Our burgers were excellent; my only complaint was the bacon was super crispy (overly crispy for me). I got the spicy burger and loved it...perfect spice with some added. We went with the fries and they were really good. I can't say I would change anything. Service was impeccable and the environment was relaxed. First visit and we came on a Tuesday night during Happy Hour. Several appetizers are $8 . It's also Taco Tuesday so their tacos are $4. Yuengling lager is $2.75 so that's what I got for my drink. A local chain known for typically getting overcrowded and overrun with college students. With that reputation, typically with that comes the belief "their food is awful." We came here from Buffalo to watch the Bills Home Opener, it was full of Bills fans! Both the crowd and the atmosphere was amazing! The bartender we had was Myhiar. He was also fantastic! Unfortunately we didn't get to try any of the food because the kitchen was so backed up between two football games going on, which is completely understandable. Although, I did see some plates pass by and they all looked and smelled pretty good (especially the Buffalo Chicken Dip and a couple of the Pizzas). This is my only reason for the 4-star rating. There was a group selling Bills Backer T-Shirts and they also did a free raffle for a backpack cooler, which was all super cool! We ended up at Mario's around 7pm on Wednesday night and were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was. There were plenty of seats to choose from, and while there were other people there it didn't feel busy or chaotic like it may be on the weekends. Our server was friendly and attentive, and food took about 20 minutes. Both the cheeseburger and steak sandwich were delicious. Regular fries were also great, but the sweet potato fries were covered in sugar which we weren't expecting. I would definitely consider the sweet potato fries to be a dessert, and wouldn't order them again. Overall, it was a nice, relaxed dinner and I would return again on a Wednesday. read more

Nut friendly establishment: I don't think much of their bar food has nuts if any. I went for a larger event that booked out the top floor and our catered food had no nuts. A cozy bar in Shadyside that is bigger on the inside than it looks. The first floor has a beer hall-like vibe with high tables to seat 2-4, and a bench with tables and chairs to seat 1-2. The bar is very long with a decently large well to mid-tier liquor selection There's a raised area in the back with more seating. Upstairs after a very narrow stairway are two more bar areas and tables for larger groups, including a large communal table. The heating upstairs is strong. There is nowhere to leave a jacket except on your chair, and you definitely won't need one when all of the heaters are on. Electronics darts machines are present on both the first and second floor, costing $0.75/person/round. There are nightly drink specials and a happy hour M-F 5-7PM. Normal beer prices are $4.25 for something like a Bud Light, $5.25 for mid-tier lagers like a blue moon, $6.25 for a draft craft beer like a local IPA, and $7.25 for stronger craft beers. I ordered a long island iced tea which was $7.50 and made reasonably well (a little light and diluted by too much ice). The food was reasonably good bar food with the crab rangoons being a nice crispy surprise. The chicken fingers were better than Stack'd and also crispy. I didn't try the pizza but it looked good. Two major blunders happened while I was at Mario's: Firstly, I asked one of the bartenders if they had anything local on draft, and she said no. This was blatantly wrong as I noticed when I went back for a second round, as the Brotherly Love Hazy IPA is local enough to Pittsburgh. They also had several bottles of a local lager that was not the best. Secondly, as we were starting a game of darts, the machine froze. We had to flag a bartender down to reset the machine, and they refused to refund us for the cost of the game. It's a small amount but this rudeness in service was off-putting and we didn't want to try to play another round if the machine would eat our money again. Overall, a nice place to host events or grab a cheap drink during a special. Got a little full as I left around 9PM on a Friday, but there was still space available to be comfortable. read more

