Why is this place always runs so warm! I'm always gasping for air. They run it like at 70 degrees or it feels too warm for a gym! The jacuzzi jets been off for a month! The steam sauna works weird every day. Some days you hardly get much steam, some days you think you're going to get third degree burns if you don't get out after five minutes. Still keep my membership because it's conveniently located. But please fix things faster and turn the thermostat to 66 to keep the place comfortable. read more

At 87.00 monthly I was expecting a 5 star treatment. I realize it takes a lot of money and resources to keep a facility like this running but so far not impressed. Warming pool has been down since I joined and now hot tub motor is broken. Several machines down. I'm paying more here because I expected more. Also, I think in the 2 months I've been here only one front desk member has addressed me with a hello or goodbye. Your members are the sole reason you have a job. Greet people. Don't just stare at your computer screen as we walk by. I'm old school And this is rude. I've even slowed down as I walk by and tried to make eye contact with no success. The warm therapy pool is closed once again because of the pool heater. It was just closed four months ago for a similar problem. Before that it was the hot tub's heater and it was closed for over a month. The Salinas pool has been closed for a year with no opening date in sight. The instructors go on medical leave for six months or more, but they don't find replacements for the classes. The front desk could care less about your complaints or concerns, they're just rude. We just joined, so far so good. The pool has 4 lanes, 8 people can swim. We have yet had to wait to get in which I like. The temperature of the pool is great, perfect for me actually. I'm guessing it's around 84°? The locker room is clean. I only walk through there, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it if need be. The place is never full when we go - which I like. No kids- which I love. Ample weight machines, treadmills, etc. for people who like that. They also have a bunch of TVs for people to watch while using the machines. All in all I'm happy. They do have an initiation fee which was kind of a drag, but I don't think it's overpriced for what they have to offer. read more

This review is for the customer service I received. My husband and I are in town for 6 weeks and did a short term membership. We were supposed to start today on 4/21. Well over the weekend the hubs injured his Achilles and I came down with a horrible cold. We remembered that they told us when we paid that there was a 5-day take-back period where you could get a full refund. I called quite frankly expecting a run-around because I've had that experience before. But wonderful Adrian answered the phone, I told him what was going on and he said he'd speak to the manager and get back to me. I thought ok here we go. But they proved me wrong again. Adrien left me a voicemail within 30 minutes telling me the full refund was approved and then sent me an email when it had been processed. So I can't really comment on use of the facilities because we never got that far. But we thought it looked very clean when we were walking through. For my husband it had all the machines he likes and the lap pool for me altho I did think it felt a bit warm in that room. But when we come back to town next year we will absolutely join again because of the great service. I wish I could remember the manager's name we worked with to sign up. I want to say Shannon? Awful. There are so many terrible things about this place. Where do I start? I just cancelled my membership after being a member for a year. I worked out 3-5 times a week in that time. 1.- The customer service is awful. Chris the manager is aloof and quite rude. The front office staff get genuinely bothered if you have a question or comment. I must say that the physical trainers are very sweet and nice. One of the few highlights. 2.- The facility. It is a newer facility so the management gets by on that fact and cleaning is inconsistent and not very good. The pool is often filled with hair, spiders and other floaties. It is gross. 3.- The facility. The mens sauna room was out of order for most of the year. The facility itself was closed for a week in July and they telling us we could just go to the Salinas one was said like they were doing us such a favor. 4.- No Lifeguard. The majority of the patrons here are elderly and there is absolutely no one in the pool section to monitor or supervise. A staff member walks by every once in awhile, but if there is an emergency with one of the elder patients using the pools, it would take some time for them to know. Not ok. No one monitors people showering before using the pool, which is probably why it is so filthy. I have seen on multiple occasions patients swimming in their underwear, or wearing shoes, or staff members themselves going in after a weight workout, sweaty and disgusting. 5.- Expensive - Go to the Monterey Sports Center. Clean, nice , brand new equipment... for less. read more

Facility in Marina looks top notch but they treat Salinas like an unwanted step child--even though it's where their primary physical therapy rehab rehabilitation center is--footprints are not equal in terms of equipment (no spa, sauna too) and management is not customer service oriented, but antagonistic. both facility managers seem like poor hires that they got stuck with-- It makes no sense, but you'd be better off going to In shape for a third of the price and you can get racquetball courts too!!! read more

