I went here a couple days ago with some others. The waitress was friendly and the place was pretty empty. They gave us some very tasty bread with some of their tomato sauce which was the best part of the meal. I ordered the Stuffed Shells for I believe around $13.99 or so which were fine but there weren't many shells and they tasted oddly a bit undercooked even though it came out pipping hot. The shells had a tiny bit of spinach with it mostly being cheese along with a good amount of alright tomato sauce. In terms of baked pasta, the ziti had a better portion and I would say the remaining pasta dishes (spaghetti with tomato sauce and the penne vodka) had better portions. This used to be our favorite local pizza place. Lately pizza has been soft in the middle almost not even cooked thoroughly. Pizza crust is completely soft in the middle - bleck. It used to be crispy and crunchy and toppings were cooked and crusted. Now pizzas just seem too rushed and mushy. Maybe just go back to that good old brick oven long cook. This is our spot. When I first moved from queens I could not find a pizza place my fiancé and I both enjoyed to save my life. Fast forward to Christmas Eve. I'm Italian, my fiancé is Irish. We were doing Christmas Eve with his family which meant I was missing out on my seven fishes. Not a chance. I placed an order from Mario's. Shrimp scampi, calamari, mussels, ziti. I was in heaven. After, we decided to start ordering pizza from there and wow, it's our spot. We probably order at least once every two weeks. I'm a cheese girl and my fiancé loves pepperoni. Not a problem, they make pizzas in different sizes so we can get two different ones without breaking the bank. Caesar salad your thing? No sweat, they make the best one around. The first time we ordered from Mario's was bc we had a bad experience with Mangiano's. The pizza came out fantastic! It was hot, the crust was perfect, fresh toppings and sauce. Delivery was quick and we were really happy with it. The second time we ordered from there , it was so-so. Not sure if the chef changes from lunch to dinner but our second order was around dinner time. The pizzas were cold, and just didn't taste right. I'm disabled and temporarily living in a hotel and decided to order from Marios Brickoven and Restaurant. Last night I called for delivery and asked for cups and plates spending over $21 and no cups were given with my 2 litter soda. The woman who answered wasn't professional and short tempered either, I let things go.... Tonight, I gave them a second chance and the man (older) who answered was 10x the above of the woman....he refused to add with an orded extra charge of something extra, screamed ''it comes what it comes with!'' I politely asked him to stop screaming and he put me on hold for 2 mins....came back on and asked for the phone number, yes I did huff but while giving it to him, he hung up the phone on me! I couldn't believe it!! So I called BACK, got the same woman I spoke with last night who was more polite, appologized for his behavior and was promptly reminded by me that, ''how can you run a business like this and how do you expect a return customer hanging phones up on cash paying customers because they are hungry?" She seemed to agree and I advised her that I will be telling these truths everywhere I can including on the internet. I actually feel sorry for her. My food was finally delivered just now, I told these truths to the deliverer and said guess what he did? He immediately said, "he hung up the phone on you didn't he?" Enough said here...no way to run a business and I will NEVER spend a dime on that place ever again and I am now on a mission to spread the word starting right this second. A few weeks ago I had a problem with a pick up order. I called and they offered to remake It but I didn't want to go back out so I said I'll get it another time. So I called Wednesday night (yesterday) and the manager/chef that helped me was so kind and accommodating. We ordered penne with chicken parm, and a slice. The food was awesome. You can't go wrong when you order from Mario's. I've tried a lot of different things from this place and have loved every single thing. (We live nearby, so we order from them a lot!) Pizza, garlic knots, chicken parm panini, fries, chicken franchese, fettucine alfredo, penne napoli... all good good good. Just an FYI: I have not had a great salad when I order delivery, however, I get great salads when I dine-in. I don't think it's intentional (the staff there is very nice), but wonder if the salads are wilted when delivered because of the hot dishes being delivered at the same time. I can't speak for the take out or delivery side because I'm not local to NJ, but the dining room side was elegant and affordable. I ordered the Chicken Sorrentino Sub with a side order of veggies . I was pleasantly surprised with bigger portions and higher-quality than I had expected. I tried to finish it all but the dinner was preceded by a basket of freshly baked Bread in the shape of pastry triangles. This was earlier this year....I recall not being very happy with my food or service, guy had a tude for some reason or other...I said I was done with this place then...at that time newly working in the area...almost a year later my co worker order food. I decided to give it another try on a test run. ORDERED A SIMPLE SLICE OF PIZZA....It was delivered and it was like CARDBOARD, I just paid 3.00 bucks for a piece of cardboard pizza??? I know brick oven pizza and this was just a burnt piece of cardboard with toasted cheese...highly disappointed!! Never again! I will post a picture....Also my Boss ordered Pasta Alfredo with chicken...also horrible, she emerged from her office with the gas face very very unhappy with her order as well. The pizza and the sandwiches are very good. Which deserve 5 starts but the salad was a big disappointment. On the menu it said that it came with fresh mozzarella. When we saw the salad it had sliced mozzarella which looked like it was in a singles package. But overall pretty good food. read more

We've ordered pizza/Italian from other places in Morristown and thought we'd give Mario's a try. We had pepperoni and onions 14" pie delivered on Football Sunday. The estimated delivery time was 45-60 mins and the pie arrived 90 mins after we placed the order. It was cold, and would've tasted great if it had been hot, warm even. I get that it's probably one of the busiest nights for pizza delivery but food should be delivered at expected quality. Used to live in Verona and was spoiled by places like Ray's and Star Tavern. I thought all pizza hope was lost until I stumbled upon this place. The pizza here is excellent and automatically belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of Morris County pizza places. The dining room is cozy, has BYOB and is serviced by Lama - one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. George and family are total gems to the neighborhood. It's been a while since I've gone somewhere and was entirely shocked by how a place can be so lackluster. I honestly couldn't think of a good reason to give this place more than one star. I've been here twice now, and the first time I was in there, the workers seemed a bit disorganized and actually dropped one of the pizzas we wanted to order and we ended up needing to change our order, so I thought oh maybe they're having an off day. I came back recently and the service was not as disastrous, but it felt a bit unfriendly. This is generous considering they messed up my order again. I'm also not sure what people are raving about in terms of this being one of the best pizzas they've had. For me personally, I ended up with a cheese pizza that I didn't order aaaaand it's well done but i have mixed feelings about the cheese. I'm not sure that I'd swing by again as I've had better experiences ordering and eating pizzas elsewhere. read more

I had to give them one star tonight because of their delivery guy. He called me saying he was at the door and it literally took me a minute to come down. To my surprise opening my door to my porch HE LET HIMSELF IN. To make matters worse he was smoking a cigarette inside my covered porch. How is this ok ?! I LOVE this restaurant.....the food is absolutely out of this world good and the staff is very friendly and efficient. They are very attentive to their customers. There are two sides of the restaurant, one a casual take out pizza place complete with tables and chairs and the other side is a BYOB dining in, more upscale restaurant. But from my single experience, this place is far better than the other pizza/Italian spots in the Morris Plains area (I think this is actually Morristown, but right on the border). We had a meat lover, topped with ground beef (contains cumin), extra cheese, ham and sausage, thing crust of course. It taste like no others. The price is a little bit high ($18 after tax).
