I was having trouble with my thyroid and my doctor suggested I see an endocrinologist. I did a search for those in my neighborhood. Everyone I called said their earliest appointment was two months out. I didn't want to wait that long so I kept calling. The last on my list was Dr Drange. When I spoke to Lucas he said he had an appointment available in 3 weeks. Perfect! Out of everyone I spoke to Lucas was also the friendliest. He explained that I needed to fill out some paperwork first and he would e-mail it to me. Within a few minutes it was in my in box. The day of my appointment I arrived at the office a bit early. I was the only one on the waiting room and a cheerful Lucas greeted me right away. A few minute later Roberto took my temperature then escorted me in. Much like Lucas I immediately got a good vibe from Roberto. He is so chilled and laid back. He took my vitals and walked me to the exam room. A few short minutes later Dr Drange came in. She took the time to listen to me and explained to me what the next steps would be to determine my diagnosis. She suggested an ultrasound of my thyroid and a more in-depth blood test - both of which she could do in her office. Dr Drange did the ultrasound herself - explaining things along the way. Then she brought me to another room where Roberto would take my blood. I dread blood test but Roberto immediately put me at ease. He was very gentle when taking my blood and it didn't hurt at all. I wish all techs were this good! A week later Dr Drange called with the results of my tests and my diagnosis. It's so hard to find a good Dr but I really felt comfortable with her. I appreciated that she listened to my concerns and explained everything to me and made sure I understood what was going on. When I came back for my follow up visit I had the same pleasant experience. Doctor visits are always scary and stressful so I really appreciate the effort that Dr Drange and her staff make to make sure their patients are comfortable and put them at ease. I'm so grateful I found them and am even more grateful that she is going to help me get my life and health back on track. read more

Unfortunately, my last experience was not a pleasant one. Last week, I spoke to the receptionist because my refills of my prescription had run out so I booked an appointment a week out and was told to go to any Quest location to get bloodwork done. During the same call, I also told the receptionist I needed copies of my files for my Physician and eventually for a new endocrinologist because I moved from the Pasadena area. She said that I would need to fill out the form that will be emailed to me and I would receive the documents within 48 hours. Unfortunately, I did not receive the documents on time which caused me to have to reschedule my appointment with my physician. This past Tuesday, I had to call their office to cancel my appointment because I couldn't get an appointment for bloodwork. I told the receptionist I would call back in once I have gotten the bloodwork done. Today (Thursday) I took time to go to Quest to get bloodwork done and I was told they do not have any requests for bloodwork sent by Dr. Drange's office. So, I waited for about 30-45 minutes and they still didn't receive anything. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a hold of anyone from their office around 11 a.m. or 12:00 p.m.-12:25 p.m. so Quest had to deny my appointment and told me I had to rebook it for another time. Around 12:45 p.m. I received a call from Ruth stating because I requested a transfer of records that they cancelled the bloodwork request. The transfer of records and bloodwork was being done concurrently, so it doesn't make sense to close out my records at their office if that wasn't even communicated to me. It would have been helpful if the receptionist told me on Tuesday when I had to cancel my appointment that they were going to close out my records as a patient, so I didn't have to take time out of my day to try to get bloodwork. On a positive note there is room for improvement, if the front desk and their medical records department kept better lines of communication it would really help their patients out to avoid these misunderstandings and time wasted on the patients' side. And since the receptionist is their first line of contact, the receptionist should note in their system what was spoken about to the patient if it could potentially affect what it done on their medical records side of their office. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place. I was in need of a endocrinologist when I was pregnant since my levels were off. They asked for all my medical records including my ultrasounds. When I went to see Dr. Drange, she was pleasant but her explanation of my thyroid levels were very confusing then when she looked at my ultrasound, she obviously did not know how to read one. Why should she? She is not an OBGYN, right? But, then she proceeded to ask me if I was told that I have a tube? I was like tube? No, no one advised me. Then she quickly changed the subject. I was polite and left the office once my appointment had ended. Luckily, I had an appointment with my OBGYN the next day, mind you I took this information Dr.Drange gave me with a grain of salt since that was not her field. My husband and mom on the other hand got worried, I reassured them that I will get to the bottom of this. Then I asked my OB about this mystery tube, I was like she must of been confused and didn't know that this tube was actually the uterine lining. My OB was like you are correct. Definitely do not go to see Dr.Drange if you are pregnant! Dr.Drange also was diagnosing me with hoshimoto's, without even giving me a blood test, which when I went to another endocrinologist, he advised me that I did not have hoshimoto's. Now that I have had my baby I am being taken off of medication entirely and my levels are normal. Dr. Drange has good reviews and an impressive medical background but my experience with her was not a positive one and if it was up to her I would still be on unnecessary medication. read more

