Uneven/worn finish teak deck. Unstable docks.
    April H.

Please know that I have made it a point to only post positive YELP reviews. That is until now. We have been at Marina Cortez for 10+ years. We submitted our 30 day lease termination notice June 1, 2019 in person at the marina office. We were assured that the management would contact us on Monday (2 days later) with details of move-out, deposit refund and key return. No contact was made. We were at Marina Cortez both yesterday (Saturday) & today (Sunday). Due to the now public pay parking, there were no spots available in the main parking lot. We went in the office today, and the same woman who received our termination letter last week was lackadaisical and hesitant to help us. She said that there is always turnover at marinas and showed us a folder an inch thick of recent termination notices at Marina Cortez. Our monthly lease was raised March 2019 +$70 and now again +$35 effective July 2019. Rationale offers weak justification. The parking is now public pay which means our guests must pay for parking. And as I mentioned, parking lot is full without spots for boat owners. The new deli has limited offerings and no beer or wine license. The trash overflow is an eye sore and a disgust. The teak docks are poorly maintained, uneven surface and unstable at slips. We are very pleased to find a welcoming marina close by with plenty of free parking, no additional charge for electricity, free WiFi, an exceptional Deli, spa jacuzzi AND 15% less monthly lease. We are looking forward to joining a boating community that values our patronage. Contrary to their attempt to convince us that our satisfaction is of utmost importance, Marina Cortez has deteriorated their customer service and minimized their respect for boaters leasing slips at their locale. I recommend due diligence to stay away from Marina Cortez.

Not sure what the negative reviews are for. This marina is great! The staff is very helpful and attentive and the location is amazing.

The Marina is in a great location and although the pool and laundry are a bit small, Carol, the office manager makes this a top choice.

To the Karen at Harbor Island West Marina:…read more My husband walked me to the showers at Harbor Island West Marina. After I finished showering, I was drying off my shower shoes at the first sink in the women's restroom. A Caucasian woman suddenly walked in, chose the sink right next to me--despite several others being available--and aggressively threw her keys or badge near my area. I found it odd, but tried to brush it off. I walked outside and told my husband, who had been patiently waiting for me. She followed shortly after and walked toward the dock area. Before we left, my husband went to the restroom, and I waited. As we approached the parking lot, I noticed her walking toward me again. Before she even spoke, I had a feeling I knew exactly what was coming--like something straight out of the "Karen" TikToks and Instagram videos I've seen. She rudely and aggressively asked, "Do you have a slip here?" I was caught off guard--shocked this was actually happening. She asked again, as if I didn't hear her the first time. I turned to my husband, unsure of our slip number, and before we could even explain, she escalated her tone and said, "Well, I thought it was weird that you were taking a shower and he was waiting for you. Then he goes into the bathroom, and now you're leaving. I've never seen you here before." My husband (a retired police officer), was waiting for me because there was only one badge for entry between us, so it was not weird at all. We told her that yes--we do have a slip. My husband has actually been staying here for nearly three weeks. She continued to insist that our presence was "weird," and said, "I watch out for this place." As a Filipino and person of color, I have never experienced racism so directly. The way she treated us--her assumptions, accusations, and tone--made me feel deeply disgusted and unwelcome. If this is how she treats strangers who don't look like her, I can only imagine how she treats others.

Very strange of the City of San Diego Permitting Process not to require this simple but necessary requirement for tenants not getting a break from the slip fees, the extended stay fees (this Marina's current word salad for Live Aboard Fees), other fees fees fees, etc during the renovation.

Happily Ever After Reception at Marina Village was amazing…read more We booked their largest venue hall that host 300 people. It's an upstairs-downstairs venue but no elevator. They do a great job disclosing that. This venue is located right off the marina so there's several photo opportunities as well. The parking is ample. This particular hall had a bathroom upstairs and downstairs. There's a full bar area, serving area, and the layout is yours to do with. They provide tables, chairs, but no dance floor because there's wooden floors. If you're considering an even, check them out. They have several halls and rooms to choose from for any of your events.

Marina Village: What can I say? This was one of the worst customer service experiences we've ever…read morehad. The lack of communication and the miserable spirit in that office are shocking. Before I continue, I do want to mention the woman sitting in the corner--I believe she works on the corporate side. She was a delight to work with and a breath of fresh air compared to the two miserable women who share the office with her.Let's start with your very first interaction when you walk through the door. The receptionist is essentially Wednesday Addams on downers. She has absolutely no personality and is not welcoming at all. I don't know if she and her desk mate went to the same class for blank expressions and terrible customer service, but they provide the absolute bare minimum. Talking to the receptionist on the phone is like pulling teeth without anesthetic. I don't know who hired these people. I don't care if you're miserable because the venue is falling apart and will probably be torn down soon; you still have a job to do. That job is to provide customer service, answer questions, and be polite. She fails in all of those areas. Now for the main event: Roslyn. This woman is the most miserable person I've ever met in my entire life. She is the absolute queen of blank stares, dismissiveness, entitlement, and withholding information. She is a curmudgeon who never has a good day, even when she tries to fake a smile. She was the absolute worst to work with. If we didn't have to hold our specific event here, I would have cussed her out or pulled her over the desk.I don't know if this woman thinks we can read her mind. We don't do her job, so we don't automatically know the required steps for planning an event at this venue. Yet, every single question seems to be a massive problem for her. Every breath she takes seems like a chore. She is one of those people who clearly hates coming to work every day, and she makes sure everyone who crosses her path feels that misery.I have worked with a lot of venues and put together many events. When I say I have never worked with a staff so miserable and incompetent, I mean it. Whoever is doing the hiring probably needs to be fired too, because this attitude is consistent across the board. I have watched them deal with other customers, and they treat everyone with the exact same miserable attitude day in and day out. When you're planning an event almost a year in advance, you have to contact the venue numerous times. You might think they just had a bad day, but no--every single day is a bad day for them.Management needs to do something about this. The way they treat customers is horrendous. I truly hope they meet someone worse than them in their own lives so they can see how frustrating it is to deal with that level of incompetence.Look, I know the venue probably offers a great rate, but you get what you pay for. You are definitely getting a Dollar Tree experience at Marina Village. My advice: keep looking. Do not give your money to a place where you are not appreciated or even acknowledged. It's just ridiculous. I don't even have the words to fully express my frustration with this venue and the two trolls at the front Also in the rooms : Old smelling musty rooms Dirty stained and torn "provided" chairs Several of the attendance to include myself left with FLEA BITES ! Carpet is old and musty and dirty in the rooms that were not previously "Ranch Events" spaces . They upgraded the spaces prior to not resigning the lease apparently . But you will be paying 3X the price for those rooms. Good luck if you want to risk it
