The only thing that I could do during these heartburn attacks was to sit up, browse the internet or watch television. Some nights I threw up, some nights I did not. Finally, I went to a primary care physician who thought it might be GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). She wrote a prescription for a proton inhibitor antacid and said that I should see a specialist if the drugs didn't help. After a month, there was no improvement, so I searched for a specialist. Having no idea of what gastroenterologist might be good, I relied on Seattle Magazine's top doctor list, which led me to Dr. Robert Wohlman. My first impression was positive. Dr. Wohlman examined my abdomen and took some notes regarding my symptoms. He prescribed Nexium, a different proton inhibitor from the one I had been taking. Another month went by, still no improvement. I went back, this time Dr. Wohlman doubled the Nexium dosage and setup an endoscopy appointment. Dr. Wolhman also performed the endoscopy. However, the endoscopy and stomach tissue biopsy found no abnormalities. Thank God I didn't have cancer. But I still had frequent nightly heartburn. Now I was getting so afraid of the pain, that I was reluctant to eat anything. A few more months went by, and after an especially severe and prolonged throwing up episode, I went back. For this appointment, I came prepared with questions inspired from researching gastroenterological diseases. For reasons unknown, Dr. Wohlman prescribed nortriptyline, a drug primarily used to treat major depression, and sometimes, albeit rarely, irritable bowel syndrome. At this point, I had lost all confidence in Dr. Wohlman's ability and motivation to determine the cause of my ailment. But I thought he could still be helpful to setup further diagnostic tests. Fingers crossed, literally. I already had an inconclusive endoscopy and didn't want a colonoscopy. So I thought perhaps I should get an ultrasound. To me my symptoms were similar to gallstones except for the pain between the shoulder blades and pain under the right shoulder. So for the next visit, I described to Dr. Wohlman my "new" symptoms of shoulder blade pain and right shoulder pain. I practically spelled out "GALLSTONES" to him. Subsequently, his nurse setup the ultrasound appointment. Lucky for me, the ultrasound showed gallstones, and I had my gallbladder removed that same week. Three tiny incisions later, my gallbladder and heartburn were now history. I've been heartburn free for over 4 years now. I'm saddened that Dr. Wohlman didn't spend enough time on me as a patient to figure out what was wrong. I feel that he was too eager to simply prescribe medication. Perhaps that is just what the medical establishment is like nowadays.

In only one visit and one follow-up appointment, which she came into the office on Christmas Eve to give (!!), Dr. Bobovski resolved an allergy/immune issue that four doctors, two allergists and a dermatologist couldn't, over the course of 18 months and several dangerous prescriptions/injections, couldn't. A food allergy test! who'da thunk it? My insurance covered the appointment and blood work, and although I did pay out of pocket for the food allergy panel ($85) and for the vitamins I purchased, I'd take that cash payment anyday over a life of free but questionably safe and clearly ineffective prescriptions that covered up my symptoms but didn't help the problem whatsoever, or teach me anything about my body. If I hadn't taken the "radical" plunge into naturopathy (the quotes are a JOKE), I would have taken steroid injections for goodness knows how long, and never learned about my semi serious food allergies that 23 years of cluelessness turned into an eventual allergy and weakened immune system. Two years after seeing her for the first time, I have never had another allergic reaction, and my gut has re-built itself after 23 years of abuse (poor gut!). Dr. Bobovski has respect for her patients and their sense of their own body. She's open about the benefits and limitations about naturopathy. I've never felt uncomfortable for a second in the waiting area (which has great magazines, btw) or naked in a gown on her table. I have never for a second felt rushed into or out of her office -- the level of focus and devotion to each and every issue or question you have is unreal for a doctor at a busy office. Dr. Bobovski and this lovely facility not only fixed the problem I went there for, but helped me to learn about my body from my body, and utterly rejuvenated my faith in medicine and doctors. The first red flag appeared when the ND wanted me to designate him as my PCP. Who does this? RED RED FLAG. The first meeting should be your interview with your care provider and see if it is a good fit. Customer service is very very poor with their staff. All they do is read a script. They don't listen to you. I was most likely on some list to rid me. This is a trend in many medical places. I feel this place misrepresents itself in a manipulative way to lure lonely people who want to be part of something. Beware. They try to suck you into spending money at this place. People are lonely these days, and they manipulate a person into spending money to feel loved and cared. It's a business. BEWARE. An ND has no power to order real medical tests as I also found out from a medical testing center staff stating I need a MD to put in an order. THEY CANNOT ACCEPT THEIR ORDER from an ND. I wrote a review on Google and they replied with false statements. When a place has to write a long, lengthy personal reply - it's a red flag. They should try to find out how to do "better". "please call the office to discuss" would be norm. Nobody apologized. It was so bizarre. I do think they drop a lot of patients. Why do they have a script? I believed in the Naturopathic way to solve many ailments, but after this I don't think so. They don't have any pull to even have you go get medical tests done- except bloodwork. Beware.
