I buy popcorn once or twice a year for our teachers and students; Everyone love the popcorn. Thanks…read moreso much for being our neighboring popcorn shop. Malala Elementary

I love a good family owned business and this one is such a charm!…read more I found out about this place via Groupon. Wasn't really looking for it--just found it interesting and decided to buy. I've seen Just Poppin popcorn in stores, but didnt think they were local. Nice to know when a product is locally created! However, I almost lost out on my good fortune because I waited a day before it was going to expire to use it. Took me a little time to find the place (see tips), but its so cozy inside--and the fresh popcorn makes up for it! A young man greeted me with a smile as I entered the establishment and asked how he could help me. Great to see young people working and knowing how to present customer service--with a smile! Since I had a Groupon, he had to get an adult from the back, but there was no issue with the redemption. I ordered the chocolate drizzle and did wait to have it made fresh, but when do you ever get fresh made popcorn??? With chocolate??? Yeah, so the wait is worth it. Small businesses need our support to thrive, so I'll enjoy my package of popcorn knowing that my purchase contributes to someone else keeping their dream alive. Stop by and have a taste if you're in the area!

I was very surprised how fresh the popcorn was able to stay, even in this Houston humidity. Makes for great party favors, snacks, or pick me ups!

This is still my go-to spot when a popcorn craving hits (or when my 2-gallon tin runs dry). I've reviewed their previous location and checked in there multiple times. I believe I've tried nearly every flavor they offer. My faves continue to be Dill Pickle and Buffalo Ranch. Southwest Jalapeno and Spicy Queso are also very good. I do tilt on the Savory (salty) side, so that should be understood. I've recently been turned on to one of their Specialty flavors, though: Black Tie. Think of it as a fresh version of Cracker Jack's on steroids (without all of the peanuts): caramel-coated popcorn drizzled with milk and white chocolate. To die for! Warning, though: it is expensive and if you eat too much (as I have done), you will get a massive belly ache. Years ago I bought the 2-gallon tin (I actually have two of them); it's a better buy in the long run if you go back for refills. Tins can be filled with one or multiple flavors (separated). Service is always very good. I'm deducting a star this time around, because for the first time in all the times I've been coming here over the years, I was unable to get credit for my purchase on my SpotOn rewards. The employee working could not get their tablet reader to turn on correctly; I was told that the next time I come in that I should tell the owner what happened and he'll credit me and bump up my rewards. He wasn't here today, so what's to insure he'll be there next time I come in? There's no getting around that some of this popcorn is not cheap (which is why I participate in the rewards program), so I was a bit perturbed when I left (although a handful of Black Tie did make me feel better).

Walking into La King's Confectionery is a bit like stepping into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory…read more Located on the Strand, this old-fashioned candy shop has just about every sweet you could ever imagine. From display case after display case filled with various chocolates and candies, to bins overflowing with colorful saltwater taffy, and machines busy making fresh popcorn and warm roasted nuts there's no shortage of sweet treats. You can stop by the classic soda fountain, or pick up something vintage ice cream counter, and even find a spot to pick up tea or coffee, this gem truly has it all. I've been visiting since I was a little girl, and coming back reminded me exactly why it's such a staple on the Strand. This place has been part of Galveston for generations, and it still delivers that same magic. It's always busy, always full of energy, and there's truly something here for everyone. The candy shop alone is worth the stop--rows of old-fashioned sweets, fresh confections, and that nostalgic atmosphere you just don't find anymore. The divinity is divine, and the ice cream is just as good as I remembered. I had the lemon custard (so good!), my brother got a scoop of chocolate on a cone, and my friend ordered cinnamon. My mom insisted she didn't want anything...until she tried my friend's cinnamon. She loved it so much she immediately went and got her own, which says everything. And for $5 a scoop, two could easily share. This is one of those must-stop places when you're on the Island. Whether you're there for the ice cream, the candy, or just the experience, it never disappoints. A+.
