Tale of two meals: I had avoided this place, for a long time. My first meal, a couple of years back, was one-star AWFUL. Places change. Maybe it was better? I came in, on one slow weeknight, I think a Tuesday,, nearer to closing. Bartender, a petite woman, was EXCELLENT. Pasta was al dente. I was excited to find a better Italian restaurant. I brought my daughter back, to try it, on a Saturday. The place is packed with people who look like they were taking the night off from their retirement communities. Smelled a lot like methane in the room, but that's an unfortunate side effect of the Lake Worth sewers in the downtown area, that afflicts restaurants from time to time. (No, it wasn't decomposing older folks.) The food was AWFUL. Food took 40 minutes, from order to table. Pasta overcooked. Sauces, including the marinara that I had asked to have with my ravioli? Poorly made. One was cold enough to switch out, but I couldn't get the bartender's attention, and my daughter dealt with it. Bartender? Treats his regulars well. The rest of us? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Worst service that I've had, sitting at the bar, in years. On my way out? I saw a big gent eating from a seafood pasta that literally was being served on a turkey platter. That was enough excess to almost make me hurl. Sealed the deal. Lesson learned. Won't be back again for a long while. read more

I love to come to Mario's I love supporting businesses on the ave. I love the concept, the piano music, and the food. I hate to even have to write this review however I really want things to get better. On multiple occasions I have had bad experiences with the restaurant manager. If the owner is reading this please consider evaluating his performance and abilities. His bizarre and continual unprofessional behavior have unfortunately become the only consistent factors of our visits. We have witnessed him belittling female staff loud enough for patrons to hear on multiple occasions. We've witnessed him be short and rude to customers (ourselves included). We have witnessed him sitting at the bar watching the tv and swearing as he watched football aloud as if he was in his own living room. Based on other reviews here I'm very sad to hear that this man may be the owner of the restaurant. If this man is the owner I hope he puts this place up for sale very soon. I hope he reads this and takes a look in the mirror and evaluates his behavior, demeanor, and life skills. I hope his great employees realize how toxic and unprofessional his behavior is and that they deserve better and so does our community. We had a very good dining experience here. We'd had an early breakfast and a light lunch, so we wound up going early to dinner. We happened to arrive there while their early bird dinners were still in effect. They don't have happy hour liquor/drinks, but they had plenty of food specials on the EB menu. We parked down the street. The restaurant was not that busy when we arrived, but filled up as the evening progressed. We sat at the bar. The bartender gave us very good service and was helpful in explaining all the specials and options. The meals came with a choice of salad. We both had the Caesar salad. And we had rolls, too -- half garlic and half plain. My husband had the snapper francaise. He said it was excellent. I had the whole Maine lobster over linguine. The lobster could be had 3 ways. I had it done scampi style. There was a lot of garlic. The lobster in its shell was a bit messy to eat, but tasty. The linguine was Al dente. And it was good enough to save the leftover pasta for another meal. We'd definitely go back to try more items on this special menu. read more

Had around 5 dinners here -- all of them excellent. Pasta, pizza selection very correctly made. Friendly, super professional servers (think about it: how rare is this in 2025?). Lively, fun room. (We last visited on Christmas Eve and the place was packed with families enjoying themselves.) Only negative: totally generic wine list. (At least selections are fairly priced.) You CAN get better Italian cooking in PBC, but only if you pay close to double what you do here -- seriously. So give 'em a try! read more

4 occupied tables plus our table of 5 at 6pm on a Sunday night. Calamari came overcooked and 60% tentacles, gorgonzola salad was not fresh...small and brown with no gorgonzola! Days ahead, we preordered two 2lb lobsters and they offered us 1.25lb. When we insisted, they brought out the 2 pounders! The lobster with scampi sauce tasted awful and my guest left it! Two veal chops were both overcooked and tasted like old shoe leather as if they came out of the freezer. In the past the food was delicious and we've anticipated this meal every year (for 15 years) for my birthday. We will never go to Mario's again. The service and food have deteriorated to such an extent, that we will never go to Mario's again. read more

The food here is fantastic, but the service is so bad that we won't be returning or recommending it to our friends. We were seated 20 minutes late for our reservation because they didn't clear and bus our already empty table. The chef decided to stop making bread when we sat down (for a 7:30 reservation), so we never got bread. We were seated at a folding table and folding chairs on the sidewalk away from the restaurant, so we didn't feel like we were at the restaurant and kept getting forgotten about. Then, it started to rain on us, and as we were switching tables to one that was luckily empty, they started bringing out our food while bussing the new table. We weren't even sitting down yet, and they started to bring it out. We were still on the sidewalk, but now feeling a part of the restaurant, but the singer that they brought was so loud and out of tune, it was horrible to listen to. And they forgot half of my dad's dinner and said nothing about it until we asked 3 times for them to bring it out. The food was delicious, so if you are going to dine here, definitely try the Caesar salad and the eggplant stack. All of our pasta was delicious. If you're looking for an authentic Italian experience without leaving the zip code, Marios is the spot!! From the garlic rolls to the dessert, everything is A++. Started with a nice bottle of red wine to get the night flowing and their garlic knots which was the perfect combination of garlicy, buttery, and fluffy then we did the classic girls night move and ordered three dishes to split so we could get a little taste of everything. We ordered the lasagna, shrimp scampi, and rigatoni (would rate them in that order from good, better, best). The wait staff was also super great and made sure to get us in and out so we wouldn't miss our show next store. Highly recommend Marios!! read more

