Beautiful Yurt Stay with Great Location Our family spent a week in Big Sur staying in cabins, but there was virtually no cell phone reception, which made it impossible for me to work. Since I had to work three days of the week, we chose to stay at Marina Dunes RV Park in a yurt -- and it was even nicer than expected! The yurt was very clean and comfortable, and the bed was great -- we slept so well. Staff were friendly, check-in was easy, and the bathrooms (a short walk away) were cleaned daily and well-maintained. Even though it's close to the Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1), it was surprisingly quiet. The location is perfect for exploring Monterey, Carmel, and Big Sur. There's a beautiful trail over the dunes that takes you right to the ocean, and just down the street is a state beach entrance and parking lot -- we even rode our bikes there! ‍ The drive from here to Big Sur is absolutely breathtaking and so worth it. Cell reception was excellent for T-Mobile (four bars most of the time), and if you need full 5G, just head up the street to Walmart. We loved it so much we booked another two-week stay later this year, and this time we'll be bringing our RV. Highly recommend! read more

Our stay at Marina Dunes RV Park in early January 2026 was well worth it. The park is extremely clean, well maintained - all the amenities work. The sites are level with privacy fence. They have fire rings and I enjoyed sitting by the fire without staring at the next RV sewer pipes. The staff is courteous and friendly. Mike, the manager, responded and helped us out on his day off. The park is just a ston throw away from Marina State Beach. One can walk to Walmart, other shopping centers and gas stations. This RV park ranks on my list as one of the best if not the very best. read more

We had a great time! The resort was clean and the amenities were so nice! We visited here our first time out with our new trailer and the park did not disappoint. The resort was clean and well maintained! The hookups were easy and functional. It had an outdoor play yard, and an indoor play room for kids with complimentary warm drinks. The bathrooms and showers were nice and clean! I'm always so weary given our potty training toddler wants to touch absolutely everything! But things were clean! The little store was cute and the staff was friendly. The park was able to accommodate huge coaches to small trailers and we found there to be a good mix. It's a little close to the freeway which you can hear but that made it quick to snag something from a larger store or visit Monterey for the day. It's a short drive or quick walk to the beach and only 12-15 minutes from downtown Monterey. We had a blast and will be back. read more

We stayed here in February and had a solid experience. Our fifth wheel is 43 feet and space number 38 fit our rig and dually well. The space had privacy hedges and fencing which was really nice. The campground has a great windbreak with all of the trees so even during a storm it was pretty peaceful until you left the property. It was raining so we didn't get to check out many of the amenities but overall it was a good stay and we will be back. read more

We've been camping here for years, and it's always been our go to spot for spring and summer getaways. The beach is just a short walk from our RV campsite, which is a huge plus. The RV park is consistently clean, and the customer service has always been great. While you can hear some noise from the freeway, it's barely noticeable with the ocean so close by. The location is incredibly convenient, especially being near Monterey Bay which is the main reason we keep coming back. As members of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, we love that we can camp here and easily drive to the Aquarium. Recently stayed for 3 nights and felt like it wasn't worth the price. Paid $140/night for a somewhat small space. And right next to the freeway. The spot we stayed at was impossible to back in coming in from the entrance. We had to exit, made a u-turn and came in through the exit in order to back into our spot. All spots in front of us were occupied and felt crammed with all the cars and trucks parked up next to the trailers and such. Check the bathrooms on site, it was clean and well kept, but we never use them. Kids got to ride around on their bikes and have fun playing in front of the site since the back of us were the little houses (Yurts). The distance to the beach seemed to be quite a walk so we opted to riding through the streets to get to the there. The location of the campsite to the cannery row, aquarium, and other attractions were not too far. A good 15-20 mins drive. read more