Avoid at all costs. I had the misfortune of going to Dr Drange for a visit. I mentioned symptoms and she was dismissive and told me we didn't need to do any tests. Turns out I had active Hashimoto's and Hypothyroidism. Definitely a malpractice case waiting to happen. Dr Drange has been an outstanding endo for me since I moved to Los Angeles from Seattle. There, I experienced everywhere from remarkable, to grossly uneducated care. I saw one Dr that just looked at my blood sugars each appointment, and missed one of the most basic diagnoses observed in autoimmune disorder patients, keeping me sick for months and leading to a near-coma/hospitalization in the 8th grade. Since then, I have relearned to place trust in doctors. I've worked with dr Drange for years. She has always kept on top of my diagnoses, and cautiously screens for potential future diseases. She will adjust medications and do certain tests upon request without arguing with you or demeaning you in any way. Most indispensable of all, she communicates with a non-judgmental, caring tone of voice. She has both the brains AND the heart to be an impactful doctor in the field! I have peace of mind with dr Drange and I know I am in good hands. I can't decide what I think of this doctor! I had to wait almost an hour before being seen, which was a little annoying. The reason was it was my first appointment and they needed time for me to fill out paperwork (which took less than 5 minutes). However, once seen, she took her time with me and was very thorough. Dr. Drange is very strait forward and old school. Her approach was so dour and hopeless that I almost walked. However, I heard her out and decided to continue. I'm coming from Holtorf group which is extremely expensive and alternative, and also very optimistic. Holtorf is outside insurance and Dr. Drange is covered. It was strange to come back to a strait forward endocrinologist. I felt grounded but not at all optimistic that my hypothyroid would be treated. I told her I felt like I had been in a cult. It's hard to leave its cocoon but I'm giving it a try with Dr. Drange. She's direct and no nonsense. Don't go here if you want a cuddly bedside manner! Parking is easy. There is a pay lot. There is a fantastic pharmacy a few doors down. They deliver! This seems like a solid practice and a well trained Doctor. read more

Extremely awesome! Took MONTHS to get an appointment, but when I did come in, she was very nice, very warm and made me feel very comfortable by explaining everything. She offered to take a scan of my throat right there and then, and she explained what was on the scan to me. They took my blood, and she called a week later, to tell me that everything was fine, and I didn't need to come back in for anything (so saved me money and a trip down there), but that we should check it again a few months from now. Very honest, very nice. The only downsides were the long wait to get an appointment and the office doesn't validate in the parking lot they tell you to go to :/ read more

I had an enlarged thyroid and symptoms of hyperactive thyroid but no physician primary or otherwise to help me. I found Dr. Drange on yelp and I couldn't be happier with her as my endocrinologist. I had to wait about a month for my first appointment with her, but wow was she worth the wait. She spent about an HOUR with me, diagnosed me, ran tests, explained everything about Graves disease (my condition) and answered all my questions. It felt as if I was her only patient for the day-- she was completely focused on me and my diagnosis. Dr. Drange is incredibly patient, thorough, kind, detailed, and I trusted her completely within the first 5 minutes of my first appointment. It's going to be a long road ahead, treating my thyroid. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Drange to address my reverse T3 which has been highly elevated for four years with no signs of resolving itself, resulting in a number of health issues. I mailed in my new patient paperwork with everything they required as well as a letter completely explaining my situation and what I wanted done (to be prescribed T3 to lower my RT3 over time). I waited four months for my appointment. When I was finally face to face with Dr. Drange I explained the situation again, showed her bloodwork proving the issue, and was flat out told "we don't treat reverse T3." Ok, then why didn't someone call me to cancel the appointment beforehand? Given that I clearly explained that was the issue in my letter I sent to them MONTHS beforehand there are only two possibilities. Either: 1. She never read the letter and lied to my face about having done so. OR 2. She read the letter and chose to proceed with the appointment anyway despite having no intention of helping me so she could collect a fee. I wasn't expecting her to be a miracle worker, but I certainly wasn't expecting to be told to go F myself. She kept suggesting half baked explanations for a symptom to avoid treating me, but when I would ask how that explains the other symptoms she would just shrug or look confused. She even suggested my health issues could be due to "leaky gut," which is quack science. She said we could do more bloodwork (which would be another couple hundred dollars out of my pocket) to see where my thyroid levels are now. I told her if it's been the same for four years I have no reason to believe it's changed in four months, what would we do if the levels come out the same again? At which point she admitted the answer was "nothing." The entire experience blew me away. I was actually crying at the end while she was ushering me out the door with a dismissive "uh huh, mhm, ok." I called the office later and explained how I felt being billed for that session would be unfair given that they knew they had no intention of helping me. The lady at the desk sounded very bored and uninterested but assured me she would speak with the doctor, which clearly never happened since I never got a follow up and later got a huge bill. I can only assume the other reviews on this page are paid as this was one of the most unethical, uncaring, swindling doctors I have ever had the displeasure of seeing. If you're thinking about scheduling an appointment just put a couple hundred dollars in a jar, wait several months, then burn it. It's the same experience. read more

