Marx Home might not have the exhaustive selection of a Sur La Table but it is excellently curated with brands not available at Wal-mart. (Besides when I go to Wal-mart it's so enormous I have to take a nap in the towel section halfway through my shop) Every time I've gone to Marx they've always had either exactly what I needed or a workable replacement. These are the kinds of bread and butter stores that Hudson can always use more of. (Don't get me wrong I love a gourmet sandwich but can only eat so many.) Heading there later to buy a lasagna pan (okay, not that exotic I know but my old one went on walkabout and the relatives are coming this weekend).

I found a window that I really liked and inquired as to shipping policies and condition of the window. They said shipping was free and the window was stable for framing and mounting. When the window arrived a few weeks later it was crated and palletized for secure shipping. When I opened the crate, I noticed that the leading was severely deteriorated and the top section had loose pieces of glass. I discussed the issue with the folks at FETY and they accepted partial responsibility and said they would cover half of the repair costs of the upper section, which they did. Upon further evaluation of the other two sections, I found them to be in better shape but the edge framing was still in poor condition and they required an additional $1000 worth of repair/restoration work which FETY did not offer to contribute to. Overall, a beautiful window at a fair price but they should have been more forthright about the condition of the window and the need for restoration before it could be mounted. They are generally responsive to customer concerns and are willing try to resolve issues up to a point.

The owner gave me a heads up about the new men's location at 610 Warren -- she also gave killer recommendations for places to eat in the area. The men's location was a blast to browse. A small but well-curated selection of CDG, Yohji, Issey Miyake, Gucci -- and even newer stuff from Noah. The owner there (they're a husband-wife duo) was super charming and friendly. Highly recommended for any menswear / streetwear / vintage fashion heads!

I can't believe I've walked by this shop a million times without going in. Chatted with the store owner who filled us in his travels to Turkey to bring the most interesting Tribal Rugs to the heart of Woodstock. He even went into detail about the weave and the type wool it takes to create a tasteful rug. Ok...Good information. You'll notice Anatolia by all the decorative pillows and small area rugs outside his shop. Inside is small, but loaded- he's been in business for a long time, so we didn't second-guess his expertise. We were also looking for a non-slip pad to go with our rug to place it underneath- but was out of those. He was kind enough to provide us with a binder full of non-slip samples to choose from and if we liked, we can jot down the (800) number to order ourselves. My small Persian rug and the decorative pillow we purchased, are excellent quality and didn't hurt our pockets. I wanted to shop til I dropped and replace some of our imitation Persian rugs with the real deal- but that's not gonna happen just yet.

As others have said, Scott is amazing. Very helpful, knowledgeable, relaxed, patient, and has been amazingly easy to deal with pre and post-sale. We aren't carpet specialists by any means but, being a bit OCD, needing a carpet and living a couple blocks from ABC, have done a decent amount of research online and on each floor of ABC to understand how rugs are made, what goes into the cost, and what was important to us. Ultimately ABC was just too expensive. At Anatolia, we were surprised to spot a rug that was beautiful, hand-knotted, and had the little details (subtle color variations from vegetable dyes made in small batches) that we loved at a much much more affordable price. Scott even made it easy to try it at home to make sure it worked for us. They also had some great antique rugs, but we had already decided that a new one was a better fit for our situation. Overall, a really a surprising and terrific experience. We'll certainly be back and will be recommending them to everyone.
