After a look, he told me the unit is working very well and needed no replacement. He explained the utility company saves you money with new units since they are more energy cost-efficient, but no, there was no need to replace the unit unless we wanted to. Phew! His detail work however was sloppy, leaving bad scratches all over the new tub. He tried to cover them but only made it worse. The tub will have to be reglazed to fix it. Moreover he or his sub installed the diverted incorrectly and we got a bid for $1340 to fix that. Really the worst part has been his unreliability and broken promises. Our tenant has given up so much time to be stood up, delayed, etc. We finally had no choice but to end the contract, and unfortunately we were nice enough to pay almost all of the contract in advance after he asked if we could help him to pay his guys. We are left holding the bag, which is our fault for paying him in advance when the job wasn't close to being done. I would run from this guy.