I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto's, my rheumatologist, after missing the highly elevated TPO on my bloodwork passed me off to an endocrinologist. I got a rave review from a trusted friend about Dr. Drange, called immediately, anxious to get started on treatment and feel better. Rude Roberto answered the phone, refused to tell me if they take my insurance, refused to put me through to someone else after I explained my concern about my diagnosis and the referral, adding the doctor couldn't see me until mid-April anyway. It's early February. I'd give this office 0 stars if it were possible. I called the doctor that was referred by my rheumatologist, was greeted by a lovely receptionist who immediately answered my insurance question, gave me an appt for later this month, and put me on the cancelation list to try to speed things up, That doctor also has many impressive Yelp reviews. I would rate ZERO if I could. I called to make an appointment. I was referred by my OB/GYN for a serious issue. They told me Dr couldnt see me til' end of April. Then I asked who else she could refer me to. I was told- and i quote " she doesnt know anyone else.' My husbands a Dr. He knows EVERY Dr in his specialty. And, he ALWAYS fits in a patient in need. Office staff is awful. How great can a Dr be if she doesnt even know other Dr's within her specialty!!?? NO THANK YOU. read more

I came to Dr Drange based on her reviews and was not disappointed. I initially waited almost 2 months for an appointment as a new patient, but due to life happenings, I had to continually reschedule for the next six months. Office staff is VERY on top of their waiting list; I received a phone call almost weekly letting me know of a cancellation, and if I wanted to come in sooner than my appointment. With a history of thyroid problems unaddressed for 15 years, I was nervous about my appointment. I only waited 5-7 minutes total in the lobby and exam room. She listened and put me at ease. She referred me to an online site where I could purchase my own lab test request, where I went to a local LabCorp and then emailed her my blood test results. This worked fine for me since I'm uninsured and it was the most affordable route. I appreciated that she called me over the phone to discuss my results, rather than having to go back in with another appointment and office visit fee, especially since I was an out-of-pocket patient. I researched on the Internet to try and find a great endocrinologist. Aside from a couple of reviews on YELP, all of Dr. Drange's other reviews were very positive. This made me want to make an appointment with her. I think the biggest issue I have, (and hopefully I'm not being unfair), is with the front-office. When I called to make an appointment, I was told that the Dr. may not be taking new patients, but that she would check and call me back. I called after 24 hours had passed and was told that a note had been left for the Dr. and to be patient. I then waited one week and when I called back again, I was told that the Dr. hadn't responded to the note. I think the front office person should have taken the responsibility to check and make sure the Dr. responded. I finally got a call 24 hours after the second time I called, and was able to make an appointment. Regarding my visit to the Dr.. She is amazing! (I'm glad I was tenacious). She listened to me, explained things in a manner that I could understand, and didn't rush me. I had her entire focus. I felt very confident in her abilities. When my test results came in, she called me herself to give me the results. One tip: do whatever you can to make sure you take her call when she calls. She has a very busy practice (which I think, shows what a stellar Dr. she is), and it is a little hard to get ahold of her. Aside from these things I have mentioned, I truly couldn't be more pleased with my visit. I would recommend her to anyone! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Drange for several years now. She came highly recommended, my other top doctors knew her. I just saw her during the last week and I did not wait at all. She sits down and listens to you and patiently went over my questions about my blood results. She knows how to explain things in practical terms -- should i worry about this number and why. She is also up to date with medicines and possible side effects. She has managed my hypothyroidism very well, which is tricky because I am not an obvious case. She also advised me on my Vit D amounts. Please look at other sites (medical) for more reviews from her actual patients. Just because that one reviewer could not get a first appt without waiting only means that she is in demand and that she does not double-book. I plan my appts ahead and have no trouble reaching the office. She is an excellent doctor. read more

