    Salmon Benedict
    Devona S.

Our server was so kind and accommodating, his suggestions were perfect. We sat outside which aren't the most comfortable seats. And with how it spaced on the sidewalk, it can get awkward sometimes if there's alot of pedestrians. Food was pretty good. Got the salmon eggs Benedict and the fried capers were added the perfect texture and flavor I was hoping for. My partner got the short rib huevos rancheros, and the meat was so tender and flavorful. My only disappointment is that the potatoes don't come as a default side. But they were amazing so make sure you order them!

We came here for brunch with a group of friends. Service was really great and she was really attentive. My boyfriend is always nervous to try chicken and waffles when it's one big chicken breast but he said it was 10/10 and the chicken was juicy and tender. I got the burger which was okay. Server was really sweet when I asked if I could get my egg fried because I forgot to ask prior to ordering. Overall we had a fun time and will be back!

Beautiful and yummy drink specials, really solid food options too, and a cute place overall to meet up for dinner and drinks! The flavors were all on point, with the General Tso Cauliflower tasting absolutely fire and the tater tots being a generous serving and perfectly crispy, but you can't go wrong with really anything here! The sandwiches are big portions and really tasty, and they always have some fun theme or specials going on! With super friendly staff, it's my go to for drinks in the area.

We absolutely loved this place while visiting Pittsburgh! Our Airbnb was within walking distance so we ended up coming here twice. We ordered the wings extra crispy with the Original Tap dry rub and they were so good! We also ordered the mac and cheese to go, it was delicious and a surprisingly big portion. The staff were super friendly both nights and more than happy to let us sample a few beers before figuring out what we liked. There were plenty of seats at the bar, and we were able to walk right up both times. If you're in the area and craving good wings, this is definitely a good spot!

Hosted a private event with drinks and appetizers in the back room at the Urban Tap and it was great! $200 to rent the space and we had a great experience ordering appetizers, which were all delicious. I love the Brussels sprouts especially! The pirogies and wings are great, too. This was easy to book and the team at the Urban Tap took great care of us, highly recommend!

We made reservations for yesterday at 11am for four people for their St. Paddy's Day brunch. The brunch items looked really good and fun on their social media. They did text me a few days beforehand stating that they were limiting our time there to 90 minutes due to the demand and I appreciated the heads up. I got there a few minutes before 11am and gave my name for our table. The two people hostess stand just ignored me while they were looking for menus after I gave my name, no "give us a second" or anything. One of them led me to our small booth in the back. The drinks we got were sweet but pretty decent. The food was just okay at best. The potatoes were pretty good and my eggrolls were bland. Our server herself was fairly nice and efficient. We had eaten, gotten our leftover containers, and paid our checks by around noon. They let us do separate checks which was convenient.

I've been to The Urban Tap before and had good experiences, but this time was not up to par with the rest. I ordered a medium rare filet, but it was nearly well-done when I cut into it. I notified our server, and instead of being offered a new steak or asked if I wanted to order something else, they asked "what do you want me to do about this?" I was a bit taken aback by the response, but I ultimately said that I would just like a new steak. When the next steak came out, it was still a bit overcooked, but I decided to cut my losses and just eat it rather than risk another off-putting interaction. The steak was also brought out without the buttery topping this time, and I received far fewer potatoes. Our server never once checked back in to see if my steak was any better, nor did they ever ask how my friend's food was. The only decent part of our meal were the fries that came with my friend's burger. We were never asked if we needed refills, and our server got a bit of an attitude when we placed two cards down to pay. I will likely not be back again after this experience. It was very disappointing from start to finish.

Great vibe. Bar seating kinda seems like I'd fall off but like the foot rest ledge. Chicken Caesar salad was great. Too much salt on the bread. Got the white cranberry cosmo??? Was a little too sweet but enjoyed it. Genius poured proper...wtv. Come during happy hour cuz the prices r ...insane...I know it's shadyside but...still in the burgh.

I got the bison burger with brussel sprouts as a side, and both were good (4/5)! The Brussels sprouts were nice and crispy! The burger was juicy, and the bacon gave it a nice crunch! The service was pretty good (4/5). We were there for a few hours catching up and watching a game, and the waitress kept consistently checking in. The interior of the restaurant and bar is nice, and there are plenty of TVs to watch sports games on. It isn't too loud also, so you can still easily have a conversation.

I always forget about this spot, but was in the mood for some trivia and made a reservation! It definitely gets busy on trivia nights and creates a really fun atmosphere!! I ordered the Good Morning America Espresso Martini and WOW. Not only was it stunning but so delicious. It was made with amaretto and had a lovely and rich cherry flavor! I absolutely loved it! Ordered the brussel sprouts app, they're deep fried and so good! And burgers are discounted on Tuesdays from 9-11, so I got the burger with fries! It was solid, and the perfect brain fuel during trivia!

Tbh a hit or miss. I usually get the Brussel sprouts side and it is either nice and crispy or super soggy, greasy, and salty. It also leaves a residue feeling in your mouth. The pro is that the portion is massive and a great deal for $5! The inconsistency with how they come out makes me meh on this place overall.

