't appear to have an awareness of the bodes or needs of those attending the class. Following the closing of the class, the group all said, "Thank you David," at which point we learned his name. While I may return to this studio, I will defintely be doing so with discernment after my experience. I visit Carmel often and have a friend there who is searching for a studio. She has decided this is not the one for her. However, as I said, the teachers and studio have potential to create a truly special place to practice in Carmel (plus you can get donuts and/or cheese afterward).

It was 10am and there I was with 3 other people and no instructor. The class was canceled. I wasted my last morning in Carmel and was not going to wait 90 minutes for my brunch reservation which cost me $32. This is very unprofessional, disappointing and a waste of my time.

The Village has stepped up to fill the void and is a gorgeous space that serves as an event and wedding venue, dining destination, but most recently, has opened to offer upscale coffee and pastries in the morning hours. The selection is more limited than Big Sur Bakery but includes a solid choice of coffee drinks and pastries before offering some hot kitchen items like a breakfast sandwich starting at 9:30. The vibes of the building and the indoor and outdoor seating space are top notch with manicured lawns, rustic wood tables and open spaces. The Village only Parking is plentiful and its adjacent to the convenient General Store for supplies and the River Inn for lodging. We ordered a sampling of their $9 lattes (Chai and Matcha) and coffee (espresso tonic) as well as several pastries. The highlight were the candy cap (mushroom) muffins and chocolate chip cookie although I also enjoyed the baguette sandwich. Credit cards are accepted and there's plentiful seating inside and outdoor. Judging by the crowds, The Village is a welcome fancier (albeit pricier) option for those who miss Big Sur Bakery.
