Market & Co. has been kicking around for over three years. As usual, it takes me a while to get with the program. Better late than never. This program suits me! Roughly a decade ago, it wasn't unusual for me to visit Newmarket and Upper Canada Mall. I'd do the run on weekends. Market & Co. is where Target used to be. It's essentially a cross between a food hall and a market. I love the combination of grabbing food (it was takeout only while we were in lockdown number whatever and now dining in is allowed) and buying items, such as pepperoni and popcorn, at various vendors. What brought me to Market & Co. at long last? Patties Express. It opened up recently and I am addicted to its patties. I have been to its location at the Food District in Mississauga a couple of times. I love their patties so much that I was thrilled to hear that York region has a location. As much as I love Food District, I love Market & Co. more. It would be perfect if Pie Commission were here, but you can't have everything. I felt like I was at the best market with cool items. Vince's Market has these huge bags of popcorn. I have a lot of popcorn at home, but a bag was the length of my body pillow. I could so cuddle that bag and snack from it while watching a hockey game or a movie. I've dropped by Market and Co. a couple of times so far. The first time was during lockdown. The entrance on the left when you face the main doors heading in was available. The doors on the right were locked. Now that lockdown restrictions have started to lift again, both sets of doors are open. You can also dine inside with proof of vaccination. It was definitely more lively here last weekend. I have been to Patties Express twice. I love the patties from this place so much. I don't get tired of eating them. You have the option of eating them hot (they are perfect for a meal or a snack) or you can get frozen ones to reheat in the oven when you get home. I am now a fan of The Alley. It was my first time ordering bubble tea in Newmarket. I also had a better experience at this location than The Alley in Mississauga three years ago. Great staff. Yummy bubble tea. Kibo Sushi is amazing. You can order takeout, dine in, or fetch food from Kibo Market. I ended up getting inari, chicken gyoza, a bulgogi onigiri, and horjicha tea from this market. The gyoza were warm and super crispy. You can also get snacks, ramen, and more. It's amazing. I also got a chocolate croissant from Amadeus Patisserie. OMG! Deliciously flaky and delicious. I am still dreaming about it. If you do need to use the washrooms, they are in the far right corner when you enter from the parking lot. They are next to Amadeus Patisserie. The women's washroom was clean both times. The soap, faucet, and dryer are located by the sink and use motion detection to work. There are so many other eateries and shops that I still need to visit and explore. I like this place so much that I don't mind casually heading north to visit. You can hit the mall through Market & Co. if you aren't in a food coma. I am thrilled that I can enter this heavenly food place and not hit a large mall during a pandemic. There is lots of parking. The parking situation is weird when you enter from Yonge Street. You have no choice but to hit a three-way intersection to get to Market & Co. It's your own path to get here. Exercise patience, especially when you have a driver in front of you who had no idea what to do once he was at the stop sign. Ugh! I'll be back. Market & Co is a nice addition to Upper Canada Mall! Love the vibe and having all these food vendors under one roof! You can get hot food, desserts, drinks, uncooked food and even a full seat down meal! Price might be on the pricier side but nice for the experience. I just wish there is more varieties as 2 out of the 3 full service restaurants are Italian. Worth dropping by and checking it out when you are in Newmarket! read more

Very nice food hall that adds a downtown vibe but in the suburbs. Amano, union chicken are the ones that we have inside the union station. Both are nice restaurant that I have always returned to at Union station. The addition sit down restaurant at this foodhall is the MidiCi, The Neapolitan Pizza Company. This restaurant is from LA and finally a franchise that we get before Vancouver. First is Canada. The over baked pizza was nice, basically you line up and place your order and they give you a number and you sit down and wait. The truffle cream base was nicely done. Moving along to the tenants inside, it ranges from soup, to Pier87 Fish Market & Grill where you can sit down to eat oysters. I also sat down at the Seed to Sausage Meatery where we ordered a beer and had these really good bacon ends! Awesome snacks. There are other items on the menu that you can order. The Wine shop and tasting room had samples, the cider was so nicely done and refreshing. You can't get from the LCBO. Around 4 something per bottle, you can buy a pack of 4, of course I did that to take some home. Overall, a lovely way to end my weekend. I will be back! read more