A gym with group excercises is so much needed in Marina. The facility is nice, has good equipement. However, somehow Montage has managed to get rid of so many good teachers!! It is so unfortunate, but one can say that nowdays there are almost no classes offered! There are a handful of teachers, and most classes are taught by one of them. If you don't like that style, tough luck! A good number of good teachers have been there before, The last one was Harmony... they manage to get rid of her too!. So, basically the only thing you could go there for would be for the equipment. But, their membership is just too high (80 plus) for just their equipment. One can go accross the street for that at a much lower membership and extended period of time (opened till much later). I was a member here for over 3 years, but I quit. Their offering is not worth the price. They need to look seriously at their administration (or lack of it) read more

I've been a member for about 2 years so it pains me to say this, but I had a terrible experience with very incompetent employees tonight. I came in and asked to rent a locker, which should be pretty easy. Nope. The system they use for managing locker rentals is a few pieces of paper with random notes written all over it with years of outdated information. Not a spreadsheet, not an app, a few pieces of paper. I went into the women's locker room with a female employee to try and find a locker to inspect and rent, and the employee couldn't figure out how to open any of the combo locks. She left and got a coworker to help. This employee also struggled to open any lockers, and when they finally did manage to open a locker that was "available for rent" it was filled with someone's property and clearly in use. This happened 6 more times!!! I finally told them we should stop opening lockers because clearly your system is insanely flawed and I don't feel comfortable opening lockers that people have clearly already rented and have their belongings in. The worst part, the employees handed me the sheet of paper several times and told me I could try to find an open a locker and use the locker combinations on the sheet to open whatever locker looked available. I guess it didn't occur to them they just handed me the combinations to every single locker in the locker room. This is embarrassing, pathetic and frankly unacceptable. It's really not hard to manage a locker rental system. What sucks the most, is seeing how poorly they do this simple task, makes me really wonder if they're doing other things right like keeping equipment clean or the pool water PH levels right. Incredibly disappointed. If you're currently renting a locker from this gym I highly recommend requesting a new locker combo because they have no problem sharing the master list with anyone. read more

Today I called to check if they cancelled my membership since I requested it weeks ago, turned out they didn't and the manager "Shannon' was so disrespectful, he has no clue who he's messing with. At first, 80 bucks seemed like a lot for a gym, especially when I was shopping around in Dec. and Monterey Rec had their yearly special and a yearly membership would've been around $35 p/month if paid up front. However, Montage is a month-to-month membership, and that worked in my favor. I was looking for a place to do lap swimming and on most days I would be able to find a lane for myself. Once in a while you'd get young people in the evenings who wanted to hang out in the pool and not get a work-out in. But if you wait enough in the hot tub, eventually a lane opens up. Then on weekends, if you go too early, you get the older people who walk in the pool really slowly for a looong time taking up most lanes. Other than that, Montage is clean enough, has saunas in the locker rooms, and the weights are always properly put away and well organized. I didn't really use the cardio machines since it's Monterey and I'd rather go outdoors for my walks, but they always looked clean and working, so I assume they're alright. i see why ai is taking over! i enrolled on thursday, the front desk person told me he could not show me around but, i could go walk around see if i like it. i came back an enrolled because i like the location and enrolled was $50. instead of $200. i am poor. but, i have a credit card, so i signed up it took 10 minutes. the next day i came back at 5:30am for a class the instructor was late the class room was tiny so, i went to lift weights. i was looking for a rope machine did not find one. i worked out for one hour. i was leaving at 6:30an i stopped at the front desk a female worker was sitti ng down on barstool i think is was a barstool very layback. i asked her if the had anything like a rope machine and she quickly said no. she did not offer to walk with and say maybe this will work better then a rope machine i know there has to be something like it. she could jave showed me anything or recommend something there was two peole at the front desk. she just did not want to stand up and walk. i left very sad.... i think the magority of clients are over 70yearsold. so staff can careless. i can't wait to be helped by an ai robot they are atleast intelligent. the y have one already at montage hospital. read more

I just joined and went for the first time after my initial tour orientation and signing up. My first time there to exercise was not a good experience. I checked myself in at the front desk and staff were huddled at front desk chatting and relating with each other and did not greet me. No problem and don't care. What I do care about is I did not see any staff for the entire 2 hrs in the pool area while I was there. I utilized the hot tub, pool and warm pool--all were clean. And the facility was clean. Around the warm pool there were strewn about pool noodles and water weights. I watched to see if those items were being used by anyone. It appeared not. But the moment I touched a water weight I was reprimanded by an older lady from the opposite side of the pool that those belonged to her. I apologized and immediately put the water weight back. Understandably an innocent mistake. Had there been staff available policing the area I could have asked about the use of the water equipment, but no staff were available. And such an awkward moment could have been avoided. New people feel awkward and unsure in new and strange places. I noticed when the older lady left the pool she did not take her water weights and put them back in the bins. So I wonder if the courtesy of putting things back where you got them is not a protocol followed here. The use of pool noodles and water weights were not covered in my initial orientation. Never-the-less I will give this facility another try although I will enter with careful caution. I am considering cancelling my new membership and going elsewhere, but I will take a wait and see stance for the time being. If you're thinking about a membership at this place, it's okay, but don't touch their water weights. read more