Dr Drange has Been my Doctor since 2009. She has worked closely with me and all my allergies to medications until, we finally found the right combination of thyroid meds. when I told her I was getting bloated and throwing up, that I had been going*to my primary doctor to no avail . After hearing my symptoms she told me to go off GLUTEN She explained what it was and what reactions you can have...well I went off of Gluten and realized that I was Gluten sensitivity and all my symptoms cleared up. She is up to date and will also prescribe compounding medication if so needed .. I highly recommend Dr Drange . Her office is efficient, you never have to wait more than a few minutes for your appoint , she doesn't over book where the waiting room is full. i Also like that you go before hand to her office to have your blood drawn which is very convenient.. We wanted a doctor who listened well, cares about helping the patient, takes time to check into the various possible issues, and explains what she knows well. Dr. Drange is all that to us. Its hard to find an endocrinologist that really listens to your symptoms and takes you seriously. In ten years, and living in 3 different states, Dr. Drange has been the most helpful thyroid specialist I've seen. I learned my hypothyroidism was a result of an underlying autoimmune disorder. That opened the door for me to understand a lot more of my symptoms. By greatly changing my diet to gluten free, taking a large rx dose of Vitamin D, and checking my thyroid levels frequently, I feel better for the first time in a while! I was a patient for more than 3 years and at first I thought she was very helpful, but then came to realize that she isn't very thorough even when I complained about the same problems over and over again. My appointments were very routine and nothing ever improved. She even realized that she failed to test me for a gluten problem when she thought she had. Turns out that after reading a book about people with Hashimoto's sometimes benefit from going gluten free, I have improved tremendously. I thought she would be happy to hear that I was doing better, but it was almost like she was insulted. I asked her a few questions about some of the information from the book and if she could run any different tests and she immediately became offended and said that "Clearly I am not happy with her level of care". That is correct, I was not happy with her level of care. She was definitely lacking in her ability and apparently feeling a little too high and mighty to explain why the tests suggested in the book wouldn't work. read more

It's true that Dr. Drange listens, has good bedside manner, and is good in scheduling so that you never have to wait long. However, where she fails is in diligence. After seeing Dr. Drange regularly to maintain treatment for hyperthyroidism, after a blood test she suddenly called to state the results indicate severe and sudden hypothyroidism. Though this seemed strange, as I felt more or less normal, I followed her treatment recommendation and stopped taking my medicine. A week later, I got another call that the lab was wrong, by a factor of 30. Dr. Drange admitted she didn't see a quality control sticker on the lab (Primex in Van Nuys - don't send your bloodwork there if at all possible, Ara Artoonian, the lab manager, doesn't get QA). Even though I'd been seeing her regularly, she simply didn't take the time to double check the lab, or have the presence of mind to see that the results were inconsistent with my state. As a result, I became extremely hyperthyroid, had to go ER, and she still insists she did the right thing. We found a new doctor, and feel no doctor could be less diligent than doctor Drange. Can't recommend her. Don't feel safe in her hands. read more

The thyroid specialist I had been seeing for eons in Beverly Hills was aged and needed to retire. I was referred to Dr. Drange by my registered dietician for hypothyroidism and insulin resistance. I have been seeing Dr. Drange for three plus years. She is BRILLIANT, CARING, UP-TO-DATE, THOROUGH, PROMPT, GREAT AT FOLLOW UP (Actually calls you herself to convey lab results) and A GREAT LISTENER. TOTALLY FOCUSED and looks you in the eye! You can't find a better physician than Marlys Drange ! I would give her 100 stars if I could! read more
