I was curious about the acclaimed selection of ethnic foods, but was also drawn here to fact-check the Karens and their "LOL poor people" complaints. There was an impressive array of Portuguese sausages and New England-focused seafood like scup and steamers. I couldn't partake in these cooking-focused offerings but I did pick up Portuguese chocolates and Little Rhody and Granny Squibb's iced teas. The cheese ends appeared to be a great deal at $1.73 but realistically I wasn't up for eating 0.87 of a pound of cheese at the hotel. I came here by bus and offer no opinion about the parking lot but regret the minutes of my life reading about terrible drivers who downgraded the store primarily because of other bad drivers. I love this market basket. I live in Fall River and like that one too but I have to admit this one is superior. So easy to get on and off the highway right by it too. They have a pretty big hot food section here. Hot soup and clam chowder. Love getting the clam chowder in the winter. So good. Everyone here has always been friendly and MB prices are always reasonable. I think the further drive for me to go to this one is worth it on the weekends. read more

Everytime I go to this market basket the parking lot is full of pit heads getting high in their cars and a bunch of people who don't know how to park. Theres always people smoking weed on the bench where the cabs park to pick people up. It's a big glass window there so the workers can see them and never say anything they have police and plain close security that Stand around and no one asks them to leave. It's disgusting to have to smell so much weed and cigarettes when I go there. It's just a very ghetto place to shop for groceries and I only go if I really need to. I go to mkt basket in new bedford often. I have never had a problem with buying moldy food from them.. ever. they have a large selection of items and their prices are lower than shaws and stop n shop. they also always have enough registers open and baggers. the 4 stars is mostly because I don't always feel safe in the parking lot ( the area is kind of rough) and some of the customers that shop there leave a lot to be desired and can be quite ignorant (but not much can be done about that). as far as the merchandise, prices and employees that's all 5 stars. read more

They don't make much sense when it comes to new products. Bring in something new, watch it sell out very quickly and never order it again even when customers ask for it repeatedly. Bring in things that take forever to sell out and use those as the store staple supply... makes no sense but is the commonality in this store. Maybe they go off what other stores in the chain sell well, but every other grocery store I've been to works by customer sales not chain usage. Each store is different by area, each one Should cater to its clientele. Corporate would make better profits if they did this simple thing. I usually stop in for some groceries after working on my sailboat locally or after sailing out of Marion , MA. I usually focus on meats and fresh fish. A couple days ago I let a young station attendant convince me to but some fresh snapper "Haddock"? I asked what this meant he said young Haddock, and it's very tender! It looked decent but I thought it odd that the Haddock skin was removed? Now I know why it was removed, because it was not Haddock, it was somewhat funky in that the texture was not creamy white like Haddock and the flesh was Pollock like...it was gross! It really pisses me off that they cheat and play games with consumers and I will complain to the Food and Drug Administration! The same goes with Top Sirloin, a very loosely used term in supermarkets cheating consumers on meats. I have been an exec chef all my life and I know when these parasites are playing games. Nice and clean. Great selection. Plenty of employees visible so you don't have to wander aimlessly from aisle to aisle in search of, like you're at Home Depot. Only downside, I guess, is that it's such a popular grocery store, that it gets pretty crowded at times. Best to go during off times like in the morning or later at night. After shopping at a few different Market Baskets in MA and NH, I have to say that this particular location holds a special place in my heart. The reason why I am a fan of this particular store is because every time I walk in this store I know that I will find a ton of different Portuguese items. These range from their extensive aisle of Portuguese goods to the Pasteis de Nata in the bakery! The other great thing about this store is that it is always well stocked and it always has a ton of great meats. I know that when I come into this store I will also be able to find some unique cuts of meat such as pigs ears and tripe. The staff here is always incredibly polite, and when I was checking out this afternoon I had a blast taking to the cashier and the employee bagging. They had me laughing so hard at one point that the person in line behind me was getting agitated. This store is definitely the place to shop in town and there is no way that any of the other chain stores can beat the prices at this place! read more

