Years ago I would go shooting at Markley's about once per month. The attitude behind the counter seemed to depend on the day, but I didn't go for the attitude. What do you expect? It's a gun range and store. They were pros, the shop was clean and packed with merchandise, and the service was efficient. Sometimes you'd run into someone genuinely decent, other times needlessly impatient, but nothing downright laughable. It was all good. I guess times have changed, and the other reviews I've seen reflect that. Not a big deal, really. But a little tip for business owners: it's not up to me to make your sale for you. Upon going in, I was ignored by the two gentleman behind the counter. I was looking for specific guns and was unable to find them. I go up to them and they looked at me as if I had interrupted their conversation. I asked about the guns they had out and the ones behind the counter. The gentleman looks at me and asked in a judgmental tone "what are you even looking for?" I tell him what guns I was looking for, he looks at me, and tells his partner the gun I was looking for while laughing. The conversation which ensued resulted in the man behind the counter ultimately laughing at my gun selection and ultimately stating I wasn't able to purchase them. called to ask if a gun was legal to transfer and purchase in CA, they said yes send it over. They held it 10 days. on the day of pick up they told me they couldn't sell it in ca. the owner was who I spoke with when ordering. another time made a purchase, gun had a recall, they were supposed to fix and call me back. they never did. I had to call for a refund 6 months later. called to ask about a transfer they said they could do it, over an hour before closing time and they decided they didn't feel like staying to do paperwork. find another gun shop. this one is a waste of time read more

Inventory sucks, they hardly have anything unless it's on consignment (used products that owner is trying to sell) and the range is not a good one either. More than half the time it's closed, and when they are open, they don't let you shoot from holster or double tap.... How are people with CCW's suppose to train when the rules don't let you improve ? Markleys was top notch before previous owners Scotty and Ward sold the place to the current owners. There used to be wall to wall product, now the place is empty and unkept. The gun range is closed "due to repairs" but most likely due to laziness and incompetence. Markley's has changed their hours since the Covid lockdowns. They're now open only Thursdays thru Monday from 12-5pm. That said, the range is in great shape and the attendants very helpful to answer questions. Getting a lane was quick. I guess Zero Stars isn't an option. Drove nearly one hour after checking the website to verify hours of operation. Arrived to an almost empty store (very little merchandise) and were told the range has been closed for MORE THAN 2 YEARS ... no mention of that on the website. Clearly an owner/manager that doesn't care enough to maintain the website with very basic business information ... makes me wonder what else they do not maintain. We all understand COVID and its effects on staffing, supply chain. What it does not effect is the owner/manager to keep customers informed. This has been an utter a failure. Nobody knows when they are open, when or what parts- the silence is deafening. Update the answering message on the phone. Update the website and Facebook each week- if only to say "no change". Let us know the obstacles and how we can help. Make it look like you give a rat's about your customers. Going dark with no notice, no ETA to reopen, do not inspire warm and fuzzy feelings. Markley's is a bada$$ place! I come here often to go practice on my shooting techniques. Great place to come whether you are expert or beginner! I really like this place because if I don't feel like bringing my own guns here to shoot, I can always rent one of the many selections that they have to offer. Only $7 per gun rental, can't beat that. Plus you don't have to worry about cleaning the gun after you're done shooting. But believe me, best time to come is around 11:30am and wait for them to open at noon. You'll find parking if you come early. It gets busy really fast, and most of the time, you'll be put on a waiting list, so get there early so you can get a lane to shoot. They just did a remodel lately too, and it looks pretty nice, come check them out if you are around the area! read more

