I went into this tailor by myself (young girl) and had the owner barge into the fitting room as he knocked with zero question of it I was clothed or not (I was not. and received zero apology.) and then used the excuse a customer needed their sweatshirt from the fitting room after he had told me to go into the room and change into the clothing I was having altered. He never asked if I could hand it to him through the door or anything and just came in. I felt disgusted and after he marked the gown, I had decided I would not be giving this man a single penny and told them I was not interested anymore - the woman working there then took the dress and "ironed" off the markings leaving discolored marks. Would not recommend for women or children or anyone getting an expensive wedding/prom dress altered! Side note: I visited another tailor down the road and they did it perfectly and said the markings he had put were very off from how they should be for the style of the dress (supposed to have a ruched texture in the front.) EDIT: he also told me he was ironing it off because i looked like I would basically take advantage of his time in marking and do it myself (i know nothing about clothing and i just wanted my prom dress shortened.) read more

Mario tailored my daughter's prom dress & made it even better than the original. We bought it online. The tulle was not completed at the bottom. It had 5 layers of tulle & fabric & was too long for my daughter. Mario lightened up the dress so it would be more comfortable to wear. Due to COVID - the big prom (along with so many events) have been canceled. A few families put together a small safe event for our kids. My daughter was so happy to have a beautiful dress to wear. The owner of Mario Tailoring sold me a Bertolini suit by leading me to believe it was made of a pure blend of wool and silk. When I brought it home, after he tailored it, I saw the little tag tucked in the inside pocket of the jacket saying "fabric content: wool 30% silk 5% polyester 30% viscose 35%." So I brought it back saying "You led me to believe this was a blend of only wool and silk, but the label says it's also 30% polyester and 35% viscose. I never would have bought a suit made with polyester." He then tried to assure me that the suit was 100% wool and silk, and that only the lining was polyester and viscose. He then flipped through his wholesale catalog showing me other suits which were, like the Bertolini suits, advertised as "wool/silk blends", pointing at a London Fog suit, saying "Would a manufacturer as reputable as London Fog lie about their suits?" This was a lame argument since I was only questioning the Bertolini suit. Nonetheless, he gave me his word, which he insisted was backed up by his expertise, specifically saying that the jacket and pants are 100% wool and silk, and there is no polyester or viscose in them except in the lining. I left the store without being able to return the suit. When I got home I realized that if the owner of Mario Tailoring were telling me the truth, and the label is telling the truth, then it would have to be true that the lining consists of 65% of the material for the whole suit. That can't be true. One of them is obviously telling me a lie. I've since learned that another retailer who sells Bertolini suits directly contradicts the claim by Mario Tailoring. Suit Authority, on Amazon, states specifically that the content listing on the tag (wool 30%, silk 5%, polyester 30%, viscose 35%) "is the content of the jacket and pants NOT LINING." Bottom line: the information that the owner of Mario Tailoring told me, to sell me the suit which I otherwise would not have bought, was false. Either he was deliberately lying or he unwittingly passed on a lie in which case he doesn't know his fabrics. read more