On Sunday evening we met another couple here for a lobster special dinner. For $39 we had a 2.5 lb. Lobster with pasta. I had mine prepared scampi style. It was very messy and a lot of work but very delicious. Each couple shared a salad and because we mentioned the Legends radio station which told us about the lobster special, we each got a glass of wine gratis. Our waiter was terrific offering his recommendations and delivering our dinners on a timely basis with no issues. Next time I'd like to try some other entrees. Very quaint Venue on a Main Street. I was able to get parking right in front on the street. There used to be no parking lot. read more

After an afternoon at the wine bar, we came for dessert & coffee. This is a cloth-cover nice restaurant, and really nice & romantic. It's a Saturday night, right before closing, so not a big crowd. Still, the servers were welcoming and attentive even though we weren't staying for a full meal. We tried the bread pudding & pistachio tartufo with shots of espresso. Uh-mazin! We've been coming here for years, which made this experience especially disappointing. To start, I rated service 3 stars solely because our server, Ava, was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and genuinely pleasant. The hostess was also lovely. Unfortunately, the kitchen missed the mark. A dish we order often--the fish stew--was not up to standard. It was overwhelmingly filled with calamari and mussels, with only a tiny piece of lobster, two small crab legs, and essentially no fish. It leaned more like a broth than a proper stew. When we asked to speak with a manager, the situation worsened. Franco's response was dismissive, rude, and unnecessarily confrontational. Rather than addressing the issue, he seemed intent on being argumentative and getting the last word. It was uncomfortable and, frankly, embarrassing--especially in how he spoke to my 85-year-old mother. Mistakes in the kitchen happen and are understandable. What isn't acceptable is poor management and disrespectful treatment of guests. There are too many great dining options to return after an experience like this. Went to the Early Bird Dinner at Mario's tonight. Excellent! Caesar salad was good and it is nice to be able to get anchovies on a Caesar salad these days. Snapper was fresh and delicious. Friend had Penne alla Vodka and thought it was one of the best she ever had. There was a very rude and difficult female diner at the next table who was very loud and seemed dissatisfied with everything. The manager, Patrick, handled the situation with grace and professionalism. Thank you to Patrick and also to Michael, our waiter, both of whom made our evening special. read more

The hubs and I went in for a weeknight date. We were greeted and seated right away, and given our menus. After hearing the extensive choice of specials, however, the menus were not needed. We started with a deep fried burrata that sat on top of greens and a fresh pizza crust. When we broke open the golden crust, the gooey cheese goodness spread out onto the pizza crust creating a gorgeous appetizer that was enough for many more than just the two of us. That probably would have been enough, but our entrees arrived and looked and smelled delicious. I had shrimp and scallop scampi, and the hubs had yellow tail snapper stuffed with crab. Both on point. Of course we used the complimentary garlic rolls to sop up the every drop. We totally pigged out and had leftovers to boot. The staff is accommodating and friendly and makes you feel welcome. One of our favorite restaurants! I am Italian and a foodie, I have to say that Mario's is one of the best in the area. It's atmosphere is casual, but the food is over the top delicious!! One of my favorites is the House salad with the Gorgonzola cheese , the hot appetizer is fabulous and can be shared. The broccoli rabe with sausage is perfect not bitter. We also love their sausage, stuffed long, hots as an appetizer and their meatballs are the best around. My husband wants to ask if he could ask our local chef if he would make them like Mario's does.. We've had all kinds of pasta there, but I have to say no one can compete with their simple marinara sauce !!! The host Henry is always gracious and welcomes us every year when we go back . What a disappointment!! The food was ok (not great) and the host left much to be desired. He seated us right by the door & when we asked if we could have another table he yelled at our server and told him we didn't have a reservation so he wasn't moving us ( there were tables available). My son had people pushing his chair constantly while he was trying to eat. We couldn't have a conversation because there were people standing over us most of our meal. But what was most shocking was that the host came out and grabbed the empty chair at our table and passed it to someone over my son's head while we were eating!!! He didn't ask if he could take the chair or even acknowledge our existence! This was supposed to be a special evening, unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Absolutely unbelievable and completely disrespectful. When I asked to speak with the manager to understand what was going on, the man looked me straight in the face and said, "I'm the owner." Honestly, that made the whole situation even worse. The attitude, the arrogance, the lack of professionalism -- it was one of the most humiliating and disgusting restaurant experiences I've ever had, especially as a neighbor who lives in the area and tries to support local businesses. If this is how they treat customers, especially locals, then I can only imagine what the rest of the operation is like. Mario's Restaurant in Lake Ave is an embarrassment to the community. Marios catered a rehearsal dinner at my condo the night before our daughter was going to get married. All my closet friends and family were there and I want to make sure we had enough delicious food to serve to everyone. Well, Marios came through with flying colors. Not only did they help me decide what to serve but the portions were just right. Everyone complimented us on how good everything tasted . I some penne and some tortellini left over which I served on Sunday to some relatives who stopped by before flying out that day. It went well with our red wine and was enjoyed once again. Although Mario's website still says they're located in Lantana, they moved to Lake Ave in downtown Lake Worth Beach. They offer the same delicious food though. Yay! They also have several outdoor seats, with some tables under cover. We met some friends for the early-bird dinner. Note that you must be seated by 5:30 even though early-bird supposedly runs until 6:00. We made reservations for a week night, which wasn't necessary. The wait staff told us that weekends do get busy, so reservations may be needed then. The early-bird menu offers a fairly extensive list of items for $20, which is only a dollar or two off of the regular prices, but the deal includes soup or salad and coffee or tea. Our waiter, Joey, was very nice and very attentive. Despite being new at his job, he was knowledgeable about the menu items and quickly sought answers to our questions. After initially telling us that happy hour drinks were available at the bar, he subsequently informed us that no happy hour was being offered. Boo! Our friends ordered a crab cake appetizer, which they raved about. It was a large portion, suitable for sharing. We had the chicken spinach soup, which was the soup of the day. Temperature was just lukewarm and it included unseasoned pieces of chicken in a nice, homemade broth. Disappointing overall. We would have preferred the pasta fagioli soup, which is their daily soup offering, but early-bird = no substitutions. (Seems a bit rigid given that the pasta fagioli soup was listed at a lower price than the soup of the day on the menu.) The entrees were excellent. Our friends each had the snapper francaise, which was a nice sized portion and was well prepared in a lemon and wine sauce. My wife had the chicken parmesan. And, as with our previous visits, it was amazingly tender. She loved it. The pasta sauce had a bit of a spice to it, which she also thoroughly enjoyed. She wasn't too happy with the puddle of water at the bottom of the bowl of pasta. Why can't restaurants properly drain their pasta before serving it? I liked the chicken marsala. The sauce was thicker than marsala sauce served by other restaurants and it had a robust flavor. Overall, we had delicious meals and will continue to visit Mario's. read more