So the bestie and I are a little bit random when we go on vacation. During the conversations of "what are we going to do?" she said, "let's go to a shooting range". I did my do diligence and yelped places and after checking out a few other places I finally found this one which seemed perfect. We should up and the bestie was nervous because this was something she had never done before. I was a bit nervous because it had been over a decade since I fired a gun and wasn't even sure I was going to like doing it anymore. Before I talk about the experience, let's talk about John B. He's the guy who helped us out, answered all of our questions, showed the bestie how to handle the gun, load the magazine, and help her get comfortable. He was awesome! So informative and patient and just a good guy. (John, thanks for all of your help!!) Anyway, it turns out I still like firing guns and the bestie, with all her nerves, was pretty badass! The experience was great and it was awesome to be present for the first time she fired a weapon. The other bonus was that it wasn't that expensive. $81 and some change for the two of us and that included the gun, the ammo, the targets, the ear muffs, the glasses, and the lane rental. If you're brand new to guns I would recommend coming here! This is definitely a range that I would return to! read more

I absolutely love this place! Markley's is located in a semi-residential area, but it feels very safe and is easy to find. Upon entering, the building is very spacious and has quite a bit to look at... I could stare at the Glocks and XD's for far too long if I came to purchase a firearm! Each staff member I've met has been welcoming and all seem incredibly knowledgeable about everything firearm. I've never felt 'sketchy' or concerned while in the building, and I personally haven't seen many shady people while at Markley's. I've been to other ranges where I've overheard the staff yelling at customers for taking selfies with a potentially loaded firearm on the showroom floor! I don't think this would EVER happen here... My favorite part of this place is most definitely the indoor range. The first thing you'll notice walking into the range is that it is cool and well ventilated, and you have quite a range in yardage at which you can set you targets at. Whenever I've had a jam that I couldn't clear, the staff was happy to help and had never looked at me like a noob. There is a great selection of targets, and you can rent a TON of different guns. The pricing is unbeatable, I am consistently able to take my girlfriend here for a range date for an hour or two and keep the charges under 30 depending on rentals... usually we don't spend over 25. All in all, HIGHLY recommended range, if you're new or a seasoned pro looking to practice, this is your range. Note, they are closed on Tuesdays! read more

Every single one of these transactions happened quickly, professionally and with a smile. All communications with the store and all employees was fantastic. T_,,_T LoL...What, you think a pea-shooter, a repeater & some doom-shrooms are going to protect you when the sheit heits da fan & they're stormin' your pad? I think NOT! Try two .45 cal. Glocks, one in each hand, ...at least until you can retreat back to your double barrel 10 gauge! Muhahaha! ALL-RIGHTY THEN, now that bit of fun is over, let me start this review: I was surprised how many handguns Markley's has for rent (over 60 I believe). I am in the market for a .45 cal. Glock but I was unsure if I wanted the full size model G21 or the subcompact model. I discovered that Markley's has both for rent so I came here to shoot them and see what size I prefer. What a great concept! A gun store that allows you to try, before you buy!!! The range fees here are fairly reasonable I believe considering this is California. The cost breakdown was approximately as follows: * Firing Lane for an hour+ ($10) * Eye & ear protection/muffs ($1) * Handgun rental ($7ea I thought, but I was only charged $7 for both (1 at a time) * Targets - ($0.75 for standard & $2 for zombie/cyborg) * Ammo - 1 box .45 cal. = 50 rounds (~$25) TOTAL COST: ~$48 After shooting a box (50 rounds), I decided I prefer the 45 cal. Glock G30 subcompact handgun, which still holds 10 rounds. They actually had one in stock for sale when I first arrived, but a dude bought it. It was about $615, which is a fair price. I think it was the last Glock G30 available in the entire State until the factory can produce more in a few months, ...so I've been told. O-wellz! Pointers: 1) The most powerful handgun allowed, and which they rent is the .44 magnum. .50 cal. are not allowed here. 2) You can bring your own pistol(s) and ammo, but for their rented guns you HAVE to buy the ammo from them...can't bring your own ammo for their guns. 3) Guys, bring your date here, especially if she has never tried it. 4) Ladies, don't be intimidated to try the .45 cal. Glocks. Just get a good grip on it, and the recoil really isn't bad at all! I went to Markley's on Sunday, April 29th at about noon for only the second time. I usually go to Reeds in Santa Clara or Target Masters in Milpitas. I live in Morgan Hill so all three ranges take me about 30 min to get to. On Sunday, I walked into