We stayed over the Labor Day west and it was wonderful!! They have washer and dryer's, showers and bathroom for people that need that extra space. They have yurts to rent and it looks like tiny homes you can rent. You can walk to the beach from this park it is a trail that states that it is 1/3 mile but it doesn't seem like it, and it is beautiful. The tiny homes are huge that are two story. I am just amazed at how much space this place has. You have a fire pit for making s'mores or just kicking it for the evening outside with your loved ones. You have your own cooking bbq stand at your sight also. Just make sure that you tell them that your rig is longer than it is or you will get squeezed into a spot. We made the mistake of telling them we were 35 feet and we have a hitch in the back for our tow car and we were out on the road. It was a tight fit! They said we were in a forty foot-space but they count from the non use their fence to the road! It was stupid because you can't use that space! Next time I will tell them I am forty feet long!!minimum!! read more

RV sites are tight and small for larger RV's with tow vehicles. Makes it so you can't use your space outside. The location is convenient to nearby Monterey. Walking distance to beach across the street and to the Sanctuary and to Salt Wood restaurant. Dog airing yard was closed during our stay which was inconvenient because we have 2 dogs. Club house, laundry and fitness room very clean and nice. Didn't use the public restrooms or showers, so unknown on condition or cleanliness. We most likely would not stay there again just because small spaces, loud highway noise and expensive for what you get. read more

Ok here we go ! This past weekend was awesome folks. Marina Dunes RV Park is so cool to stay and enjoy the coastline. The staff their well let's just say their only mission is to make you stay as enjoyable as possible. Christy, Mika , Eric and there's a fourth but I didn't get their name this team is perfect for this location. There are Yurts, RV hookups , and two I'll say cabins but they are Tiny Homes 2 ea. on this property that's where we stayed fully self contained. Facility had Rec Room , Bathrooms w/ Showers , volleyball court , playground area , small park common area w/ barbecue pits , and registration office has a small store setup just in case you forgot something. This place is a must try. New management so they are getting things up to par but with the team that are there this is going to be the spot to stay. Go give them a visit and say hello. read more

Had a wonderful first stay and am planning future stays! (Note: this review speaks to the cabin and yurt lodging. We did go with extended family who use the RV spots and they return every year so they obviously love it too) I love that they have an option for online check in that they email to you a few days before. When we arrived, the office was closed for lunch so our packet was left on an outside board and organized by last name. The staff was amazing and friendly the whole time. Mica was awesome, as well as the office manager. My family had a cabin that had a tiny bedroom with a queen sized bed and TV. There was also a loft area with a queen sized bed with a small adjacent loft area with games and an outside balcony. It had a bathroom, and a kitchen with a microwave, stove and oven, fridge and a Keurig. There are also glass dishes and some cooking utensils provided. Couches and a tv are in the common area. Super small cabin but very comfortable with amazingly comfortable bedding The yurts are brand new with a queen sized bed, two night stands, lamps and a fan/heater. They have roll up windows. A fire pit, three chairs and a picnic table are included in each site. Again, the bedding was very comfortable. The shared bathrooms for the RV spots and yurts are very well maintained and modern. There are three showers and three bathroom stalls. There is a short walk to the beach. I didn't think it was bad, but I can see how it would be challenging depending on different ages and fitness levels, especially in the soft sand. Also, the resort is located right on HWY 1. So there is road noise. A lot. It is what it is. We honestly just thought of it as white noise. We could hear it in the cabin a little, but it's barely noticeable at night with all the windows closed. My sister said she honestly didn't notice too much in the yurt. Overall we loved it and are planning to return. read more