Not overly crowded but service was way too slow and 45 minutes plus wait for two apps of sliders and another that never arrived until we asked it to be taken off the bill because we had to go. Took 15 minutes to get two beers. Not good. Good part. Sliders were good. Sorry for the not so great review. What a great place that we found on a Saturday afternoon to watch college football games. We easily found a place at the bar and enjoyed Buffalo Chicken Dip with grilled pita chips and tortilla chips. The menu is small, but plenty of good bar food choices. For lunch I ordered the PGH Chicken Salad. It was a HUGE amount of chicken with melted cheese and fried onions topped on a salad with fries! AMAZING! AWFUL. DISGUSTED. I came in this evening for a drink after work. On my way in I passed a girl whose car window got busted because a tree branch snapped and fell into the drivers side corner window. She was rude when I stopped and said I'm so sorry that happened but to my surprise she walked in 10 minutes later and was the bartender taking over for the night shift. 20 minutes after she arrived she was speaking to a regular seated to the right of me and mouthed "whats even worse is I live in highland park where all the N' ers live" I immediately became very mad and knew I was not going to be tipping or ordering any more drinks. The bartender before from the day shift was tipped $5 by me on a $7 bill. To make matters worse, there was an African American man seated to the left of me who could have easily seen what she mouthed to the man to the right of me THANKFULLY he was distracted by his phone at the time. I am DISGUSTED by this type of behavior and cannot believe they would have someone like her on their staff. She was wearing jeans shorts, has dark hair that was pulled back by a clip, and drives a red car. I will not be giving this establishment any more business knowing an employee is racist and is OPENLY using racial slurs. I couldn't be more displeased and appalled. She had no shame when the man she said it to told her I watched her say that. Her response was "I do not care". Not to mention she was treating other customers inappropriately and being extremely rude to them. She needs to be fired ASAP. There should be no room for such hateful behavior. I used to bartend and serve for many years so before her comment I intended on tipping 20+ dollars to help fix her car but when I saw what she said I INSTANTLY changed my mind about staying longer when I initially planned on meeting my boyfriend and spending more money. I will not return until she is fired. Another customer overheard me speaking to my boyfriend on the phone about the situation while in the restroom and was just as appalled as me. As a bills fan, naturally when in Pittsburgh we stopped head to watch the bills in the playoffs. We snatched a seat at the bar, the bartenders were quick which was nice. Cons: if you are coming here for food, the seating is first come first serve. We had a large group that wanted a table to view the game, but people were lined up waiting for guests to finish eating and snipe their table. I had black cherry white claws, my favorite. I think they were about $5. I also ordered the fried pickles, pretzel and cheese, and loaded fries. I enjoyed the pickles, they came with two different dips. Get the build your own fries, the portion is huge. Don't get the pretzel if you don't like a cheese that is basically cold pub cream cheese. My friends and I came here for the Bills-Texans wild card game. It was pretty packed but we ended up getting seats at the bar. The bottled beers were very reasonable, $3 for a blue light. I ordered fish tacos for $9 and they came with tortilla chips and salsa. The tacos were a bit overdone and burnt tasting but the sauce/slaw was spicy and good. The salsa wasn't anything to write home about. The atmosphere was really nice for a sports bar. Lots of TVs and Bills fans. The music they played before the game and during half time was pretty loud and made it hard to have a conversation. I would come here again if we came to Pittsburgh. The service from the bartender was very good despite how busy it was. The prices were very reasonable for a city bar-- the only items over $10 were the pizzas and make your own Mac and cheese. read more

It would've been nice if it were a bit busier, but I'm not complaining! We got mixed drinks and Fried Pickles. The drinks were good and really inexpensive (a little over $2!!). The Fried Pickles were great with the spicy sauce to accommodate - however they were piping hot which we were not warned about.. I ended up burning my lip pretty badly. Went to Mario's with 5 girls and 1 guy (all people of color) and the bouncer Mike refused to scan the guy's ID, claiming it was "fake". He refuses to provide rationale for why the ID was "fake" and instead asked for a passport. This was clear discrimination and extremely rude. He also kept asking for a back up ID but what on EARTH is a back up ID for a real ID????? Then we went back to ask why he refused to even scan the ID in the first place. We asked him if this was somehow a form of discrimination, and he immediately countered with "don't pull the racism card; that's annoying". Apparently it is his discretion to refuse to scan perfectly legal ID's with absolutely no explanation. He claims that even the worst fake ID's scan so I really wonder why his job exists at all... Mike was horrendous and so so frustrating to deal with. Will never come back here again. Honestly please fire him. read more

Better than I thought. Came here late-night to enjoy some drinks and dancing with friends. We decided to go upstairs. It was quite clean with lots of tables and chairs to relax or set your things down. They had several TVs and music (not too loud) playing a mixture of popular music. The employees were very friendly to me and my friends, though the guys got sternly told to go downstairs (it was just after 2:00a) as they were waiting for us to come out of the bathroom. Though I understand they were closing, our friends were just looking out for us and didn't want us to be wandering around looking for them. But I will say they handled their closing MUCH better than Tequila Cowboy, Carson City Saloon, Jimmy D's, and other similar bars I've been to that scream at you to get out and herd you out like cattle at 2:01.
