I haven't been here in years but the food was just as good as I remember and the service was great. I was first sat by the window in the main bar and it was so loud that I could barely hear we asked to move and they moved us quickly to the back bar area, which was nice and they checked to see if it was OK we said yes, but they still offered us the very back room that seemed like it was for private parties and that's where we ended up moving to. They turned the volume of the music lower and even adjusted the heat as it was just the two of us back there the waitress was still very attentive and helpful although she could have easily forgot about us. I was sold on the chai apple martini, even though I was hesitant because it felt more like a Christmas drink and it was February, but it was delicious and I got another one. I ordered the pork chop medium well the sauce was delicious. However, the pork chop was dry. I still ate the whole thing because the sauce and everything accompanying it was amazing. My friend ordered the pesto pasta, which I tried. I really enjoyed it too, especially the Barrata. his steak was also ordered medium well and was drier than my pork chop. I couldn't eat it, but luckily it was not my meal. He did didn't seem to mind too much. We have been to the Urban Tap twice in the last two weeks. Let me say what I love: good quality food and so many beers on tap. We have come for lunch and dinner and both are great. Their beers are excellent; I am an IPA guy and they always have two beers on special. Last time I got a decent IPA, 20 oz worth, for $5 because it was a special. My wife and I split the chicken sandwich and they divided the sandwich and fries on to two plates without asking. Their fries are really good; their fries are fresh cut and perfect. The environment is quiet and not rushed. Service is very good. I can say that we will be regulars here; close location and nothing to tell me to go elsewhere. read more

Our server was so kind and accommodating, his suggestions were perfect. We sat outside which aren't the most comfortable seats. And with how it spaced on the sidewalk, it can get awkward sometimes if there's alot of pedestrians. Food was pretty good. Got the salmon eggs Benedict and the fried capers were added the perfect texture and flavor I was hoping for. My partner got the short rib huevos rancheros, and the meat was so tender and flavorful. My boyfriend is always nervous to try chicken and waffles when it's one big chicken breast but he said it was 10/10 and the chicken was juicy and tender. I got the burger which was okay. We absolutely loved this place while visiting Pittsburgh! Our Airbnb was within walking distance so we ended up coming here twice. We ordered the wings extra crispy with the Original Tap dry rub and they were so good! We also ordered the mac and cheese to go, it was delicious and a surprisingly big portion. The staff were super friendly both nights and more than happy to let us sample a few beers before figuring out what we liked. We made reservations for yesterday at 11am for four people for their St. Paddy's Day brunch. The brunch items looked really good and fun on their social media. They did text me a few days beforehand stating that they were limiting our time there to 90 minutes due to the demand and I appreciated the heads up. I got there a few minutes before 11am and gave my name for our table. The two people hostess stand just ignored me while they were looking for menus after I gave my name, no "give us a second" or anything. One of them led me to our small booth in the back. The drinks we got were sweet but pretty decent. The food was just okay at best. The potatoes were pretty good and my eggrolls were bland. Our server herself was fairly nice and efficient. We had eaten, gotten our leftover containers, and paid our checks by around noon. They let us do separate checks which was convenient. read more

I've been to The Urban Tap before and had good experiences, but this time was not up to par with the rest. I ordered a medium rare filet, but it was nearly well-done when I cut into it. I notified our server, and instead of being offered a new steak or asked if I wanted to order something else, they asked "what do you want me to do about this?" I was a bit taken aback by the response, but I ultimately said that I would just like a new steak. When the next steak came out, it was still a bit overcooked, but I decided to cut my losses and just eat it rather than risk another off-putting interaction. The steak was also brought out without the buttery topping this time, and I received far fewer potatoes. Our server never once checked back in to see if my steak was any better, nor did they ever ask how my friend's food was. The only decent part of our meal were the fries that came with my friend's burger. We were never asked if we needed refills, and our server got a bit of an attitude when we placed two cards down to pay. I will likely not be back again after this experience. I got the bison burger with brussel sprouts as a side, and both were good (4/5)! The Brussels sprouts were nice and crispy! The burger was juicy, and the bacon gave it a nice crunch! The service was pretty good (4/5). We were there for a few hours catching up and watching a game, and the waitress kept consistently