Market & Co is a spacious new food hall that opened up recently at Upper Canada Mall. The concept includes some established and better known restaurants such as: -Midici the Neopolitan Pizza Company (the first outpost in Canada, originally from California) -Sweet Jesus ice cream, Starbucks (which has some reserve options) -Union Chicken and Amano Kitchen (both also present at Union Station) -Amadeus Patisserie (of Thornhill fame) Local businesses such as a local spelt goods bakery, a butcher, juicery, florist, a specialty soup place, seafood vendor and local grocery store called Vince's are also located in this space. They also had a wine vendor specializing in Trius and Wayne Gretzsky wines, and they were offering samples of some of the wines. I like the bright space and overall energetic feel of the food hall. There is also an open kitchen space in the middle of the market called Kitchen & Co which also serves as a demonstration area for cooking classes and that can be rented for events with capacity for up to "60 foodies". We tried Midici for lunch, bought chips from the chippery, and cookies from Bakery 360. The desserts at Amadeus Patisserie were gorgeous but the prices were fairly steep. It was busy on a Saturday when we went, especially around lunchtime. If you can, I'd suggest going earlier on a Saturday to beat the crowd. There was for me a noticeable absence of ethnically diverse cuisine. There are fewer restaurants here than at Assembly Chefs Food Hall downtown so options are more limited. Nonetheless it is really nice to have another foodie destination in York Region. 3.5 stars. read more

If you're visiting Upper Canada Mall, you may notice that Target looks far less "target-y" and far more hip/cool these days. Fully embracing all the charm and style of popular "cool" neighbouhoods, Market & Co is a big reclaimed wood beacon on the face of UCM calling towards those longing for big city neighbourhood living... in a mall? Entering they've done the food hall and market concept proud. Plenty of shops from a wide variety of best in class shops from across the province. Sausages, Macrons, Soups, Sauces, seafood and even some random stuff you wouldn't expect to see, but somehow it all works. Even the anchor restaurants are pretty decent. Union Chicken, meh, from experiences at their Sherway location, and Sweet Jesus (guess this is still summer 2017?) but the other pasta and pizza spots seem promising. We visited a pizza bistro style the Neapolitan pizza co. You walk up to a sign that says wait here. Then they ask to go to a cashier and pay for the meal with tip Before you sit down or get served. We ordered the pshuto pizza and the pesto pizza and a market meat plate. As the waitress brings the meat plate... she drops 5-6 pieces of meat off the plate onto the floor. She does apologize for the mistake then offers to replace the dropped meat... she never does. There was no service what so ever after that My god this was ridiculous. Our was 70.00 dollars And the meat plate was half emptied when she dropped the meat. The pesto pizza was soaked in olive oil we rang out the pizza to try and eat it. This place is sad...: steer clear of this one. read more

This is a nice addition to Upper Canada Mall. It looks like it's built for foodies and there are quite a bit of variety of shops. I think I tried most of the restaurants there include Amano, union chicken, MidiCi... I would still need to try the Meatery shop where they can cook the steak u picked and serve to you right away.. The only thing that I noticed is that there is only one coffee shop and that's starbucks. As a shopping area with food being the theme, my opinion is having another specialty coffee shop that's specialized in drinks like espresso would be good addition... read more

Went to Union Chicken with my kids. The service was top notch. The server came by and brought drinks for the kids with cherries on top. We decided to try the chicken poutine and the wings. The chicken poutine was really good. It was a fair portion of fries, but had ample amount of chicken. The gravy was a little peppery for the kids, but overall it was very good. The chicken wings were too small and were $1.50 each which is very pricy. I was expecting something larger. Definitely skip the wings. What took my eyes was the fried chicken the table next to me ordered. It was awesome. I would go back to check that out for sure. Man I wish I had seen that before I ordered. read more