I'm only 5 days into my membership here. I'm honestly leaving a message partly to offset what feels like other unfair reviews, but do feel I can leave a fair review of first impressions. I did check this place out last year. It was a special - pay 20.19 for initiation and monthly fee after that. I turned it down as I wasn't ready to move on from my PG gym yet. 2020 came around - same deal applied, 20.20 this time for onboarding. As some reviewers write, yes it's 60-80ish per month. I was ready this time, because I get: Large and clean restrooms and lockers, showers, steam room (which is awesome and has been working consistently), hot tub, lap pool when I'm ready, classes that are rarely full from what I hear, new and modern equipment, no kids, and I just don't miss the type of people that think chatting on the phone while on elliptical is OK. It has never been so busy that I can't do what I came to do. And when I want, there are other perks. Massage prices for example are super reasonable. This is not the gym to see or be seen. There are plenty of alternate gyms around for that. I see plenty of 30 and 40 somethings here, and up - fit, friendly, minding their own business, getting it done and getting on with the day. There are physical therapy patients here doing just the same. All of this, the times and variety of classes, the helpful and friendly staff and great facility won me over so far, and it might for you too. I don't think the tour is a "hard sell" as much as they want you to see everything you're getting. I feel it's been such a worthwhile upgrade. read more

I was interested in learning about this gym but the membership person that called me back refused to answer most of my questions over the telephone. She insisted that I had to come in to the gym to do a "tour". I informed her that I was not interested in a "hard sell" and finally got her to give me a cost range of $65-85 per month. I declined a tour. Several months later, I saw an ad for discounted membership. I sent an email to the membership department stating that I was interested in a membership and wanted information. I added a note to let them know that I work out consistently and know what I am looking for so I would not be interested in a "hard sell". They did not respond to my email. I think it is odd that the membership department refuses to answer relevant membership questions unless you physically visit the gym. It has been my experience that facilities that operate like this are interested in a "hard sell" and will pressure you to sign a membership agreement when you visit. These gyms generally cannot compete with facilities that do not engage in these business practices. I refuse to do business with a company that engages in these practices. There are plenty of good and less expensive gyms in the area that will not pressure you like Montage. read more

Buyer beware...been a member for 10 years and facilities have considerably gone downhill. Women's showers ALWAYS DIRTY with mold in the grout, hair everywhere in the stalls and VERY low water pressure. Amenities such as the sauna, jacuzzi and swimsuit spinner, workout equipment ALWAYS seems to be broken and takes FOREVER to repair. Facility does not make any adjustments to your monthly dues for the lack of broken amenities. Also does not notify you on monthly dues increases. Staff at front desk always seem to be doing nothing, however there are maybe 1 or 2 staff members that are great. For the amount they charge for initiation fees and monthly dues this facility is NOT up to par...MUCH improvement is needed to get your money's worth. read more

ZZZBest gym I've belonged to. Clean. I like the higher prices as it keeps overcrowding down, equipment clean and in good condition, roid heads and meat gawkers out. All the trainers are degreed and much more knowledgable than other gyms. Great and really necessary for those that have not worked out before. Even if one thinks it's cost prohibitive, inexperienced need to do at least 10 sessions to get a proper customized routine, learn proper form and gym etiquette. Not doing so will put you light years behind your success or you can end up hurting yourself. We were very fortunate to get Avery as our trainer. Joanne helped us get the best plan for our needs. The free classes are outstanding, very well presented, open to the public AND attendees can get a free session. I do wish for more 45 lb plates and lat pulldown equipment. Partly cuz it's in Marina, it can get muggy , stuffy and sometimes uncomfortably warm at times. Opening some doors or windows could help. read more

Dishonest! I called the membership coordinator who briefly described the gym amenities and told me she would leave a pass at front desk so I could try gym for free. She advised I would only be able to obtain gym membership prices by going to the gym for a consultation. I dropped by and she advised me of the following prices: $75 per person and $55 if you join with a second person; both including a $200 initiation fee! They couldn't tell me over the phone? What really made me mad is that she said I couldn't work out and she would never give someone a free pass. What a lie! She lied over the phone and turned it around on me! I can't give it any more than this, but if I could, I'd give it negative stars. I was referred here for physical therapy. I arrived at 3:05 for a 3:15 appointment. I was greeted with "I am going to have to reschedule you, you were supposed to be here at 2:45 to fill out paperwork". If I NEED to be somewhere at 2:45, then my appointment should have been made for 2:45, not for 3:15. I took time off from work to be there and to be spoken to like a child, there is no way I would ever recommend this place for physical therapy. read more

