So, when we needed a tree trimmed and a few smaller, decorative (landscaping) trees and bushes removed, we called them again. I was out of town and a family member was present on the day they arrived. They did a decent job of removing the 3 smaller trees but a terrible job on trimming back two bushes. But the biggest transgression was when they told the family member that a large, 40 year old oak in the back yard which I had planted new, was dead and needed to be removed. It was late fall so leaves were not present to indicate a dead tree. My thought is that the little jobs weren't paying enough so they decided to "find" something to make more money. They cut down this oak, which was NOT dead, and charged a $2500 to do so! A check was given to them on the spot by the family member or I'd have refused. Takeaway? Be present when someone is working and get a second opinion (if needed) on whether a tree is dead or dying. I feel like we got played. Caveat Emptor. Below are 2 bushes they "trimmed." And don't get me started on why they didn't tell a family member that the oak pieces would make good firewood or could even be sold for furniture or wood working!

Asked Dennis Wallace for an estimate and they gave me one…read more- it was verbal - I asked for a written estimate which he said that he would get to me and never did. I told Wallace that I was still getting estimates. Then a few days later they went to my property and cut down the tree without my approval. They dropped the tree and put huge holes in my yard. A branch fell and severed a drain pipe and plugged it up and now my gutters leak causing my basement to leak as well. I asked that they come back and fix it. He finally called me back and gave me the riot act for taking so long to pay. I told him that I hesitated for all the above reasons , especially for not cleaning up and for smashing a drainage pipe.He has not returned my calls. So I never got a written estimate, never gave him an official OK to start and never got a receipt. Why I paid him - well - I am a good person. What a con. Do not use this service. I have a few friends who have had the same experience. Stay away. Have not heard one friend speak positive. Stay away.

The co-owner of the service came out on 1 July, she was efficient, professional and knew her trees. She didn't try to up-sell us on anything, and made suggestions that we were comfortable about in meeting our long term goals. The six-man crew arrived this morning, about 10 minutes early (which as an old ex-Army guy I loved). They were ready to work and got right to it. The team moved like a well rehearsed operation, no wasted movements, no wasted time. Each action and reaction caused something to fall to the ground. My wife and I were compelled to watch and take pictures. She needed to do videos for the 3yr old grandson who just loves big trucks and equipment. They have all the proper machinery and accesories, no barely running chain saws or jack-leg ropes and hope methodology for these guys. The clean-up is amazing, aside from the remaining stump, there is very little evidence they were here removing thousands of pounds of wood. They even brought top soil and filled in the divots made from log fall. Tree work is not cheap, and quality work, that is done safely for the workers, and your property shouldn't be. I am very happy with the final cost of the project. This is not, at least hopefully, the kind of service you need with any regularity, but, if we do ever need anything else, JNF is an absolute first call for us. The best thing you could do is just look at how they respond to the negative reviews on here, Google, etc. - is every random person the enemy or are they just a bad company? Following the severe storms in mid-March, they have harassed sweet, elderly women and single mothers in the North County area with outrageous invoices for tens of thousands of dollars for a few hours of work. It couldn't be more obvious how they are simply attempting to prey on vulnerable people in stressful situations, in the hopes of getting the insurance payout, then shout about liens and lawsuits in order to get whatever money they can of out people when either insurance doesn't pay or they want more money. Even going so far as to bring a costumed police officer with them to the door "to collect" - last I checked, cops don't make house calls for bill collection. It is also suspicious that they want their compensation delivered in-person and not sent in the mail - could it because mail fraud is a federal offense?
