The shop features farm grown, locally grown and just enough fresh and packaged additions to cover your weekly supplies. Apples and peaches are the volume crops but there are also seasonal harvests of pears, blackberries, corn, tomatoes and a variety of vegetables. In winter, there are carefully selected choices of various citrus options mostly from Florida. The Barnards have played a prominent role in multi century Quaker history and with this very special farm continue to do so. Among the particular treats are a variety of cut flowers, including a nice long season of snapdragons grown in the beautifully maintained turn of the twentieth century greenhouses. Everything about Barnard's is authentic and pleasing, including farmer Lewis Barnard. Go. It won't be your last time. It's cash preferred (fees for credit card); there is plenty of parking.

It is the very good quality and taste of berries I enjoyed as well as personal touch by the owner of the farm. They still have some strawberry left, it is sweet and very fragrant, it is almost like in a famouse Swedish movie " Strawberry Patch", also in the movie is a wild strawberry. We enjoyed our red and black raspberries which are abundant and delicious this year. If you are a bluberry fan, you should come next week for the delicious treat! Bluberry is almost ready; sweat and sour, big and appetizing. The rain did not spoil our experience and a beautiful rainbow was like a prize we received from God. Come to Lititz to enjoy the farm and plenty of wonderful berries. I also collected some berry leaves to make my teas.

Attended Fall Festival- simply too chaotic for my taste. They need a better plan! A map or list of…read moreactivities; or appointed people to push you in the right direction. We arrived w/ no clear sense of where to go or begin. There were tented areas, but then little shacks w/ awnings, pockets of people standing in a field, others across the street. Do I pay for this outside? Do I go inside? Are there tickets? The market (which had really nice things) was impossible to shop. Some things were outside, other things inside, w/ a line of people waiting to pay starting at the tented outside register area, backed up, weaving all the way thru the market isles to the front door. You had to squeeze between the line of people waiting to pay & the shelves of food to shop, making it hard to look at anything, much less grab anything. I know this sounds like a good problem to have, but not when chaos is driving the experience more than demand. Exhausted from wondering the outside trying to figure out what all there was to do & where to go, then braving the market, I decided to skip apple picking which was the main reason I was there! That process appeared even less clear, so no regrets. I do love the things purchased at the market, including apple cider donuts, frozen pastas, & Reading Soda Works bottles- just think I'll return to shop on a day when nothing is going on.

The veritable cherry on top of their cornucopia of fruits, vegetables, jarred foods, baked goodies, pretzels, popcorn, candies, and frozen foods is their Whoopie Pie Festival, which we attended today. The Festival runs on Feb. 26-28 & March 5-7 between 9am - 4pm. Essentially, you can create Your Own Whoopie Pie for $4 each, 4 or more at $3.50 each, and 12 or more $3 each. Here's how it works - make your customized selections of one of 12 cookies, one of 11 frostings, and one of 7 toppings, and Brecknock will build your pie. I went full Elvis mode and selected banana cookies, peanut butter frosting, and chocolate chip toppings around the circumference. We had a great time at Brecknock -making our Whoopie pies, playing a whoopie pie trivia game, and picking up a few odds and ends for us and friends. PRO TIP Hats off to Brecknock for their generosity and hospitality. They had free samples everywhere- whoopie pie wedges, pretzels, popcorn, and all sorts of goodies. It worked on us, because after sampling some honey mustard pretzels, we couldn't grab a bag fast enough.

When we decided to join a CSA, we chose this one because of its convenient location and pick-up…read moretimes. We're sure happy we did! For the past four years we've been enjoying long seasons (mid-May to mid-November) of high quality, fresh vegetables, and trying out many varieties of salad greens, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, squash, cole crops and radishes. The small share is more than enough for two adults. John and Thera are community-minded, always welcoming, sharing their knowledge and inviting members to participate. Somehow they manage to find time send out periodic newsletters to update us on recent improvements on the farm, the impact of the weather on various crops, and about the new baby goats. We're looking forward to the new season!
