And Dr Saunders is very knowledgable, thorough and makes sure you understand what may need attention and what doesn't. i have a high risk of cancer and he has caught several areas that left unnoticed would have been severe. Dr. Mark Saunders is one of the nicest doctors that either my husband or I have ever been to! My husband has had many operations and procedures for skin cancer in his office and I have had a few also. The office help at the front desk tried so hard to accommodate us in every way. We were both handicapped last year and the office help made sure both of us made it to our car safely with their help on every visit out there. And there were many many visits. It almost incomprehensible to read these critiques. I can only account for our experiences. Dr. Saunders is expert at what he does and has been wonderful and personable in our experiences with him. My folks have been seeing Dr Saunders for years. He seems to be a fine dermatologist and we never had any problem with him as a physician. He explains things and seems to give good care. Our beef with him is on the business end of the practice. My mom missed an appointment (her fault - got the wrong date) and they charged her $90. Wouldn't let her make another appointment until she paid. She reluctantly paid. A year later, she had another appointment for a Tuesday. A week before, my uncle passed away. Funeral arrangements weren't made known to us until late Friday. We had to travel out of town for the funeral and wouldn't be back in time for her appointment. But his office was closed. So a family member called to cancel her appointment on Monday morning as soon as they opened. They still charged her for the missed appointment - because she hadn't given 48 hours notice! We explained the situation - no mercy. Receptionist said we should have called and left a message on the machine. (As if that would have been received any earlier than the Monday morning call.) Needless to say, she's not paying and we've gone elsewhere for care. read more

I was driving my grandfather 80 miles to Traverse City from West Branch, and we figured that we would be about 15 minutes late to his appoinment for a melanoma. We called ahead and informed the office of the delay, and the receptionist said that the doctor may not see him because we projected being 15 minutes late. The receptionist basically was arguing with my elderly grandfather saying that there was no guarantee that the doctor would see him because of the lateness, and he should reschedule the appointment. We ended up being 7 minutes late, and he had to use the restroom after the hour-and-a-half trip there. My grandfather said to the receptionist that we were early, meaning we were earlier than the 15 minutes that we expected to be late, and the receptionist proceeded to directly correct him saying that we were 10 minutes late (even though we were only 7 minutes late). My grandfather was upset that they were giving him grief for being marginally late to the office. There was nobody waiting to see the doctor either. The doctor also gave him grief for needing to use the restroom and not seeing him until 11 minutes after the scheduled appointment. I could not believe that the customer service was this poor, or that they stay in business when they clearly have no empathy for their patients. It's Northern Michigan for heaven's sake; there happened to be a single lane road due to construction and both directions of traffic have to wait for an extended period of time. I still cannot believe that after 20+ years of being Dr. Saunders' patient that he would be treated with such disregard and a lack of understanding for our situation. I found it incredible that Dr. Saunders was included in a Top 20 Dermatologist article hanging in his waiting room, albeit the article was from 1998, nearly 20 years ago. I don't care how educated you are in medicine and dermatology, you shouldn't treat your patients like garbage. Do not waste your time with this doctor or his office staff. P.S. Same problem as others have had. If you have an appointment on a Monday and get sick on a Saturday how do you give them 48 hours notice?? Called as soon as they opened on Monday morning and was told there would be a 95 dollar missed appointment fee. Will be going elsewhere for a dermatologist !!!! read more

Today I was 9 minutes late. I drive 65 miles to get there. Today it was all ice for the entire drive. Traffic was backed up on M72 because of an overturned car. I called enroute to tell them I was running late. I was 9 minutes late! The "Good Dr." Told me he could say hi to me and only charge me 9 dollars instead of a miss appt. charge but not have my exam. This guy is a jerk. I've been a paient for at least 20 yrs. and never have been late of missed an appt. And I get treated in such rude manner shows that this guy is out of touch with reality. Some things happen beyond our control. By the way, you will see his staff in a constant state of flux. Nobody stays with him very long. Stay away from this place. read more