We recently spent two months at the Marina Dunes RV resort in Marina, California. The friendly and courteous staff and campgrounds are terrific. The facilities are well maintained, clean and well managed. Let's start with Mike the facilities manager. It seems like he works 24/7. Whether it was a Sunday morning at 6:30 AM driving through the campground ensuring everything was in order, or 7:30 PM on another patrol, Mike seems to be ever present. He's always willing to interact with campers to make their experience more enjoyable. Christy, the Assistant Manager, is another great staff member. Greeting campers with a warm welcome and always willing to assist campers. We inquired on things to do and places to see while in the area and she shared some of her great experiences. I referred to her as "the Monterey Peninsula Concierge, Christy extraordinaire." We really enjoyed visiting the places and restaurants she suggested. Corey, the friendly Thousand Trails Membership Specialist, is another staff member that is always available and willing to help. He provides great support for Thousand Trails and the RV resort, is very knowledgeable and thoroughly explains member options. You can always reach him on his is cell phone if you have any questions on the Thousand Trails membership program. A larger office would be a great addition for this hardworking individual to interact with campers. Eric, maintenance department professional, is another valued employee. Always busy taking care of the campground. Often underrated, the maintenance department is an integral part of a great campground. Eric does an excellent job in keeping everything in working order and makes repairs quickly. Only one suggestion from myself and other campers offered to Mike is the addition of a treadmill to the fitness center. With the current stair climber, row machine, weights and weight bench, with a little rearranging of equipment in the relatively small center, it is definitely possible. The addition of a treadmill would provide campers with a must needed option to stay fit. Hope to see this addition on our visit next year. Anna and Jeremy are two other friendly staff members providing a warm welcome to campers. Always willing to help and keep the facilities and camp ground clean and fresh. Marina Dunes RV resort is a well-run campground with a great friendly staff and a clean, well maintained facility. read more

This place is great and I love how everything is thoughtfully curated to give you and your neighbors privacy. The beach access is within walking distance as well as a restaurant called Salt Wood Kitchen and Oysterette. The food and drinks were good, but the service was slow. The r.v. resort was clean, we had full-hookup and the property was well maintained. I will say that the freeway is very close and if road noise bothers you, I would not recommend staying here. Unsafe and uncomfortable! No security at night (no one there, and entrance isn't closed or locked). After fighting traffic, we got there at 7PM with our tent. No one was there to greet us, even though they knew we were coming. We found the only bare spot available, beside a pile of trash and building materials, which smelled. The ground was rocky, resulting in a deflated sleep mat. I got up at 4AM to walk off the pain, despite being exhausted. While walking, I touched every RV there (if I was an ax murderer I could have done a lot more to no avail)! When an employee finally came in, the first thing they asked me was if I was "ready to pay"! As you can imagine, I yelled at them! Zero stars! read more

Stayed here for two nights. There are not many RV parks in the Monterey area, so it is hard to be too critical; you get what you get. The location is a double-edged sword. It is a short walk through the sand dunes to get to a beautiful beach. It is also very quick drive to Monterey and Pacific Grove. But it is located almost on top of Hwy 1. A wooden fence wall was all that separated us from crazy loud traffic noise (see photo). It was $85 per night, so not inexpensive. There was trash in our fire ring when we arrived; but we let the office staff know and very quickly someone came to clean it up. Overall, we hated the location because of the freeway noise more than we loved the location because of the proximity to the beach. So we probably would not stay here again. read more

The camp ground is easy to access and is just off the freeway. The spaces are a bit tight to get in especially if the site directly across from you is already occupied. I was in site 16. The sites are tight and I would not have been able to use my slide if I was not with the site right next to us. I am in a 30' and was backed all the way to the end of the space and I just fit but had to take my bike rack down. Bathrooms and showers were cleaned daily but like any other park the cleanliness is dependent on people being respectful to the others using the facilities. You are right off of the freeway so expect noise especially if you are in the back circle area where sites 14-23 are. It is constant and noticeable, like hair dryer on all day noticeable, but that issue is isolated to those locations and it does quiet down when traffic dies down at about 10-11 PM. We had a buddy staying on the other end of the park in the 50 series sites and noise was not an issue there. The park also extends to the parking lot for the Best Western that contributes to the noise, but nothing that the traffic noise did not drown out. The site I was at has a termite infestation problem, I experienced this two nights in a row. Swarms of ground termites would start coming out of the just as the sun was going down. I was concerned as some landed on the top of my RV and I also found some on the inside the next day. The termites were also coming out of the trees lining the site as some of them had dead limbs that were not managed or manicured very well. I would not use this site again based on that. If you are going to the beach expect to walk the length of over 6 football fields each way with slight hills through soft sand so its a bit of a workout. At the end of the walk you will have to contend with a hill that is about 60 feet from top to bottom and sloped. This is a play in the sand type of beach unless you are a very very strong swimmer and used to swimming in rough ocean conditions. The staff was excellent and friendly, Jill who checked us in was helpful and that is the only reason I did not give this a 1 star. Maybe if I was in a different site that was more spacious and did not encounter the termite issue I could have given this a better rating but based on my stay in site 16 this gets a 2. read more

