For starters, the restaurant is very much a sports bar that looks like the kind of place lots of people would go to drink pitcher of beer in the evenings. I'm not sure if this is accurate, but that's the vibe I'm getting. Food promises to be that of a gastropub, and perhaps according to the locals this is what they consider a "gastropub". I think it's a sports bar with a menu that is a half step up from regular pub fare. Since its new, I want to reserve a lot of judgement; servers are friendly, but you can tell everything isn't worked in and seamless (but it has the potential to, I'm sure of it). Food is... Fine. Doesn't in any way cater to dietary issues (e.g., gluten sensitivities) but that's a small town pub for you. Burgers are good. I would like to try out the patio some night and then see how I feel. I know this place is definitely a good addition to the town so lets hope it finds some regulars who love pub fare and want to become the regulars.

Everything was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The Summer Salad was light and refreshing, the fish was perfectly cooked, and the Lobster Roll was another great one to add to our Nova Scotia lobster roll tour. The garlic Parmesan fries were definitely worth the upgrade. Between the friendly service, beautiful waterfront setting, and delicious food, Nook and Cranny was a wonderful lunch stop. If you're passing through Pictou, I'd definitely recommend checking it out!

Great place to come for lunch. We arrived at 11:10am and a tour bus dropped in at 11:30. We beat the crowd.

The menu is mostly what you'd expect from an East Coast chip wagon - fries, burger, hotdogs and fish and chips - but it does have a few items to stand out a little bit, like deep fried pepperoni, mozza sticks and a steak sandwich. We areived close to closing time, so they were out of fish and I went with their cheeseburger instead. My wife chose good ol' mozza sticks. It was a short wait, and it'd ve hard to complain with the water views anyway, and we soon had our hearty fare. My cheeseburger was minimally adorned, with just the cheese and some fried onions (optional), although you could top it yourself with ketchup and mustard by the trailer's window. The flavour was classic diner burger, with a crisp crust from cooking on a flat top, and the melty cheese and fried onions were *chef's kiss*. A lightly toasted bun further supported these spot-on burger fundamentals. With apps like mozza sticks, whether at a food truck or pub, you know they're coming from a freezer bag. However, they were still properly cooked, with golden-brown breading and melty cheese inside. The flavour took me back to my days of crushing orders of these at The Thistle for dinner while working weekend shifts at Aberdeen Cinemas! While it'd be nice to see a few more specialty dishes and/or add-ons (bacon?!) at Mama Red's, mother definitely knows best and is doing what she does very well.

What they have that you won't find anywhere outside of Pictou County "Pictou County sauce", a brown, gravy-like coating for your pizza. Now, before you say 'eeeeew', be brave, foodie, and try it. We did and...we found it wierdly appealing. It's a bit spicy and adds zip to the pie. The crust is medium-thick, with a narrow outer rim that keeps in the toppings and doesn't take up valuable topping space. All the standard toppings are available, but there's nothing fancy. Good cheese, well distributed. A large combination (pepperoni, green pepper & mushroom) with extra cheese was $17, tax included. Hot slices are $4; cold slices are $2. We'll have pizza from Crown--with PC sauce--next time we're here with a craving for 'za.