It's funny how as time goes on it changes your perspective. I remember this place being unorganized, with harsh lighting, and no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It still has the harsh lighting, but everything else I remember was incorrect! I was in love with the fact that they have vegetarian items there that I haven't seen at their competitors (different flavors of tofurky, boca and the like). They are the only chain the I know of that carries my new favorite obsession Cape Cod Café frozen pizza. And did I mention it was cheap? Yes, there are some elements of danger there, some less than desirables that hang out front and the like, so just keep your wits about you and you'll be fine. p.s. The bakery staff went above and beyond to make my son's birthday cake amazing with normally needing a week to make the cake (Being a 2 tier cake case) they. Understood my situation and made mine amazing within a two day frame and a dozen gorgeous tasty Cupcakes they have wonderful decorators that go above the normal grocery store i went to shop and shop with a similar request 1st because i was closer at the moment and was told they don't do that they don't decorate with frosting ect and that was that. Market basket staff makes you really feel like your being herd and they help with all your needs. I will always go to them for all my cake needs. read more

Time and again, moldy yogurt, berries and hummus that is still supposed to be good according the expiration date- huge mold blooms in several brands. I stopped going back to return bad items. Always check the dates too - I bought something that was 2 months expired. I just stopped shopping at Market Basket. I'm willing to pay more at other stores not to bring home moldy food and constantly having to return purchases. Their produce and meat is pretty sad lately. Well there is no doubt that the New Bedford Market Basket is one of the finest stores in all of New Bedford in 2020. The place is clean, has tons of service and has always been about as well stocked as can possibly be imagined. They carry several brands of locally made Portuguese rolls which no other Market Basket does. Their counters for the grill and pizza and sub shops are as outstanding as can be imagined. They truly make GREAT pizzas here, and the price is simply to die for. read more

My family and I have gone to market basket for all our food shopping needs for as long as I have lived and I would like to say that most of the employees are of great speed and efficiently which makes sense why they have the job they do. I would give this a 5 star review however if you closely read my last statement I use the word "most" when talking about the employees and I would just like to clarify to the higher management of market basket that some of the employees didn't read the handbook or attend the trainings as I was being served by a cashier and they scanned duplicate items individually instead of the procedurally scanning the same item for the rest of the duplicates. This is a minor issue however I feel it should be addressed as it is something that if let slipped through the cracks could allow for more inefficiencies to be slipped through the cracks. With a deflated economy pushing prices everywhere (ESPECIALLY food prices, which we are all feeling the burden of) through the roof, this Market Basket arrives as a welcome relief to the New Bedford area. Conveniently located near exits for rt. 195, across from the Acushnet River, this supermarket is a huge addition to the Wamsutta Mills area. As a foodie, I particularly enjoy the selection of fresh and unusual produce. I was able to find international fruit here that has not been readily available at any of the local grocery chains such as Shaw's or Stop N' Shop. There is a sushi counter (I have only tried 1 sample, but it was very good), a restaurant for patrons near the entrance with free wi-fi, and an extensive bakery counter. I have already used their desserts for a party and they were a hit. Their cakes are extremely affordable and again, very fresh. I also utilize the seafood counter which is stocked with an abundant and knowledgeable staff. The main appeal of Market Basket is the low pricing. This store has many of the same items as other grocery stores but at a noticeably lower price. Overall, my experience at this particular store has been enjoyable: the staff is friendly and helpful, the prices and choices cannot be beat, and their specialty items (sushi, bakery goods, etc) are yummy and fresh. read more

New Beige.... Sorry for my friends from there but there's a reason you've moved out. It's a new store, gorgeous, flowing and packed with merchandise, customers and employees. Maybe it's the employees that make this place a "not to quick to come back" here location. First off, worry about your car in the lot, it's New Bedford after all. Secondly, if you like to shop, stand in lines both at the cafe and at the register, be prepared to hear the dribble drabble drone of the idiotic speaking complaints that the employees have about management. Yes, they don't want to work the hours, they can't work the hours, they're pressuring me to work the hours blah blah blah.. stuff that I just don't give a crud to listen to anymore. The managers are ineffective, lazy and could careless. The store is a gold mine for the company but I expect the customers will get tired of what happens when you're open for a couple of years (or your car gets broken into or damaged in the lot). Just an update from my review. The Bakery still kicks azz! As does the food market. The front end crew smile now and that's a plus. The customers, for the most part, are rude and inconsiderate. I've heard them talk to the employees and I don't understand why the employee tolerate that kind of crap. Then, if a customer doesn't get their way or for the most case, wants to be a dick, they will lie to management about the employee in order to get the employee in trouble. Now to my favorite part of MB, the Fish Department. I am glad to see Pete, Louise and Lara are still there. They are the best!!! The choices are great and better than the fish houses in NB. I've dealt with some of the other employees at the Fish Department and all I can say is "eh!" Not one of them impresses me and they seem like they just want to do something else. Watch out for that guy named Jason. He likes to throw things when he gets pissed, especially knives! read more

