Have delt with manage Jackie before. the office is well organized and they have a great customer service plan. you fill an application on line and then chose either a phone call or office visit. I chose a pjone call. you even get to pick the time of the call Jackie goes over your application and on the same date you get an appointment. Met Jackie at No military Trl office , lots of parking, and she had an answer for me on my loan.. no messing arround just a quick approval on my loan. The signing is really cool. all the paper work is on a large tablet in the customer waiting area. the customer area is private . I electronic signature everything. Jackie explains everything while pointing it out on the screen.30 minutes and I have a check. GREAT SYSTEM. This has been a nightmare. I can't even say the customer service is bad because it's non-existent! The people in the branch are awesome, but if you make the mistake of completing your application online like I did - good luck! Their claim that the money will be in your account within 24 business hours of verification documentation being received is LIES!! I applied and was pre-approved on 7/6. I received the request to upload my documents on 7/7, which I did immediately. It is now 7/12 and my application is still "under review"! I've called to follow up and the only option I have is to leave a voice mail. I've left several voice mails! I've sent a few emails! No response! Nothing! The reps at my local office want to help me, but their hands are tied unless the corporate office transfers them the loan, which I can't get anyone to do because they won't respond to my calls or emails. Worst loan experience of my life. Not only do they use predatory lending practices that gouge the down trodden and financially strapped lower and middle class with credit blemishes...they lack empathy and have no true willingness to work with customers when hard times hit. Let me explain. I have had a loan with Mariner Finance (Belair Road Branch in Baltimore) for roughly 4 years. It was a loan that I took out for my fiance because he had some legal trouble. I used my Mustang Convertible as collateral. I made payments on time. He and I split up. The deal I made with him was that he could have the mustang and I would sign the total over to him if he took over the loan payments and paid the balance. Once it was paid off I would sign the title over to him when I had the Lein Release in hand! So he agreed and I added his name to the loan - not as a resposible party (Mariner wouldn't allow that) but as someone who was authorized to make payments and inquire about the payoff balance. Needless to say, he defaulted. He also hid the vehicle so it wouldn't be reposessed. So I got stuck with a judgement. Now I can't blame Mariner Finance for taking those steps. They are a business and need to protect themselves. Ultimately I was responisble for the loan. What happened next is what infuriated me about this company. In Maryland, you are legally only allowed to garnish 30% of someone's wages. So what did Mariner Finance do? They put a lein against my BANK ACCOUNT...BOTH bank accounts. The only money deposited into my Checking account is my payroll. They took my ENTIRE PAYCHECK right from my checking account the day before my rent was due. My bank notified them that they had the full amount and that they were issuing a check. So that should be the end right? I had to suffer through 2 weeks without money...make excuses to may landlord as to why I would be late on my rent for the first time ever....but at least the loan was paid off and I can put it behind me. WRONG!!! Two weeks later (which was yesterday) 30% of my wages were garnished! This is double dipping. I cannot understand for the life of me why we have a law that says they cannot take more then 30% from my pay ... but my bank account isn't protected. More over, knowing that my bank was sending them the funds...they never cancelled the wage garnishment. They literally put a lein on every account I had and also a wage lein. I find this to be a predatory practice. Garnish the wages...if that doesn't work...then put a lein on the bank account. Why was it necessary to do BOTH? Even today - they confirmed the received the check from my bank. They are unwilling to call my payroll manager to cancel the check so he can cut me a check for the amount they took this week unnecessarily, I have to wait until they get the check and then they will cut me a check. Honestly these are the most heartless and unethical people I have ever dealt with. I am considering hiring an attorney! There is no way what they have done to me is legal! read more

So please be careful of their billing practice. They do not send a monthly statement, either by mail or email, charge $2 per online payment unless auto pay is set up. The balance on the the website does not reflect what you will need to pay off during the promotion period, this must be gotten from a call to them, just ensure you get your payoff before the promotion ends. Received a letter after paying off a furniture 0% loan indicating "Insufficient" funds but when I checked my account, check was cashed and funds were transferred from my account. I was only 2 payments in on 0% loan so it made no sense to pay it off but after another previous mistake they made I realized it wasn't worth it. read more