No matter how many times I go to Urban Tap, I am never disappointed! The food is always incredible and they are super accommodating. The southwest veggie burger and pesto pasta have to be my favorite things on the menu. They have an incredible rotating beer list, so I can get anything I'm in the mood for whether it's I.C. Light Mango or a Chai Milk Stout! The vibe is amazing, and they do a pretty fun trivia night!

This is a rarity in Pittsburgh and I'm glad it exists. We dined at Spork before they switched to…read morethe tasting menu and wasn't too fond of it-my opinion has changed! There is a hard start time as the tasting menu is done in a large group setting-serving everyone at once. So, we found ourselves wandering around the neighborhood and then standing in front of the door waiting for 6pm to strike, I felt like a creep. The area itself is an open floor plan so when they welcome you in, it's confusing to see the table we will be seated around but also see little stations for the canapés. Little awkward. We found a two-seater, and as a plus size woman I felt a bit cramped. My husband and I are both tall (5'11" and 6'3" so we were both fighting over who got the bench seat vs the little stool. There's always that awkwardness when you're looking around trying to figure out what the heck is about to happen and wondering..when is it time to EAT. We did 3 or 4 canapés which were all enjoyable-one that stands out to me had goat cheese and beets-yum! We are asked to take our seats at the large table and ...awkward again bc we are just kind of all looking around waiting. I have a sensitivity to alcohol so I did the N.A. pairing and I didn't feel like I missed out on much. The sommelier did a great job at explaining the notes and why each pairing happened. I really enjoyed the tasting menu. The chef kept us abreast of what we were trying and looped in other accompanying staff which gave us some of their backstory which was nice. I love that the restaurant has an urban garden and tries to reduce waste-that's so important. Minus 1 star because of the clunkiness of the bench area vs the large table where we ate and the cost. $275/pp plus tip isn't something that many can swing in a blue collar city.

I've pondered for about two weeks whether I wanted to post this review, but it is my honest experience. I've experienced a lot of tasting menus, including a ridiculous number of James Beard and Michelin-level restaurants, so I had high expectations. The atmosphere felt more casual than anticipated, and the space--surrounded by fermenting and dehydrating equipment--wasn't the elevated setting I associate with a $275 tasting. The noise from the machines during the first part of the meal was also distracting. It still felt like a place that was recently converted from a different concept. I know they are showcasing different was of preparation but the setup was cluttering. Service and pacing never quite clicked. Guests start in a lounge and are served about five canapés with an awkward pace and sequence. The lounge area isn't unique and doesn't feel distinctly set apart from the dining room, and the entire 6 p.m. seating hinges on everyone arriving on time. When several diners showed up late, the evening's rhythm stalled before the first course even landed--an unfortunate distraction for a format that relies on flow. The food showcases some thoughtful ideas, but the execution struggled, with some dishes having way too many ideas and/or elements. Very little was memorable, and many dishes arrived lukewarm, if not cool. Unlike most chef's counters and/or tasting menus where the kitchen and assembly are combined, Spork carries all the plates and cooked ingredients from the kitchen to a cold stainless steel counter, then assembles for guests. The result is a disjointed service and errors in food quality. The required drink pairing added a significant cost, and while a few pours worked well, others overshadowed the dishes instead of lifting them (cocktails specifically). But they actually grow many of their own herbs and vegetables right next door and most of dishes looked great. The Maine scallop with calamari was the standout. I have no issue spending hundreds for a great dining experience, but for $275 + tax + tip...I expected a more polished and cohesive experience, and much better execution with the food--temperature and flavor. With some adjustments around the dishes, service, and the mandatory pairing, it could come closer to matching the price point.

Do you even know Pittsburgh restaurants, if you don't know Square Cafe?…read more Was it packed? Yes Did we have to wait? Yup But isn't that what we want for our favorite businesses ... and isn't even better when they are fully equipped for their popularity and make the experience great through it all We were immediately greeted by the hostess and given an accurate wait time. You could see the runners and bus team hustling to move along service and turn over tables. As soon as we were seated, the waiter came over and told us to be easy with orders and honestly our coffees and our meals came ridiculously quickly given that every table was fully seated. Okay... so that's how they are awesome despite the overwhelming popularity. Let's just cover the real scoop as to why they are so popular. The restaurant is colorfully decorated with local art and contact to purchase the displayed items. The table has a QR code of Pittsburgh Bucket List places to visit.. so this place is built on community. The menu is filled with modern yummy takes on food, options for every diet, and some extremely inventive local favorites.. I couldn't see a Reuben Benedict and not order it. Marbled Rye toasted with freshly pulled apart corned beef, Russian dressing, and of course a perfectly poached egg with hollandaise. My wife ordered the Chive Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich... and let me tell you that biscuit would be good for every meal of the day! The seasonal drink menu sounds delicious too but we went with a Chai Tea Latte and a French Toast Latte. This place is a Pittsburgh destination! You gotta go to Square Cafe!