checking in. Not surprised it was packed with a 30 minute wait before 6pm on a Friday, because their happy hour deals were amazing. $5 wine by the glass, cocktails and $2 off shareables is a real attraction. They have a huge draft beer list on the wall at the bar, some very tempting to try. Service at the bar during our wait was quick and easy and the bartenders were very nice. The hostess stand didn't seem to know what they were doing, but we were sat well before 30 minutes had passed. The food was amazing, the giant pretzel was delicious, as well as the Cobb. Adding their herbed fries was a great addition to my salad, I think they might have been fresh cut, too. The dining area was loud, but went unnoticed with the food in front of me. This review is for brunch service only. We came in on a Saturday around 10:30 and were seated without reservations. I will say the closer it got to 12 pm, it got busy so recommend reservations. The coffee menu is fun, with interesting options. Our group has a lemon latte as well as lavender honey chai latte. We were very impressed by their drinks. They were all done so well and elegantly. Nice surprise! Food wise, the menu didn't offer much for vegetarians mainly carb options. My friend did get the egg and avocado dish. We laughed at the avocado they literally cut for her (skin still on as well as the pit). Another friend got the chicken and biscuit dish. It was large though the gravy was eh. I got the challah French toast, which was served with berries and almond slices. It was fried overwhelming the challah flavor. I found it quite sweet and didn't use the syrup. Had a fantastic experience wandering in here on a Saturday evening. I am new to the neighborhood and I'm wandering nightly to find different places, but this one will certainly find me returning. The place is decked out like Halloween for their "Summerween" thing, which is a cute way to pull out the Halloween decorations and use them more than once a year. Staff was wearing costumes (some of them), and people seemed to be in a good mood in general. I mean, who doesn't love Halloween? (Answer: people with no sense of fun.) Ordered a chicken sandwich with Brussels instead of fries and two different local beers: a hazy IPA and a blueberry watermelon sour. Both very good, with much help from my server, Lizzie, who was fantastic. Great personality, super knowledgeable, and we happened to have similar taste in beer so that was very helpful. Even though she looked busy, she paid very good attention, hit all the POS's, and did not make me feel rushed. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and juicy, and the little pieces of ginger on it give it a great pop. Will certainly try to replicate it at home, but more likely will be back for another. Brussels were a tiny bit greasy, but not enough to stop me from finishing them. Lots of choices on the menu (including what looks like 100 beer taps from all over the country) make me feel like I will not need to order the same thing twice during my year in Pittsburgh. Hello Monday... and hello happy hour! This evening, my dear friends and I went to Urban Tap for their happy hour and $5 classic cocktails. What a deal! The cocktails were tasty, however, my dear friends reported that the margarita was a little salty... which seemed to be the theme for the night. Their happy hour also included $2 off shareables and we got the pulled pork nachos, crispy rice & tuna, smoked Gouda mac & cheese, and the short rib poutine. The crispy rice tuna had good flavor but no crisp, the nachos were good, and everything else was just salty. Unlike the food, I am not salty about the service and the ambiance. Our waiter was friendly and the music was "popping" (as the youths would say). It had me groovin' in my seat! My dear friends and I would return for happy hour drinks and donut holes. Until then... I was to start by saying I came here for a Brunch Event with a party of about 25 or so people. So, I think that my experience wasn't great because the restaurant wasn't equipped to handle the party. 1. The entire coffee menu was unavailable for unknown reasons. This was unfortunate because their coffee menu is one of the reasons why people come here. I mean... they even they have tap in the name. So that was pretty disappointing. I ended up drinking the water (which, idk if Pittsburgh tap water naturally tastes bad, so I can't blame the nasty tap water on them.). 2. There weren't enough utensils, so we had to use plastic disposable cutlery. I shouldn't even need to explain why this is not ok 3. My food came out really cold. Which, again, this might not be a problem for smaller parties. So, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that the food was cold due to the party size. 4. Finally, I'm not sure how the tables are managed, but usually large parties have more than one server. I don't want to unfairly say that the service was lacking since she was managing a large party by herself. This is more of a note to management to either a. Limit the menu size for large parties or b. Make sure you're adequately staffed if you have a large party. 25 people and one waiter is unfair to our party and to the waiter. Overall, I personally wouldn't visit again. But, like I said, my experience is most likely due to the party size. read more