This was our first time staying here, and it will be our last. This is now a Thousand Trails resort. We are not members and paid the retail price. They do not let you choose your site. And it's not even "choose your own when you arrive" like many other TT resorts. Instead, they assign you a spot the day before you arrive. They're supposed to send an email with your assignment, map, etc., but ours never came. I called the morning of and a very disinterested sounding woman made a weird excuse about the lack of email, and told me I was in site 70. I ended up having to call again to find our site (as they tell you to just go to your site after checking in online), since it wasn't on the maps I could find online. Turns out we were in the newly built section, in what seemed like one of the worst possible spots there. Our spot was tucked in a corner, which was awkward to back in to. We were right next to Hwy 1 which had constant, loud traffic. Even in the middle of the night. There were no barriers, like trees, a fence, etc. so it was just wide open to the highway and noise. Behind us was a large storage container, with a bunch of trash and empty Modelo bottles piled up between it and our site. And next to that was the parking lot to the Best Western. No fence or other barrier between the parking lot and the campsites. Just completely wide open, making it feel like you're camping in the Best Western parking lot. We felt very nervous about leaving anything out, because it would be incredibly easy for someone to loot your site. The site itself was not even level, despite being new. There were only two small trash bins and a recycling bin (like the round, plastic-lidded type -- not a dumpster) in this section of the campground for ALL of the campers there. So the bins were frequently overflowing. And despite cable TV being advertised, it did not work in the new section (confirmed by the guy next to us). The only way to access the main campground (and the amenities provided there) was to go up to the street and walk along the sidewalk to the main entrance of the campground. There was a fence separating the main campground from this new section, making it feel like a completely different place. It felt more like it was an RV lot that belonged to the Best Western. Plus, my husband and daughter rode their bikes up to the main campground to check it out, and saw people doing drugs in a car parked along the road. Lovely. But since you can't pick your site, you're paying the exact same rate no matter which part you get stuck in. And you have zero control in where you end up. So if you like to spend $120 a night (plus another $30 in "fees" for the weekend) to potentially get stuck next to a motel parking lot and a busy/loud highway, and have awkward access to the resort amenities, then maybe this place is for you. The ONLY redeeming quality of this place is that the Marina Dunes beach was walking distance away. But since there was ample parking along that street, I'd rather just take a day trip down there to enjoy the beach, and skip this rip-off of a campground entirely. read more