This has been my gym since January and I love it! I have never been a gym guy but like to exercise. I have gotten out of shape over the years and looking to get back in shape, Infound this gym. It's not a normal gym with that meathead vibe. I feel super comfortable and you can't beat a steam room and hot tub after your work out. During covid, it feels really safe and clean. They are taking all of the precautions and are doing it right. It is pricey but it's a higher end gym. For me it's worth the price because it gives me a comfortable environment to work out in that other gyms don't. read more

I've been a member here for over a year now, and it is truly silly to see what people give low ratings for - really nothing to do with the facility itself, but some mishap that they encountered personally. Oh Yelpers, how talented you are at making a mountain out of a molehill. Any administrative hiccups which have earned a low rating for this place are far from my reality - I have only experienced smooth, courteous service and no discrepancies with accounting or missed phone calls. This place is not supposed to be like CVAC or InShape - it's a HEALTH CARE FACILITY which happens to have a gym. It's like an added bonus, and the membership is expensive and limited so that the space isn't congested for their patients (thank you, love that). I used to work at a gym in college (a very nice one, actually, which many locals reading this probably used at some time) and to service that facility was disgusting beyond all reason. I can't even tell you what I regularly encountered there without getting graphic. I am extremely particular due to that experience, and really researched this facility before accepting the responsibility of a more-than-normal-cost membership. I would have ADORED a membership at CVAC, don't get me wrong - but that place is luxurious beyond my budget, which I'm sure is the case for many locals. Rather than getting a low cost membership at some nasty place where I am sure to contract toe fungus, I paid the extra $ to enjoy a cleaner, less congested experience at PWC. No, it isn't as luxurious as what some of our Pebble Beach friends might be used to, but it is extremely functional and pragmatic, featuring above-average workout space and equipment, a wonderful pool, and spacious, fully equipped locker rooms. In fact, the locker room is the biggest reason why I have a membership here - it's much nicer than many places I've been. The staff is unobtrusive (great for an introvert like me who keeps my head down at the gym), but very friendly and quick to give you a warm greeting or farewell on your way past them. My only reason for 4 stars is that I wish the showers and sauna were just a smidge cleaner. Get in there with a wire brush and some bleach or something every now and then - but that could be me. I also worked in really high end hospitality for a very long time where our bathrooms were maintained like new...so I'm spoiled. I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a NICE gym that doesn't kill your bank account. read more

Overall I enjoy coming here for my workouts but I can see how it's not for everybody. The pros: Location - I come from Seaside and workout in the mornings so it was important to me to have something north of me to avoid heavy traffic. This is one of the few options Equipment - decent, clean and never had to wait for a cardio machine. Pool- good size, additional warm water therapy pool and whirlpool. Locker rooms - very nice and clean, good steam room. Staff - all have been pleasant to me so far, nice bunch. Cons- Expensive - very pricey compared to the competition, though it prevents crowding for sure. Fees- initiation fee was at a discounted $75, month to month but with 30 day written notice AND a cancellation charge of 50-100. So I can see why people get frustrated with billing, they really nickle and dime you. Classes - for whatever reason I just haven't clicked with the instructors in the 4 classes I tried. I'm sure plenty of people do, just not for me. Kinda bummed about that. Hours- I really would like to see them open later, especially on Sundays. 4pm is so SO early to close, what a shame I miss working out Sun evenings. This is the best place since sliced bread!! I will have to admit that I have never been one to work out in the past, however, after a check up 4 years ago my Dr. encouraged me to join a gym. From the moment I walked in, I knew this place was for me. The kids ( I call them that because I could be their grandfather) have always been so kind and welcoming and even greet me by name each time I arrive. The staff is some of the best on the Monterey Peninsula and the management team (I call them the dynamic duo) of Kristine and Chris are the hardest working young professionals I have met in a long. I have seen them in the morning when I arrive and on my late night visits and even weekends and holidays. Always greet me with a smile and even help me with my routine. This place has helped me lose weight, gain strength and even improve my balance. I have read some of the negative reviews and do not understand, do these people even use this place? Most of the reviews on here are about petty little things. The only negative thing about this gym is the other members negative attitudes when the rest of us are trying to enjoy something good. The place is always clean and the staff are ready to help you when you have questions or concerns. I really liked how they give you a free Health Risk Assessment to help guide those of us who are inexperienced. For those of you who are unhappy, they have a pretty easy cancellation process!