Market & Co. is a beautiful place. Every is well designed, clean, and shiny new. But for us, it was lacking. Mainly in choice. They bill themselves as a foodie place, but choice is very limited. We didn't count, but there's maybe a dozen vendors in total, several of those being restaurants or cafes. The food vendors have very limited selections. The meat vendor probably has the most, but were missing several things we'd expect (smoked sausages, ground lamb, pork belly). Everything seemed to be good quality, however. The fish monger was also well appointed, with good quality stock, but also suffered from limited selection. No cheese shop, though the butcher had some. The fresh produce vendor was the most disappointing. Given their small space (and high prices) one would expect beautiful produce, but it was the same generic food terminal fare you'd see at any given grocery store. Pre-packaged "gourmet" foods were abundant everywhere. Packaged fancy salts, sauces, condiments, and so on. Interesting I suppose, but not at the expense of more fresh produce, fish, meat, cheese etc. There is definitely an argument that it's good to have a beautiful, quality place where people in the NM area can get excited about food. But given the selection elsewhere in the GTA, it wasn't a good fit for us. Too limited, too pricy. read more

I've only ever hit this place up for the Sweet Jesus ice cream. Beyond that, it's a lot of the same stuff again and again. I was expecting a market with lots of unique things (not just food), but it's like the regular food court with higher prices and less selection. It seems all to carefully manufactured to give the impression of a Toronto market that grew organically, but it's just a little too polished. read more

This was a place that we were reminded of the Chelsea market in NYC. Similar idea if it's structure. There is a soup - all vegan, gluten free you name it! Really good!! Highly recommend the lentils. We also got Lobster poutine and surprisingly they packed up so much lobster in that bowl. I wish it had more variety of better restaurants but overall not bad read more

A much needed revamped space for upper Canada mall. It's so nice to walk around the area with different restaurants and pick up some groceries at the seafood place, meat place or Vince's supermarket all at the same time. Yes, it's really nice, but $45 for a small/medium sized pistachio cake at the dessert place? $5 for an apple turnover at the bakery? Never! I did end up spending $30 for a baguette, sangria and fruit tray, drink and dairy from three different stores, but this won't happen often. Not just expensive... wayyy overpriced. Vince's seemed almost normal though, and I can't speak to the eateries there, they seemed nice. No idea about the pricing there though. read more

Every time I walk through here I think, "What's the point?". I feel like it's Upper Canada's attempt to attract more tourists but it feels unnecessary to have in a mall. It has a decent selection of restaurants (I.e. union chicken, pizza, etc...) but why don't they just add those to the food court instead of filling up a huge space (which could be used for more clothing/shoe stores). And the food market itself is WAY too overpriced. read more

Is this Newmarket? Such a fancy spot, you would think you're somewhere trendy downtown. Such an amazing and diverse group of shops serving everything from lobster rolls, to fresh chips and of course my fav - sweet Jesus ice cream. All I had was the ice cream, so can't comment on the price or quality of the other items. But, I can't wait to go back and try more. Such a wonderful experience, which it appears is what malls are looking to do more of in the future. Great job Upper Canada Mall!!! read more

My husband and I and our kids just had dinner at the Neapolitan pizza co. It was fantastic! Sure it's a little unconventional with how you order and pay upfront, but that adds to its modern character and the taste of the pizza more than makes up for their 'difference' of a typical restaurant. We had 4 different types of pizza and they were all delicious! Thin personal sizing doesn't make me too full or guilty eating it all. Then we walked around and I was very impressed with all the vendors. I will definitely be visiting on a regular basis. read more

Mercato by Midici. Please people . The process to line up is worse than getting an colonoscopy. Really? This isn't a 5 star restaurant. It's pizza!! Plus they promote gluten free but there's cross contamination. Why bother if you are celiac. Insane. read more