10 days now trying to work with them--no one answers phones--schedule call backs---to sit by the phone for NOTHING--even scheduled call backs are ignored.....I literaly have had to sit and press redial over and over for 20-30 min at a time to get a person to speak too----after FINALLY getting someone on the phone--they say we only have 2 people here today , tell me what I need to send them and that within 2 hours of getting that needed info they will call back---of last 10 days I have sat by a phone for FOUR of those days with no call from them---10 days--and thats just so far...its still an ongoing process....just sad...this is just a very sad company........... read more

I'll never take out a loan w/this place. Earlier this year, I got behind on my payments due to financial reasons, So they put out a judgement for garnishment, But we were able to work out a payment agreement, But when I called and told them I was filing for bankruptcy and stopped making payments, They decided to a hold/garnishment levy on my bank account so that they'll get the amount balance that I owe, Instead of going thru the proper process of going to my place of employment first. I highly recommend for anyone not to deal w/this place because they'll tell you one thing then do another. read more

I took three different times filling out loan information to finally be funded. Got a call from them. Everything is done online. No problem. Was sent incorrect link to there website. This particular financial institution has been an overall nightmare. Recently having a new fence constructed, the option of 0% financing was available. However, given that Mariner was the funds manager, this was a considerable mistake. After less than two months of headaches from unreturned calls, no payment booklet being sent (as stated) and an added late fee on the first month's dues (although no booklet was received by me), my husband, who is in Iraq, phoned the branch manager (directly from a war zone) because Mariner treated my requests for assistance negatively, with a request for the total balance due. After the request for the total balance to determine payoff, one was received (in outdated type written form) with the initial late fee, as well as 15% applied interest. Mariner Finance has been calling my number looking for him. I have called back several times asking them to please remove my phone number. This is to the point that it is now harassment. Do not ever, EVER, finance a car through Mariner Finance. Before I signed the paperwork with them for my refinance the FIRST question I asked was "I want to buy a new car in a year, will I be able to with this refinance or will this make it difficult?" And they told me "oh no you'll be fine!" Here I am, a year later, stuck with a car I HATE because only about half of my payments go to principal, AND all of my EARLY payments with them have not been reported to credit agencies so it does nothing to help my credit at all. So no, I am NOT fine. It is actually impossible for me to get a new car. Oh! And let's not forget all of the things they threw on my contract that cost me unnecessary money that they never mentioned that I could have opted out of. Made the mistake of getting a loan for a our fence through these people. Their system is sporadically down for payments, their automatic payment system takes 48 hours to be removed (so they will still auto withdrawal if you try to cancel an automatic payment 1-2 days in advance), and they will call you every single day if you are a day late. To put it in perspective, I tried to cancel an automatic payment because I set up a new checking account and was closing the one I had previously set up for payments. I cancelled, received a confirmation, and thought that was the end. But obviously things are never that easy: enter Mariner Finance auto pay. They hit the old account, which now I was unable to close because of recent activity, causing an NSF fee at my bank and now accruing a returned payment fee at MF. I called, asking what was going on, confirmed my cancellation, and then called my bank to have the NSF fee returned. The next morning, another ACH retry, another NSF fee, another call to MF. Finally I was able to get the auto payments cancelled. Then I receive another phone call stating I had reached two return payments and now they will only accept cash from me. For their own mistake. Oh, and I get phone calls from them every single day, even when nothing is wrong. I eventually just blocked them. read more

This company, Mariner Finance, has been a total nightmare!! They put a lean on my car in order to give me a loath of $1500.00. I was very good making the payments for about a year and then things got awful. I couldn't pay them for a couple months. They called all the time and I stopped answering. Then they put a judgement on me. When I found out I called them and they set up a payment to get back on track. In September I found out that I have cancer. I have no insurance because I can't afford it. I called and told them about it and they said that I had to make my payments or they will take me to court. Well today I got a letter, that they went through with the garnishment. I am only getting social security and need the money for the treatments. How cruel can they be??