10/10 recommend. I needed a pair of jeans hemmed and tapered - Mario got me in and out the store in 10 minutes and my jeans were ready 4 hours later. I appreciated that he was able to give me an accurate assessment of how long it would take (none of the "it'll take a week" but it's ready after two days or "it'll be ready tomorrow" then it's not ready). This is hands-down the best tailor I have been to. Without an appointment, I walked in with a shirt I needed tailored for a wedding. Not even 10 minutes later, Mario had the shirt pinned in the shape I wanted. He asked a lot of questions about fit/shape to make sure it would come out the way I hoped it would. I picked up the shirt the next day, and it looks like it was made for me (well, I guess it was, haha). The prices are very reasonable. I would have gladly paid twice the cost for such fast turnaround time. Bonus: it's a family owned business. I love this guy! "Buy a suit!"... Although I've never bought a suit from Mario yet, I have had my tailoring done from him a few times! I had a costume suit for Halloween, where the suit fit but the pants were clown pants! He said, "Are you going to wear a jacket?". With the complete re-cut he was going to have to do, he was worried about any imperfection showing... which there were none... and I won 3 costume contests that night! WIN! I enjoyed his work so much, I took my wedding tux into have him do the alterations. Whether it's a $99.00 suit, or a $1000.00 suit... the wear has always depended on your tailor. Does he, or does he not, know how to actually CUT a suit ONTO your body... not just some mannequin. Mario absolutely does! AN ABSOLUTE WORK OF ART!! (please see pictures for more info). I had an oversized bomber jacket that needed to be slimmed down. the jacket itself was hard to work at. Thick, wool fiber, double layered construction, and overall, just NOT meant to be altered. Now this is where Mario comes into place! Mario's prices are very, very reasonable, however, for this one, he had to be blunt with me, it will cost alot. I decided to went for it, and 2 weeks later, BAM! Went to Mario initially because I purchased pants from a larger retailer and they told me it would be 2-3 weeks before I could have my pants hemmed. Mario had them done in a couple of days. Since then I have had multiple dress pants, hemmed jeans with the cuff still attached and fixes to my clothing done. Everything Mario sends back to me is in excellent condition and looks great. This is my first Yelp review because although I love reading reviews, I don't have too many customer service experience so different from what I'm used to that I've been moved to let other people know. I'm no tailor expert, but I've been around the block. I've tried everything from in-store alterations, to dry cleaning repairs, to other independent tailors and Mario's is without question the best I've come across. My first time visiting Mario was in October. I came in on a Thursday to get a vintage vest altered for a weekend event. The vest was custom made so there wasn't room to let it out, but Mario walked me through the various options I had and told me I could pick it up Friday mid afternoon. About 3 hours later on the same day he was done and the vest looked amazing. His prices are more than reasonable (I'm still not sure of the economics of how he stays and in business) and he's just an all around likable guy who you can tell cares about his work. I can't say enough good about this guy. If you're in the Troy area and need a new tailor, Mario is the best I've come across. read more

I want this review to be clear because I love this guy and his work is fantastic, but hate the way he runs his business. Pros: Best tailor I've been to, period. I was initially unsure when he took my measurements and I was having trouble trusting the fit with the pins inserted. Now I just go in there, we don't even need to exchange words and I know my shirts will look the way I want them. Cons: His hours are 10-5 and he wants you there an hour before at the latest. If you're a white collar worker that can make that time slot regularly, send me your employer info and I'll send you back a resume. He's denied me at the door twice a half hour before close when I've driven nearly an hour to get there. I just went there yesterday and he almost didn't let me in 45 minutes before close. Not acceptable. All-in-all: I still go here because he does good work, but I'm not happy about it. 5 stars hands down if he could at least stay open until 6. read more

Very friendly and down to earth staff! I was helped by Mario as soon as I went in the store. I showed him my pair of Selvedge raw denim of which the crotch had started to blow out. He explained to me all of the things he had to do (patch and sew) and I picked it up 2 hours later with no express charge! The patch was inside and the sewing was barely visible. He did a very good job patching in a way that fixed the hole and prevented from any future blowouts. Definitely recommend this place to anyone needing any work done on their clothes and from what I've seen he also sells custom suits. Every guy has that one pair of their favorite jeans and you can definitely trust this guy to take care of any problems. read more

Short story: OUTSTANDING. Amazing work and is very up-to-date on men's fashions. Went out of his way to finish my suit jacket in a few hours! Long story: I came in from out of town (Lansing) to have some major adjustments to my suit jacket. I needed the sleeves lengthened, some material removed from the upper sleeve, and needed material removed from the center of the back of the suit to bring the shoulders back. I also needed my pant legs lengthened. I came in last minute on the afternoon of 12/26 and was hoping he could finish by 12/30, in time for NYE. As soon as I put on the suit, Mario knew exactly what needed to be done to fit the style that I wanted. He was professional, very friendly, and transparent with what he was going to do. With the amount of work needed to be done, I expected the jacket and pants to be ready on 12/30. About 2 hours after I left his shop, Mario called me to tell me it was all ready for me to pick up. Boy was I glad that I decided to stick around the area for a bit before heading back to Lansing. When returning to the store, I tried on the suit and it fit like a glove. He was able to salvage a very ill-fitting suit in almost no time. I couldn't be happier. On top of that, Mario even refused to take the tip I would have loved to give. Mario's 5 star rating is no joke. I wholeheartedly recommend Mario's work and will definitely be back! read more

Perhaps it was a fluke, or just carelessness, but this guy butchered my suit and I actually just had to bring it to another shop and pay another 90 for them to fix his mistakes. My pants were HUGE, he didn't adjust my sleeves of my jacket (they were so wide) I looked like I was wearing an old suit of my fathers. The only saving grace is that he was a nice guy.