I can see that this park has mixed responses and if you read through I think you will see from a reasonable person who hates to write negative reviews a list of what is going on. 1. Thousand Trails just bought this RV Park and that shows. Less of a family owned feel and due to Covid issues they are very short staffed. No one met us at the check-in location just our name on a board with our site number and basic info. 2. The original park is all that shows on the website map, but they have a whole new section that has some nice amenities, but as others have said is open to the freeway (lots of freeway noise) and feels more like a parking lot than an RV park. 3. You have no choice on site location and so we were expecting something up among the cypress trees and near the amenities of the store, but we got the parking lot feeling spot down below. Twice we tried to connect with someone up at the office/store but never anyone there. 4. The new bathrooms were nice, but never cleaned over the 4 days we were there and the handle for the handicap shower was broken so my handicapped daughter could not use the wand and sit in the seat, but had to use the regular shower head. This is again probably due to having rouble getting more employees post-Covid, but come on you could hire a service to come by and clean or something! 5. The new sites had pavers, fire pits and picnic tables but the fire pits were in awkward places on some and not all of the sites were level. Ours was. 6. The new section had nice landscaping but it is all immature plants and will look nice when they grow in, but for now, like I said it just feels like a parking lot. 7. In the new section almost half of the driveway lights were malfunctioning. These were 4' high lights to see by and were nice since they would not be an issue for sleeping but made it easier to walk around. However because they were not working I walked by my car at night and the car stop was in the dark and I had a pretty bad fall. I am trying to communicate with the owners or Thousand Trails about this fall. Not trying to get money out of them just trying to get them to fix this so it does not happen to anyone else. read more

They get one star because Yelp won't let me go lower, and in fairness, the bathroom/shower facilities were amazing... ...but, the aggression shown to me by the employees there made me so uneasy I chose to drive home to the bay area rather than spend the night there. I just made day-trips out of the week and used the rig as a home base during the day. I've never felt less like a guest anywhere I've stayed. A guy whom I can only assume is the manager/owner came after me pretty hard after driving in through the exit. I was going extremely slow and was cautious as it is a campground. I chose to come in through the exit to allow the guy blocking the entry plenty of stress free time to unload his tow vehicle and not worry about the line of cars waiting to come in. If the guy had explained to me nicely that he'd prefer we not do that, but appreciated what we were trying to do (like a civilized person) it would have been fine. But yelling at me in front of the whole campground including my friends was beyond insulting and embarrassing. Just trying to have a good week on vacation, but that was completely subverted by this guy. Just to add to this there was a dead crow in my site and hwy 1 noise was completely unbearable. Lucked out ... they had a last minute cancellation so we booked and headed over for quick weekend get a way in the Travel Trailer. Pulled in at 3 pm, grabbed our map and ticket from the board and headed to space #5. We are still newbies at backing in, so thankfully our across the street neighbor wasn't already there. LOL! We really had no trouble navigating the spot and were backed in and set up in less than an hour. Like I said, still newbies. Tall trees gave a nice canopy but did not impact our trailers height and we had plenty of space to park the truck after unhooking. Had the grounds guy deliver 3 bundles of wood and we were set. Heavy marine layer and smoke from all the fires def made the air moist and visibility was low but the wood was nice and dry and created a toasty fire. We didn't use the bathroom facilities, but they looked nice. Didn't even step foot in the office/store and had no interaction with any staff other than the guy delivering our wood. He was BTW very nice. There is noise coming from the 1 but honestly it didn't bother us and once we settled in for the night, I didn't hear a thing. All neighbors were quiet. The Beach is like a 15 minute walk out the back exit. The layout of the camp is good with plenty of space and I could see why people like the back spaces, they are wider than what we stayed at. Monterey is a 20 min drive. Parked at the beginning of Old Fisherman's Wharf and walked all the way down to the Aquarium and back. In all fairness, we came here after 3 days on a friend's ranch in Petaluma, so we were used to quiet, privacy and beauty. So this place was a shock to our senses! The weather is always overcast, the 1 highway noise is constant, and the sites are packed together. It's a bare bones place. The ocean is on the other side of the dunes, not in easy walking distance. However, the staff was very friendly, and the other campers kept to themselves. The WiFi service was pretty strong. Once we decided to rent a car, we toured all the beautiful sights and towns in the area. I can't imagine we'll ever come back to this RV park. No hard feelings, it just wasn't our cup of tea. read more

