Add me to the tally of RUINED FEET! Years ago, I saw Robson for a plantar's wart: excellent bedside manner, great education, effective treatment. I had observed folks in the waiting room who had successful bunionectomies: Knowing I'd need it some day, I made sure to remember who I'd call... 2023: it's time for that bunionectomy! My deformity was such that it would require an osteotomy (for alignment correction) and fusion (metatarsal-tarsal) with hardware. My 2nd toe was already so long that it would need shortening to ensure proper foot mechanics (the osteotomy & fusion would make big toe too short/weight bearing would shift to the 2nd toe, which isn't good). "Everything went well," he informed my husband immediately post-op. But the numbness from the surgery never resolved... At each follow-up appt, I mentioned my concern of lack of sensation: He said I must've had neuropathy BEFORE surgery: NO I DID NOT! He got so upset about my complaints (or was that he just didn't believe me?!?) that at next follow-up appt... He took out a straight pin and began poking the areas: I felt NOTHING. He became more and more aggressive, now stabbing my foot repeatedly, until a look of embarrassment came over his face, as he subtly grabbed a tissue to wipe the blood from my foot and the blood drips on the floor that he caused! No, the needle wasn't sterile - it was a straight pin! But, he insisted that he couldn't have cut ALL the nerves because of the pain caused when he grabbed my big toe, pulled (yanked is more accurate) and held it as far away from the other toes as possible. He said I needed to pull it like this regularly. Previously, he had given me instructions for mobilizations to improve extension/bending toe up (only) and NOT for this...yet he insisted that I wasn't working on my foot like I should be (I'm a PT eager to power thru this rehab, so yes I was). The fusion nail through the metatarsal to the tarsal/1st cuneiform protruded to the 2nd cuneiform and began chiseling into it! He claimed that I only mentioned pain in this region AFTER I saw the X-ray (this was in the medical records). Um, this day, he didn't put the X-rays on screen: As he pulled the pictures up, he immediately clicked away, saying, "now's a good time to look at the original x-ray and start talking about hardware removal." While feebly clicking to search, he said, "That's right, our system went through an update, so I can't get to them right now." I asked to at least grab a pic "for posterity's sake." Barely had a chance to snap a pic of this day's x-ray, and no time to look at it until I got home. 2nd toe: The incision was made on the top/dorsum of the foot, right at the base of the 2nd toe. As incisions heal, scar tissue is laid and it contracts... I developed a hammer toe! Dr. Robson said, "I wish we discussed this hammer toe before surgery to take care of it then," to which my reply was "I didn't have a hammer toe before surgery." I still don't have sensation in the ball of my foot, big toe, nor 2nd toe. Can't find/feel the ball of foot when trying to push off with gait. My 3rd toe has become inappropriately helpful with pushing off (& is constantly red). New surgeon didn't want to disparage Dr. Robson: He was super professional. But the truth slipped out over visits: 1. The angle of fusion is such that the big toe/hallux/MTP joint doesn't bend straight (for a normal gait push-off); rather, it bends similarly to how it did before (directionally, as with bunions deformities). No amount of yanking the big toe outward will change the joint alignment (Robson had said I just needed to reshape the meniscal disc). 2. The 1st ray (metatarsal) was fused with the metatarsal head (AKA ball of the foot) ELEVATED, which explains why I can't "find it" when I try to push it down (seated/standing, lifting heel up). It mechanically CANNOT be the push-off bone as it should be. 3. The plate wasn't affixed flush to the bones - hardware removal would be necessary to wear shoes comfortably. 4. A sizable chunk was chiseled out of 2nd cuneiform from the protruding tip of the fusion nail. 5. Hammer toe was an obvious result of the procedure shortening the 2nd toe. Other issues & details being left out because of how long this already is. Bottom line: DO NOT RECOMMEND DR. ROBSON FOR BUNIONECTOMY REQUIRING FUSION. In fact, I've reported him to my insurance company and to the Board. read more

Dr Robson was very thorough when assessing my twisted/torn ankle and we are starting with the easiest treatment first before jumping to more expensive and drastic solutions. Perfect example of a feckless western medical doctor. Every thing he suggested I do I was already doing. Prescribed me useless anti inflammatory nsaids. When I questioned this would simply mask the pain and do nothing to fix my problem he deflected but didn't give an answer. After I looked up my symptoms on google and followed my own suppositions to great effect. A useless western doctor that can't help you at all. Just charge you money. read more

We have seen military doctors for the past two decades so imagine my shock when we found a doctor who actually cares and is amazing at his job. He has incredible bedside manner and his skill is unparalleled. I'm very impressed and can't say enough good things about him. We went in to get my teenager's toenails looked at. She has had chronic ingrown toenails for years. Nobody took it seriously, so I was worried we would have a number of appointments before he decided to remove the problem sides. Not the case. He looked and said let's fix this and then performed the procedure there in his office. The daughter was a trooper but I had to sit down twice. Ha! I had a problem with my big toenail and needed to have it treated. After trying various over the counter treatments and having one doctor prescribe a ridiculously expensive topical med which I declined to buy (It was over 1,000.00 even with my insurance!) I finally made an appointment with Dr. Robson. He took care of the nail (he removed it) and put me on a short course of oral medication. He was incredibly patient with me (I have super sensitive feet) and talked me through the injections to numb up my toe. I felt nothing when he took the nail off and there was minimal discomfort in the days immediately following. I wish I had gone to him sooner! He was personable, kind and funny and very confident. His staff was great. I like that they make later appointments (mine was at 6:15pm). I have zero negative things to say. Highly recommended! read more

