The surgery requires some 30-90 minutes. I spent the next 2 days in ICU and 19 days afterwards in a Franciscan Medical Facility for treatment. He had spilled bone marrow in my soft tissue, causing heterotopic ossification. Neede treatment for the ossification. I was discharged from the Fransiscan facility with a cardio-vascular problem, leading to a five-year recovery by treatment with medications., which ended mid 2021.

Friedman strode in looking harried and asked "What are you here for today?" with a puss on his face. Before I finished answering, he interrupted with "Look, I can't see you without an ID." I said "I told the receptionist I could go get it. I live about two blocks away." "If you're not happy with the care, you can go somewhere else." So I did. Very strange and unpleasant interaction. My fault for not having an ID, but what an A-hole. Best I can figure, I was labeled suspicious for not having my ID and shown the door. He also wouldn't give me my chart when I left. Sure he once broke both legs jumping off a boat into 4' deep water and getting medical advice from a dude with giant casts on both of his legs was a little suspect, but I digress. Since that doctor I've had a long string of managed care zombies. Every single one has made a snap judgment based on the first symptom or two they heard and hustled me along. I had one doc say "You need to lose some weight" based on my BMI, not bothering to note that I was at the time a bodybuilder with single digit body fat (his advice would be correct nowadays, but again I digress). Dr. Friedman, who I chose totally at random as the nearest doctor who took my insurance, has been an unexpected joy. He's very kind, listens to his patients, doesn't rush you at all and seriously knows his stuff. He has also worked in the area for a very long time and has extensive connections in the local medical community. I've gotten a couple of referrals from him and they both worked out wonderfully. To be fair his office is a little dated-feeling and could use a facelift, but that hasn't affected the quality of care I've received at all. I'd much rather have a great doctor with a 70's-feeling office than a mediocre doctor in a state of the art facility, which seems all too common these days.

He puts you right at ease, despite the fact he may be talking to you about some pretty serious stuff. He clearly cares about his patients, taking time to explain all the steps and possibilities in laymen's terms. He remembered exactly who I was three months after my first visit, another display of taking the time to acknowledge and care for his patients. Other staff is also friendly in a genuine, not-just-a-part-of-their-job kind of way. Only downside: the usual phlabotomist wasn't there my second visit and the nurse who drew my blood was definitely too aggressive and left me with a good bruise.

Dr. B runs the site Menopause Menu, which is as hackneyed as it sounds. For two years, I reported extreme and worsening symptoms and over the course of several appointments, she dismissed each symptom as menopause. No, you hack, it was Stage 3 cancer. She never even sent me to a specialist. Plus, echoing others, she was never, ever on time.

Dr. B was too…read morebusy for me, ordered a lot of unnecessary chest films when I had a sore throat, and waited several days to answer my urgent question on My Chart when I had been diagnosed with colon cancer. At the time she was also running a weight loss program and hosting lectures by other Polyclinic physicians. All this when I was paying a monthly fee for "concierge service." I cannot recommend this physician if she is still this busy with non-primary patient care activities.

Please save yourself some grief and have your surgery done elsewhere…read more Doctor Brakstad made a careless mistake on my surgery and caused me to be in the hospital for 2 months instead of a week for an ileostomy. When I was released he promised me I'd be put back together in 6-8 weeks. So at the 8 week mark, I called him and now he wants me to get a colonoscopy before I get put back together. So I had the colonoscopy April 1st and I call doctor Brakstad's office every week to try to schedule my final surgery and they say he's not here and that they'll take a message and get back to me. Well it's been 3 weeks and they haven't gotten back to me. Now I have to go through the hassle of finding somewhere else to put my intestines back together. I'm lucky I have such an understanding girlfriend.

The horrible performance of his staff drove me to find someone else to perform my surgery. When making appointment, I told the person I spoke with they would need to get hold of archived records from my earlier breast cancer treatment. She said, no problem, they would arrange that. Arrived for first meeting/consultation with Dr. Brakstad - no records were on hand. Left that meeting (on a Friday) having been told that on Monday I would hear from the plastic surgeon he recommends, and that we would move forward with scheduling surgery for the following week. By Wednesday morning, having heard nothing, I call the plastic surgeon's office to see if I can move things along. They have never heard of me, and tell me next week is now booked up. She'll check with Brakstad's office and get back to me. By end of that day, still have heard nothing. From anyone. I guess it's time to go back to the drawing board and find someone else to remove the cancerous tumor from my breast. I sure do hope the two weeks I've wasted on this disorganized operation are not the window of time when cancer cells will have a chance to migrate to other parts of my body.

Dr. Ochi has been my nephrologist for over 10 years! I have to say he is one of my best doctors!…read more He is a doctor who truly cares about his patients! He takes the time to listen to what you have to say and really puts into thought. When there is something wrong he explains everything in detail so you can understand everything he is talking about! Dr. Ochi , is a great nephrologist who truly knows his stuff! I have a few times that when something was wrong about my kidneys or protein spillage, he was on top of it, no matter what day or time! I'm mean that too! He had gotten some lab work sent to him in the evening, and he immediately called me about the problem. He didn't Waite for the next business day,he took it upon himself to call right then , no matter the time, which it was past his working hours. I really appreciate his caring and concern for his patients! His very patient with his patients and shows that he really wants help you feel better! My husband and I am so glad that we have Dr. Rex Ochi for our nephrologist! I would never trade him for another nephrologist! I have seen quite a few nephrologist in my 33 years of having kidney disease and I absolutely love Dr. Ochi. If your looking for someone who truly cares and takes the time for you, and listens to your concerns, I highly, highly recommend Dr. Rex Ochi in Seattle, WA You will not regret it!

My husband and I found Dr Raisis to be very friendly, respectful and great bedside manner. I am very, very picky about who my doctors are, and I immediately felt very comfortable with Dr Raisis. In the recovery room I heard staff talking about him, and they had nothing but good things to say about him. In my book, if medical staff speaks highly of a doctor, that is who I'm going too see! Dr Pritchett made a good choice!! Two wonderful doctors, and this morning, I'm sore but no real pain!! I was told to expect lots of pain post op...doesn't seem to be happening! And I credited those two doctors and the great staff at Swedish Ortho Insitiute!!

I don't live in Seattle anymore so this review is rather overdue, but I am currently reviewing my…read morerecords from Dr. Raisis and his colleague Dr. Steege, which reminded me I wanted to review them here. Dr. Raisis in particular was completely disinterested in my case; he was never receptive to anecdotes that would help explain my symptoms (in fact, he outright said he had never seen my particular issue in his career, when in fact it is a fairly common issue and relatively easy to see on diagnostic images, according to information I've gathered and surgeons I've met in the meantime). For a few years I defended him, saying that while his bedside manner was terrible, he was a good "mechanic." That changed when I was diagnosed and treated for a rare infection that Dr. Raisis had neglected to warn me was a possibility of the last surgery he had done on me. In fact, Dr. Steege had seen me while I was trying to get a diagnosis, and he correctly guessed what was wrong but dismissed me saying that couldn't be the case. By the time my infection was diagnosed, there was an imminent threat of kidney failure (yes, stemming from a neuro issue!). I would not recommend Dr. Raisis or his colleague Dr. Steege. Terrible customer service, and negligent doctors with little interest in cases they do not find compelling.