the shop with my tactical bag on my shoulder, with my Glock17, Glock 22 and my Walther P22 ready to have a good time shooting by myself. As I walked into the store I notice a tall 6 ft 3 inch, dark haired employee with a cap on standing in one of the isles working on something. When he looks up and sees me, he immediately yanks up his shirt with his hand, reaches to his waistband and grabs his pistol and pulls on it. He did not pull it out completely but he did want me to notice that he was preparing to draw his gun on me. It was a very disturbing incident. His action was very aggressive. Let me start by saying, that I am a 51 year old man, an attorney, who had on shorts and a Glock T-shirt, carrying a locked tactical bag and just walking into the shop towards the counter. I worked for the UC Berkeley police department for 2.5 years when I was a student there. I believe in your right to own and carry guns. However, what the employee did when he saw me was very offensive and inappropriate. It may have also been illegal and am looking into it. I am a gun owner and so are many of my friends and colleagues. Many of my friends are police officers with San Jose PD, Santa Clara PD, Morgan Hill PD and other agencies. I have family members who are Police Officers, I work closely with the DAs Office in Santa Clara County. I can honestly say that I will never return to this range again, I will continue to tell all my law enforcement friends/Family about what happened to me and I will tell them also not to go to this range. I am a loyal customer and a life long customer to many of the establishments I go to but I will never be a life long customer to this place and will never spend any of my money here. I went to this one gun range in Milpitas and did not have such a positive experience. So after two times I called it quits with packing the heat until today.. Maybe it was the company, perhaps it was the guys behind the counter who are super patient and answered all my questions. Perhaps it was all the stuffed animals that are all around the store. What ever it was, I came out of here feeling more comfortable... yes... a tad empowered as the guy behind the counter put it The prices are reasonable and sometimes 30 per person is better spent at the gun range with two boxes of ammo and a glock rather than a fancy meal..... I visited this range on a Thursday around three and couldn't have been happier. The lanes were mostly empty and the staff had tons of time to talk and suggest gear/firearms. Luckily I had already decided what I wanted to try and both pistols were free. Great prices on ammo but have seen somewhat cheaper on the arms purchasing side of things. What an amazing, safe, and dignified experience! Went for handgun safety training October 25th, and I was very, very impressed. Our instructor was knowledgeable and gracious, and no question was ridiculed, and all were answered articulately. When we were given our range time, the instructor and other staff went out of their way to make sure we were safe and comfortable with the weapons we chose to try. They worked closely with us to make sure we learned what we came to learn. As a female, I was concerned that I would be treated in a condescending fashion. This was not the case. I cannot express enough my gratitude for the excellence and professionalism exemplified by Markley's Gun Range. I will return for additional training, and an eventual purchase. I conquered my fear of guns. This was my first and only experience shooting a gun, so naturally I was nervous. I went with a good friend who taught a group of us how to properly use a gun. I'm so glad we did a pre-shooting tutorial, because once you get in it's serious (despite our zombie targets), loud (bang-bang-bang), and nerve wracking (fear and emotion creeping in...). The staff was great and patient enough to walk us through everything we needed to get started. The guys working there walk around half asleep and show no interest whatsoever in dealing with someone just walking in. I've been here many times over the years and it never changes. If you know what you want and just go get it, all is good. If you want or need help, bring a lunch and wear your "thick skin" because your going to be ignored for a while then be talked-to like you don't know _ _ _ _ (rhymes with stick). I've been a shooter/re-loader for 30+ years and know a thing or two. I stopped by there for some cleaning stuff recently and had to laugh at the same-ole, same-ole. We used to frequent markleys as they are the only shooting range in the county, however: no longer--last visit we were in there a woman employee remarked "who is that on your shirt" (in regards to my brothers bob Marley shirt). We both looked at each other--a little surprised, but we told her "that's bob marley" to which she replied "what is that, some black thing?" -- !!?!?!!?!!
