We arrived w/ no clear sense of where to go or begin. There were tented areas, but then little shacks w/ awnings, pockets of people standing in a field, others across the street. Do I pay for this outside? Do I go inside? Are there tickets? The market (which had really nice things) was impossible to shop. Some things were outside, other things inside, w/ a line of people waiting to pay starting at the tented outside register area, backed up, weaving all the way thru the market isles to the front door. You had to squeeze between the line of people waiting to pay & the shelves of food to shop, making it hard to look at anything, much less grab anything. I know this sounds like a good problem to have, but not when chaos is driving the experience more than demand. Exhausted from wondering the outside trying to figure out what all there was to do & where to go, then braving the market, I decided to skip apple picking which was the main reason I was there! That process appeared even less clear, so no regrets. I do love the things purchased at the market, including apple cider donuts, frozen pastas, & Reading Soda Works bottles- just think I'll return to shop on a day when nothing is going on.

So far it's been a fantastic experience. Since this review is technically of the market, I will say that the farm market, which I like to visit on CSA days, is fantastic. Along with other fresh fruits and veggies that may not be included in that week's CSA share, you can buy lots of local goodies. So far I've had some of the best strawberry jam, sweet mustard, and cookies in my LIFE from this farm market. I found the Stratton's price for the season to be VERY affordable compared to other local CSAs ($375), and we get a LOT of fresh veggies each week (and sometimes other things too, like flowers, and I heard that in the future they may also include prepared mustards, jams, etc.) The amount you get is good for 2-3 people, I'd say. The fiance and I are a bit overwhelmed at the moment just because we're not used to having so much, but I think when we get into a groove it will be the perfect amount. Sometimes the produce you leave with smells so good (especially the onions and basil) you want to go home and cook immediately! CSA members also have the option of buying fresh chicken throughout the season, and we just cooked our first one last night. Oh goodness, was it tasty. I don't normally like "chicken that tastes like chicken" (i.e., I usually need to marinate my chicken heavily) but we just roasted this one very simply and it was delicious. The farm is conveniently located fairly close to West Chester and definitely worth a trip.

The farm market itself isn't extremely large but had a decent stock of fresh veggies, baked goods. & yarn -- I expected a bit more. I tried the apple cider -- $1.49 for a pint -- it was nice & refreshing for a breezy October day. The corn maze is pretty neat. They have it set up as the solar system so you have to find the planet posts within the maze. They give you a map which details the posts, emergency exits, fire extinguishers, & emergency phone # if necessary. At each planet post, you have trivia questions to answer. It's a cute afternoon activity to do but most definitely more interesting to do with children or as a family. They also have hidden golf balls & tennis balls throughout the maze that you can redeem for a prize -- unfortunately I wasn't able to find one =( The apple slingshot was the best part! You get a bag of old apples & then you sling them towards the target. They also have some other activities for the kiddies.

Love their small hayride wagon, even though we didn't take the ride at dusk. Open every day seven days a week 10 to 6 and they seem to have some pretty nice produce. Tomatoes? Cash only business with very friendly folks. Great selection of vegetables and fruit. All the veggies are grown there but the fruit is from another grower. I love the corn here it's sweet, delicious, huge and priced right! They also bake zucchini bread, apple pies, cookies and cakes. A great selection of jams and preserves are also offered. Parking is not an issue since they have enough spaces for a few cars. If you're ever in the area I would recommend stopping by. The simplistic charm of the place coupled with fresh organically grown produce is a sure winner!

Went to Dalton Farms last Saturday which turned out to be the last weekend that the farm was open…read morefor tulip pick your own. About a 50 minute drive from Philly and easy parking in a big field with folks directing you where to go. Definitely dusty so dress accordingly (and be prepared to take a shower after you get home). We arrived about 1pm and there was a steady stream of folks coming and going. Check-in process was very straightforward (showed QR code from previously purchased ticket). Highly recommend getting your tickets ahead of time online for a timed (but not strict at all) ticket. We were not interested in the boats, the tractor (dusty!) rides, we were just focused on the tulips. $1 per tulip if you pick more than 10 $2 per tulip if you pick less than 10 There were 4-5 different large sections that had row up on row of different varieties and colors of tulips. Stations with plastic containers to assist you with holding the tulips you've picked, then tables with rolls of brown paper to wrap your tulips and rubber band the bouquets. Checkout was super fast and easy and friendly, there are food trucks in a couple different spots (we got fruit smoothies which were excellent). All in all I had a really great time and look forward to returning for the sunflowers and zinnias!

Now they hire a few high schoolers a little wage to check people in, a few independent contractors run ramshackle concession trucks (it being Easter weekend, they didn't sell beer. Thank Goodness because on top of everything else below, I didn't want to see inebriated funsters face down in the tulips, which was the original title of the Tiny Tim Tulip tune, I'm sure) So they have little to now over head and droves of families who'd go to anything to get out of the house and let the enervated kinder scamper around fill up the grass fields parking lot) What shocked me was the dismal display of mediocre tulips and the overall unpleasant experience. And spoiler: this ain't Holland. 1) 4 hour round trip not worth War Gas. 2) It's only for kids and families really. Check out the durrrr Tulip Down, besotted stumbling sickly chickens and questionable slide) 3) Dirty. 4) Dirt all over - nothing paved. Why they don't have people sign releases is beyond me. It's a trip and fall inclined tip toe paradise. 5) Paddle boats not in use. Spring and no boats. Really? 6) (cover your eyes parents - spoiler) Infested with kids. 7) Awful music. Like party music at a sleepaway camp in a slasher movie. 8) If pointlessly walking around in soft soil with a focus on not wrenching your ankle is your thing, cummere and fork over $20 and enjoy. 9) Punishing, unrelenting sun. All the outdoor fun of being on a chaingang without the chains and something to do like knocking rocks. 10) Ratty tulip flowers were unimpressive - I'm sure I'd be more impressed if I lived life at ankle level and strapped on a Transmission Electron Microscope. 11) Dig a sense of sprawling nothingness? Welcome. Nothing as far as the eye can see except sickly tulips and dirt. 12) The bad arty touches are for children and those that live at knee level. Tulip Town is more like Bridgetroll Village. 23) I came here for peace and ended up trudging around the fields like a farmer wondering where I dropped that damn-gum pouch of chew! Myrtle! Is that a boll weevel?!? Total disappointment. My opinion. If you go here and find none of this true, I'll buy you glasses.