Mario's is in our rotation for a nice date night treat. The Wifey and I headed down to Lake Ave. to grab a bite without having much of a plan or particular taste for what to eat. It didn't take long before we both gravitated to Mario's. We walked right in, got a table, and had a delicious experience. We left stuffed and happy we made that decision to go there. The service is always great with knowledgeable friendly staff. Excellent special selections. And reasonable prices for what you get. So what did we get? We started with a really cool mozzarella ball, lightly deep fried on a pizza crust with greens. Three for dinner. Started off with calamari. Disappointing. Calamari at Benny's at the beach tasted better. Would I order again? No. Mrs. had a red wine. I opted to just stick with over water for the evening. Donna, our waitress on Wednesday evening brought us garlic rolls. Nice taste. We did have an option to go with plain rolls, but chose garlic rolls. Good choice. Wife ordered Chicken Parm, pretty much her go to choice. Enjoyed the chicken, pasta and sauce. Saved half for Thursday dinner. Daughter opted for ravioli. She felt it was a good choice. I usually opt for chicken marsala. However, tonight they were offering a seafood special that included lobster tail, shrimp, clams and oysters with a pasta and a choice of white or red. I opted for white. Not disappointed with my choice. A good mix of tastes and textures. Overall, except for the calamari, we enjoyed the meal. BTW, I did notice comments the small table crowded together inside the restaurant. We opted for a four top outdoors. Glad we did. Would have been extremely tight inside once our entrees came out. The word of the day: Delicious! We frequently eat Italian food, and Mario's fare is amazing. The freshness of the ingredients and quality preparation were seen throughout our meals. We had chicken parmesan, which was cooked to perfection and incredibly tender. It came with a sizeable portion of pasta. Similarly, one member of our group raved about his veal parm and another said the calamari in a spicy sauce was excellent. Another winning dish was one of the featured specials. It consisted of a couple of pork ribs cooked in Mario's Sunday sauce accompanied by a large meatball and a side of rigatoni. Even the standard rolls - both plain and loaded with garlic - were warm, fresh and yummy. Yes, we ordered more while we waited for our entrees. One member of our group was dissatisfied with the chicken cacciatore as it was over-cooked and tough. The restaurant promptly apologized and removed the item from the bill. We arrived in time to enjoy 1/2 price happy hour drinks, with a good selection of mixed drinks, beer and wine. Although the waiter was courteous and accommodating, the meal delivery was a bit slow given the small number of patrons dining. We were in no hurry, however, and enjoyed the al fresco atmosphere on the front patio. The food prices seemed a bit high relative to other nice Italian restaurants, especially since the dinners did not include salad. The quantity of food was certainly not lacking as several of us packed boxes of leftovers. We sure didn't want to waste any of our meals.
