After that transition, I felt disconnected from the communication and unsure of what to expect throughout the process. I also made every payment on time and paid my legal fees in full before my case was resolved. Because I fulfilled my financial obligations as agreed, I expected consistent communication, thorough preparation, and a clear understanding of the possible outcomes throughout my representation. My experience was disappointing because I felt unprepared for court, and I did not feel my concerns or the information I had gathered were fully presented or discussed. During the hearing, I was left with the impression that my attorney was not familiar with important details of my situation, and I left court without understanding why certain arguments were or were not made on my behalf. I also specifically asked about the potential costs of house arrest before court and understood that I would not have additional daily monitoring fees. After sentencing, I learned that I would be responsible for paying $8 per day while on electronic monitoring. While I fully accept responsibility for my own actions and the consequences of my case, I wish I had received clearer communication about the possible outcomes, the financial obligations, and what to realistically expect before making decisions and paying for legal representation.
