Came in January which was the best case scenario because the restaurant was very cozy inside, especially when they seat us near the fireplace. The food was great. Grato is I restaurant that I've passed literally hundreds of times on Rt 10 in Morris Plains. I think the only reason I didn't try it before was because I heard some mixed reviews from friends. Well on a Friday night, my wife and I decided to finally try it, and we're so glad we did. The restaurant was outstanding! We started off with glasses of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon and they provide you with complimentary focaccia bread and dipping oil. That was delicious, the oil had a great spice. We then split the Tri Color Salad which was plenty for 2. For entrees, I ordered the Bucatini Carbonara and my wife had Flounder Francaise with bucatini. Wow! The meals were delicious! We even saved room for the warm Apple Torte with vanilla ice cream. A great meal! I can't say enough about the service here. Our server, Julia, was excellent, and the manager, Diego, stopped over multiple times to make sure we were enjoying our meals. He actually recommended to my wife ordering bucatini to go with her flounder. It may have taken us a long time to get to Grato, but we'll be back here soon for sure! read more

Overall, another miss by a Harvest restaurant... Service was off. And slow. Manager was very involved but off. And clearly to pick up the slack from the wait staff. For example, I order a glass of wine upon sitting down. About 10 minutes later, when I realized it still hadn't been brought over despite the few number of tables, I went to get the glass at the bar myself. They were pleasant. For example, the manager offered us a complimentary arancini appetizer when we hadn't been able to decide between that and the meatballs. However, neither was anything to write home about. In the same in, they offered us complimentary sundaes for our birthday (it was the same birthday for the both is us). But it was awkward because my friend had already ordered a bread pudding dessert, which was also bright out... Finally, the food overall wasn't impressive. The chicken parm came with spaghetti that looked more like a thick soup than pasta and sauce. And while the chicken itself was fine, the preparation didn't have a lot of taste. The place is beautiful and clean, looks impressive inside. The service was fantastic. But the food...not good. The mozzarella sticks looked phenomenal when they showed up, but there was no taste or seasoning, not crispy on the outside either...just blandly coated cheese. My last visit to Grato was so excellent. I'm still thinking about it. My sister and I went splits on the chicken parm and the orecchiette with sausage and broccoli. When you share an entree they'll split it between two plates which I love. We each received a perfectly portioned piece of chicken and perfectly portioned plates of spaghetti and orecchiette. The chicken parm was pounded thin and perfectly cooked. My only complaint was that the cheese was a bit skimpy. It's a burrata so this makes sense, but chicken parm is always best cheesy. Luckily we added on lots of fresh parm. Both pasta dishes were just stand out. The pasta is made fresh in house and you can tell. Spaghetti pomodoro is a simple dish but at Grato it's so much more - this might be my most favorite spaghetti ever. The tomato sauce is creamy and buttery and it's just melt in your mouth good. Oh, and honorable mention for the comped bread! No better way to start a meal than with light and fluffy focaccia and a savory olive oil dip. Perfection! There is also a solid cocktail and wine list. The twenty closest spots have only four cars parked while everyone avoids the unnecessary valet. You know what nobody wants after a long meal? Stunning interior and great service! Staff were all super friendly & attentive. Their starter focaccia may have been my favorite part of the meal! The pepperoni cups on their pizza was what made me choose this place for dinner and it did not disappoint. The penne vodka had great flavor and the pasta was cooked well. Finally made a reservation to dine at Grato with friends tonight, after having ate at Roots multiple times before and it's one of our favorites. The decor and ambiance are warm and inviting. The stone walls and drapes give a very natural feel. There's a wood burning fireplace in the restaurant. While I love the smell and it gave a great vibe, my allergies are definitely on overdrive now. Still not a deal breaker though. Service was good, not overbearing. Everything was timed right. However, tap water was refilled into my friend's half empty water glass that was supposed to be Pellegrino. The mistake was remedied quickly. My husband and I's tap water glasses were never refilled though. The meal started with complimentary focaccia and olive oil to dip. Very good. I had the crispy calamari as an appetizer which was perfectly fried, not chewy and honestly better than the one on the menu at Roots. For my meal I had chicken saltimboca (yum) and the crispy Brussels sprouts (Excellent). Other food eaten at the table was chicken Marsala, filet mignon and a mushroom pasta. To start I love the interior! It feels very classy but not overbearing. It's dimly lit and it makes for a great dinner date. We ordered the calamari to start. I loved the amount of flavor and also the crispy batter. I got the spaghetti as my main and fell in love with the sauce! The perfect balance of tart and savory, but also somehow buttery. My only complaint is the noodles were a little bit clumpy? The carbonara was lighter than expected and I loved the texture of the bucatini. Staying at a hotel nearby and found Grato on both the hotel's list of nearby restaurants and on Yelp. Had a wonderful experience at the bar with Diego and Pete. Drinks were good. We shared the artichoke app, insalata pizza and squash ravioli. All were delicious with distinct snd very nice combinations of flavors. I'd recommend the burrata and focaccia for sure! For dinner me and a friend split the scallops and the cacio e Pepe. The scallops were very good but the pasta missed the mark. It was very bland. Prob my least favorite thing I had all night. I also tried the strawberry soda and my friend had the blood orange one and they were both great. I love when places have fun mocktail type drinks. On a recommendation I chose to come here for Sandras birthday dinner. The atmosphere is cozy and decor is rustic both things we love. The chicken parm pizza is unique and very good, we all loved it. The salami board was plentiful and had a good selection of meats. The meatballs were tender and sauce was delicious. The fried artichoke was just ok to us. Sandra had the ribeye steak that was cooked beyond her medium rare asking. It was just an ok piece of meat. The pasta dishes were flavorful but for the prices I feel not enough. The shrimp scampi over pasta should definitely include more than 3 shrimp for what they charge,$28.95 just to much for what you get. The salmon was tender and flavorful. Overall the food is good BUT I think on the pricey side for what it is and what you get. Dessert was good. The cannoli sundae was fantastic and the panna cotta was good also.
