There's being knowledgeable in your speciality, and then there's just being an asshole. Mark is exactly the kind of arrogant doctor I try to steer very clear of. It is clear that he thinks himself the end all be all of knowledge, with no humility that there are certain aspects of a more complicated patient's diagnosis and treatment than he can fully grasp. It's sad because that kind of attitude is what gives many doctors such a bad rap, and lead people to not get care. Let alone that, he talked shit about other doctors within the same health system, was condescending and acted like his time was being wasted on answering questions. (After having to wait 45 minutes to see him) When I shared this experience with my own primary care doctor, she shared that this is why she tries to avoid doctors as a patient as much as possible because of how degrading and demeaning the experience can be. I have a high level of empathy for doctors trying to work within a very flawed system that gives them minimal time with their patients, but this level of being unable to show any decency in bedside manner is unacceptable. If nothing else, I hope that others seeking out a Sutter allergist take to heart the negative reviews here. Being a "straight shooter" doesn't mean you have to be a condescending dick. You are paying for your health care, so make sure you are going to people and places that respect you. read more

Dr. Grinjnsztein was recommended by our pediatrician to get my daughter tested for allergies when she was an infant. We initially went to another allergist and I was convinced that allergy was a field that the medical group created for a bunch of loser doctors who couldn't get into a specialty. They tested my daughter at that office and it turned out that she was allergic to everything and at the time, you shouldn't even depend/rely on the accuracy of skin tests or even blood tests. We went to Dr. Grijnsztein and he immediately made us feel at ease and made it so easy for us to ask him questions and push back/give feedback/input. He ended up prescribing an epi pen for my daughter. He took his time to show us how to use it to make sure that we were comfortable using the epi pen. Instead of just sending us off on our way, Dr. G followed up with us through the years and made sure we were updated on latest news. Most importantly, he did not automatically assumed that our daughter was allergic to the items on the list and worked with us on keeping a food/daily journal on things she was exposed to. I was given a referral to Dr. G to see if allergies were playing a role in my frequent and persistent ear and sinus infections. An appointment was made easily after his office contacted me after my referral was approved by my insurance company. The office is spotless and they have friendly reminders to leave beverages and food out of the office out of respect for other patients. His staff is friendly, polite, and professional. Dr. G has amazing bedside manner and takes his time listening to you and your concerns. I found out I was asthmatic and was referred to an ENT specialist. While he was unable to completely solve my issues himself, I am thankful for his knowledge and recommendations. My asthma is under control and I feel better when I work out or in the midst of my daily grind. read more

I was having an allergic reaction to something, I had seen for other dermatologists multiple times and everyone kept giving me steroid cream, not mark, he explained everything very well and talk to me like I was a person not like I was retarded because I said it is not eczema. Anyway he told me because I'm a new mother it's probably an allergy to a baby product, low and behold I switched my daughters shampoo and voilla I'm cured! Dr. Mark Grijnsztein is actually an undercover Superhero. Besides my Dad, my husband and my Labrador, he's my fourth favorite guy on the planet. Having lived on the East Coast, Central Texas and now Northern California, I've experienced all kinds of trees and grass and pollen. Until a few weeks ago I've never had a problem. And then, I really had big, big problems. A trip to urgent care, more cold meds then I could fit in a medicine drawer, I was out of options. And then it occurred to me, what if these were allergies? Everyone complains about them but I've never had an issue... until now. Things still aren't great and I spend most days staring longingly out the window, wishing I could be in the sun and feel the breeze, shut up with the central air going and wearing too many layers for Springtime in California. I have to drive around with the windows up while humans and dogs hang their arms and heads out the windows... but hey, at least I can breathe now, right? Last year my husband came dangerously close to a hospital visit after he let allergies too far. This year, I did make a quick trip to the emergency clinic which probably could have been avoided had I seen Dr. Mark first, but live and learn, I guess. His bedside manner is awesome, by the way. I went to Dr. Grijnsztein after having a terrible experience with another allergist. His office, Elk Grove Allergy, is located in Elk Grove, but they give allergy shots on Alhambra in East Sac a couple days a week. Dr. Grijnsztein ran a battery of tests on me to determine what I was allergic to. He ran some tests that my previous allergist did not. Dr. Grijnsztein and Katie (who gives the shots) take their time with patients, and aren't trying to rush people through. They are both friendly and listen to their patients. read more

Dr. Grijinsztein and Katie are awesome! well, let me preface that by saying, I'm really picky with doctors. If I don't like you, I usually will find another doctor or stop going altogether. I know these two go beyond my expectations. I'm usually the proactive type, wanting to prevent rather than treat. I try to stay on top of things, instead of waiting till it becomes a huge problem. Since day one, they've been very thorough with me and even helps me get meds that works best for me. They have lots of patience for all my questions (even ones not related to me, but my kids). It's been 3 years now that i've been coming regularly for my allergy shots. I can definitely see and feel the improvement to my health. Thanks! read more

Omg!! When it comes to Dr. Grijnsztein where do I begin? I have nothing but gratitude and admiration for him. Our son's issues started when he was 6 months with small dry patches (eczema) in small areas and soon was all over his body. We did EVERYTHING our pediatrician told us to do (oatmeal baths,cetaphil skin care line,sticky aquaphor creams, all natural skincare lines from local health foods and vitamin stores). It got so bad that Teachers at school suggested that we home schooled our son in fear of him getting staph infections because his skin was so bad. We were finally referred to Dr. Grijnsztein before going to a specialist in the Bay Area. He saw our son, did various allergy test, ran blood work and took his time to explain our son's condition and what we needed to do TOGETHER to help him. Our son was allergic to EVERYTHING!! All meat (except pork), all nuts,all shellfish, dairy, eggs, plus all the environmental allergies. He was one of Dr. Grijnsztein's worst cases. Our son has been under Dr. Grijnsztein's care for over 5 years and he is doing soooo good and his food allergy levels have gone down, he is able to be a normal kid , play outside and not be in a bubble and our son's skin is BEAUTIFUL!! Only because Dr. Grijnsztein and RN Katie are so helpful, understanding, nice and professinal have I been able to stick with my immunization routine over the past year and a half. What a difference it has made on my health. I think my primary care physician misses seeing me every couple months. :) I go to their Mid-Town office by Sutters Fort, which is much more convenient. I love that Katie sends email notices about any changes in office hours and quickly responds to email questions. I highly recommend them! read more

I wish I had the same great experiences of the other reviewers. Not so lucky. I found Dr. Grijnsztein to have very poor follow through on providing promised resources and information for dealing with food allergies. Requested them twice, he promised twice, but never did it. Over the years he seems to have become more and more inattentive and distracted. For example, he bungled my lab orders by ordering outdated tests, it took him forever to admit it, and still wants to argue about it. He has not been familiar with newest research or testing; he simply cannot speak to current issues. He is sub-par in his ability to answer questions in a direct and timely manner. He talks constantly, but does not come to a point, answer the question, or take a position. I've seen this doctor for over three years and I finally got totally fed up with never getting a question answered directly or a professional opinion rendered. Although he did not start out this way, he now gives the very strong impression that he does not take food allergies seriously and would prefer to not deal with them. I've found it worth the time and trouble to find a new allergist. His staff IS great, though. read more