However I recently moved to the NBMA area and there is no natural food stores around here :( I have tried all the supermarkets in the area, and though some form of natural food store is needed in this area, Market Basket has 2 things going for it that I really like and I will only shop here. They clearly mark Organics and keep them as separate as possible in the produce sections. They clearly mark naturals and organics in all the other parts of the store. They are OFTEN on sale! AND everyone here is super friendly! We also love the fruit tarts from the bakery, and the fresh hot baguettes when you walk in are a weakness of mine when shopping hungry. read more

I LOVE this supermarket! I'd never been to a Market Basket before in my life and was excited to go here as soon as I heard it opened. The store is beautiful, big and bright. The selection of different brands, sizes, and foods is extensive and, very much welcomed by me! The bakery has some of the best breads I've ever had from a supermarket (Continent Bakery in Swansea and Vienna Bakery in Barrington are still my fave bakeries though!) and the sushi counter makes some fresh & delicious - not to mention AFFORDABLE - sushi. Prices are relatively low but for smart coupon shoppers like myself, you will sometimes find that you can actually get some items cheaper at Shaw's or Stop & Shop due to Market Basket's double coupon policy - they don't double them! I give MB a score of 4/5 stars due to the location being so far from home (I live in Swansea), the fact that it's packed almost every time I go ( no matter what time of day or DOTW), and the way the parking lot is set up. read more

The combination of selection and prices is largely without peer in the area, with lots of Latin, Caribbean, and Portuguese ingredients that seem quite exotic to the average Yankee. In the produce section you'll find such unfamiliar items as cassava, plantains, jackfruit, sugarcane, true yams (not sweet potatoes), taro, and salsify, among other novelties. The dairy selection is larger than Stop & Shop's and much larger than Shaw's, with plenty of semi-obscure Greek, Middle Eastern, European, and Latin American cheeses. Their range of prepared takeaway foods likewise stands comfortably above the average, with their sushi in particular being quite good by New England supermarket standards. The one problem that keeps Market Basket from being my go-to market is the crowds. Outside of very early or very late hours, it's seemingly always packed to the gills, usually with locals pushing overflowing shopping carriages around as slowly as humanly possible. And there's no self-check, so you have no choice but to queue up behind such ponderously slow-moving shoppers. So it's good if you're doing a big shopping trip and have time to spare, but if you're just grabbing a few things and have places to be, then it can be a challenge. read more

Never tried asking the yogurt manager to have Oui yogurt four pack here though. Wonder if they accommodate ? Should try ! But still a very good store. Oh and the bakery is beautiful. First-time Market Basket adventurer. The parking lot is packed. People are circling the lot looking for a spot...by people, I mean lines of cars circling like sharks! Plus they have to navigate the snow banks and the walkers and the double-parkers and the stop-and-droppers. Inside they have it all. Including rows of checkout counters that are staffed! Hallelujah! So even though it's packed, people are getting in and out efficiently. The prices are reasonable. You can get everything here. I really enjoyed the huge produce section with the great root selections. I scored cassava bread which I only know about from following a paleo/primal diet. Lots of other stuff caught my eye....nuts, meats, cheeses, etc. This was a quick visit for me but long enough for me to know you need a strategy to shop here. Mine would be early weekdays. Market Basket definitely has the best prices around in terms of grocery stores. Especially natural and vegan foods. They also have a great selection of vegetarian friendly foods. Which is a huge plus for me. However, the store itself is a bit disorganized. It's weird to navigate, and they always seem to be stocking shelves. I was there today on a super busy Friday, and there were carts full of items being stocked. I understand things get low, but the carts block shelves, and some aisles, and make the already crowded store difficult to get through. I think a better management system of when they stock would be better. read more

Prepare for battle. Yes, you have to have that mindset if you are going shopping here. I recently visited in the middle of the day on a Tuesday. There were over 15 registers going, all with lines. Yes, I counted. Insanity. The parking lot as well as the aisles are always full. Why deal with this madness? The price and selection can not be beat in this area.