I went in with a previously failed foot surgery (from a different dr.) and he spent a great deal of time (even staying after hours on one occasion) going over what went wrong with the previous surgery and what my current options were. He was honest, and knowledgeable and thorough when explaining the pros/cons, risks/ probable benefits of every option out there. His guidance helped my make a decision that I am now very happy with only 4 months after the procedure. He did a beautiful job on a rather intricate and risky procedure. I began seeing Dr. Robson in August of 2014. His staff is always super friendly and punctual. I really appreciate Dr. Robson's bedside manner, as he is very warm and approachable. He performed a surgery on my toe, and it could not have gone better. He answered all of my questions-- even when I had post-op questions in the middle of the night. All of my post-op appointments were a breeze. I was able to schedule early appointments so I could swing by there office on my way to work without being late. Several weeks ago I had surgery to fix injury due to arthritic toe joint - hallux limitus, I suppose is the best way to describe it. Dr. Robson and his team were professional, courteous, and did great in the surgery. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Robson's level of expertise, and entirely at ease in his care. I always get plenty of details of exactly what will be done and exactly what was done, explanations, and what-if scenarios at every appointment with Dr. Robson. He addresses numerous issues and scenarios, and has told me exactly what I need to be doing in my physical therapy to recover. He has given me directions for future care and proper footwear, etc, and I feel much more prepared to take care of myself with regards to feet. I went to Dr. Robson in Feb-2018 and thought that the service was OK... it might have been a little fast of a consult for my taste specially since I ended up paying more than I thought I would. I think $200 should buy me more time and a thorough exam. I felt like he was going through the motions and had barely touched my feet before he was already diagnosing me just by listening to my symptoms. They did a quick X-Ray which was convenient cause they did it right then and there but what wasn't explained is that it would have costs associated with it. (Which you think you would already know but I really didn't think of it in the moment). Ended up being that when I stood up, he noticed that my feet had collapsed arches. Which is when the REAL diagnosis came. You would think that would have been part of the initial exam and I could have probably avoided getting those X-rays that I ended having to pay for. He offered me some injections which also had costs that were not mentioned or discussed. He said that the injections would improve the pain, which it did, and that it would last about 6 weeks, which was right... BUT what he DIDN'T say was that the pain would come back with a vengeance. I am in more pain now than when I went into his office. Then I got the bill of what my insurance didn't cover and have had to pay about $250 in total for this visit which didn't solve my problem and is making me feel worse than I did when I came in. The receptionist weren't very friendly either. They seem kind of bored with life and when I explained how I felt about the bill in a very calm and respectful manner, they were very indifferent and were about the payment and getting the call over with. Dr. Robson was a polite, easy going doctor but I would not return to him even if it was free. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Robson. He is honest, caring and very knowledgeable. I had scar tissue on the top of my foot that I needed removed. Every Dr. I met with around town made it seem like it was a hugely complicated procedure that would need to be mri'd and x-rayed to charge as much as they can. Dr. Robson looked at it with an ultrasound machine on my first visit at no extra charge and had the procedure done the same day! Save yourself the headache and if you have any problems with your feet make him your first visit, you will not regret it. read more

I'm the first to complain about going to the doctor: the enormous hassle of paperwork, the long wait, the doctor that doesn't seem present in the moment etc. I cannot find anything wrong about this guy. Minimal paperwork, friendly staff and no wait! He's a badass! He had this clinical style of just taking care of every problem I mentioned. He's a one man show, so you don't have to tell your story to a bunch of nurses, then to a doctor. I was so pleased that my foot issues were all resolved in one visit and I enjoyed the well of information and light chatter with Dr. Robson. I have taken three of my kids (10-15yrs old) to Dr. Robson, each with a different issue. The staff was friendly and the wait was short. Dr. Robson is very straight forward and got to the bottom of our issue's quickly. I saw Dr. Robson for what I thought was a broken toe. He confirmed it was indeed broken with a quick in office X-ray. I could clearly see the break. Previously I had gone to my general care doctor and his X-ray did not show the break. The X-ray machine Dr Robson has is much more sophisticated than what was used by my general care doctor. Dr. Robson explained the unusual type of break that I had and explained how it would take longer than normal to heal. At the time of this office visit he also explained a condition that I had on another toe and suggested a cure for it. My broken toe is now healed (in the time frame he told me it would be) and my other toe is completely healed after I purchased the 'fix' he suggested. Somebody mentioned before me "watch out for the front desk witches..", and boy, was he on target! To say the staff at Austin Podiatry is dreadful is an understatement; these people are rude, carless and unprofessional; I wonder if Mark Robson is aware of how his patients are being treated. But then again, the staff is a good match for Robson. The day of my appointment I parked on the other side of James Casey and called the office to let them know I was on my way. By the time I arrived Robson was no where to be seen; "he left" they said, even though I had a confirmed appointment and had just called to let them know I was on my way .. 10 minutes! Would they care to say something when I called? Certainly not! Putting oneself in the hands of a doctor who has so little regard for patients would be a mistake. l seldom take the time to write reviews, however, making other patients aware of how poorly one is treated at Austin Podiatry deserves spreading the word. Robson should not be taking care of patients; he should be selling used cars... as he works on the buck and on the clock.