This place is incredible. My wife and I spend a good amount of time in our Airstream and we have been overwhelmingly happy with the staff, facilities and location of the Marina Dunes RV Resort. Why such a low rating you ask? Let's start with all the great things. Great location easy access from the highway Easy Access to the beach walk or a 2 minute drive and Bam beach! The shower restrooms were recently remodeled and look great! The restrooms, laundromat area is kept very clean. Their is a mini store on site as well as a clubhouse. The sites are very level! A big plus. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful! Now for the not so great things. Not so great yes it can be noisy due to highway traffic ... solution a white noise app played through the sound system or a sound machine will reduce much. Not so great the office area store closes really early... but Walmart is less than 5 minutes away. The really big not so great and call me a snob or whatever but full time living is allowed here and they have several. It still feels safe though it's obvious when pulling in though where cars are sitting unmoved for months and rigs sitting unmoved for ????! Who knows how long it's unsightly. We still love it here however will be keeping an eye on how many full time people live there and the cleanliness around the sites. Snob signing out. read more

A nice Rv park ,but there is no cable tv and the air tv is spotty . the beach walks a pretty nice and even dog friendly if you stay off the state beach area . the lower area I was located was improved nicely and when it matures may be very nice ,close to the highway traffic , noisy. the best western on the other side of the 6'wall is a parking area for utility trucks with their bucket extended all night ,their setup in the am was between 7:30 and 9:00 ,noisy got my dog upset .and back in the evening just as noisy . for the premium cost I would like a hot tub or pool or both . I had reservations to stay here earlier this summer and due to a family emergency the day before I was to arrive I was not going to be able to make it. I was well aware of thier cancellation policy, and I was outside of the window to cancel. The staff was very understanding and allowed me to reschedule my stay. Five stars for the understanding staff here. The place is very well taken care of, clean, organized, and well staffed for an RV resort of this size. The location is great just 8 miles from Monterey and just slightly further to Carmel. There is a recreation/fitness room, and each site has a barbecue and picnic table on pavers. Most of the sites appear to have adequate shade, and shrubs and trees between the sites for privacy. (They also have a few tent sites) They have rental bikes available and it's about a 7 or 8 miles ride on a stand alone bike path to Monterey. Additionally it's about 1/4 mile walk to Marine Dunes Beach. Having said that the reason I'm not giving five stars is because as some previous reviews have mentioned there is some road noise from highway 1, and the fact that the sites while private are a little on the small side. All right went to Marina dunes for two nights it was actually pretty nice spaces were far apart the only drawback is it's kind of close to the highway and far from the actual Beach but it's not that bad of a spot the only downfall that we had I guess we just happened to be on a two-day part when they were changing management or selling it so the POS was down so other than that it was a pretty good spot I'd go there again but hopefully the prices don't go up since they have new management very clean very well kept if you ask for a spot ask for a spot that's facing the dunes that way your spot to be a little bit bigger showers are clean and well kept stores well stocked but you just couldn't buy anything in two days I was there because the POS was down a little expensive but it's worth the money my wife says it's a heck of a walk to the dunes but if you are in good shape you can make it I wasn't doing it laugh out loud also dump stations propane you can buy very nice campground read more

Very expensive ($96 a night) for TV camping. I could stay at a hotel for this. You are literally right next to the freeway. No sight or sound of the ocean and they lead people to think there are ocean views here. I also read walking distance to the aquarium?!?! 10 miles is walking distance? I get it is Monterey, but this is NO ocean view resort resort by any means. Maybe it is near the hotel, but I was looking for RV camping. This isn't even a peak time. Moving on. read more

Amazing RV place to stay near Monterey bay! Small place but you don't feel it! Every place is separated by a wedge ! Walking distance to Marina state park with amazing beach! That RV Park is under the new ownership and is very clean. Good office service , Jennifer makes you feel welcome from the moment you do reservations - Do it over the phone cuz she can find better place or dates ! Her husband is knowledgeable and maintains the park very good. Downside is closeness to HWY 1 . WiFi is weak but if you are on vacation who need it right? All places have full hook up. The park was quiet, no noises or crazy dogs even though it's dog friendly RV Park and every RV has a dog or two.. will definitely come back and read more
