I went in early December for a crown procedure and received good service from Dr. Stein. I had a second visit to complete the procedure on December 23. On both my visits, I asked for an estimated cost and twice I was told I would not have to pay a thing. Come February 2025, and I receive a bill for hundreds of dollars! Unbelievable. So, take it with a grain of salt and a slight of comfort when I say this. These people certainly know what they're doing. And they are, like....twenty times more efficient and professional than the bottom-of-the-barrel dentists they seem to employ on Fort Bliss. Not much of a bar to hurdle over, I know. But it's still worth mentioning for those who may have their fears and doubts as I did. Like another certain Elite bloke who reviewed this place eons before me, I, too, am a complete chickenshit when it comes to going to the dentist. Thing is, I couldn't put this off any longer because that would only lead to more expensive and painful procedures down the road. No, I was not in any pain. I was just here for a routine exam, since it had been a year and a half since I last saw a dentist. Now, I caution you to check with their front desk to confirm they will accept whatever insurance company you go through. I mainly found these guys through mine, after metaphorically searching the four corners of El Paso to make sure I wasn't gonna have to sell my left kidney in exchange for filling two molars and a periodontal cleaning. Let's talk about the office. This place is immaculate and features the latest dental technology. In fact, if you compare Fort Bliss's dental clinics with this one, you'll think you've gone backwards in time with the former. I think VDA (yes, that's what I'm calling them) has about...10 or 20 years edge over Bliss any day. Okay, okay....I promise that's the last roast I'll cast against military dentists. Maybe. Probably. Moving on.. The staff are amazingly professional and, more importantly, non-condescending. For once, I didn't feel judged when all the usual issues came up (I.E. floss more/better, get a better toothbrush, blah blah blah). They actually had a lot of good tips to offer that I didn't know about, even with my own independent research. Because of their recommendation, I just purchased an electric toothbrush for $128. Yeah, yeah...you probably think I'm booji. But...I'm old and my choppers now require special needs. In other words, I'm not taking any more chances! You'll hear a lot of people talk about Dr. Ramirez. Lemme tell ya...this dentist is a chill dude. Like, surprisingly chill! He seemed impressed that I already took initiative in some areas of concern regarding dental hygiene. For instance, he seemed surprised I arrived there for a genuine exam and not because I was experiencing some mouth pain like I suspect most people do. Very rarely does a dentist actually praise their patients for giving an effort. Usually, they just berate them for not flossing enough or using the wrong toothbrush or lecturing them on how they don't brush properly. As for the procedures themselves, they're about as gentle as they realistically can be, given the circumstances. I won't say that I didn't still experience some slight discomfort. But bare in mind, I'm a total wuss when it comes to this sort of stuff. So, again....take it with a grain of salt. Your mileage may vary. So, would I recommend them? Hell yeah I would! And this is coming from a 20 year veteran who previously only ever got dental work from military doctors. That's all I'll say about that. VDA is easily worthy of 5 sparkling bright white smiles from their nervous as hell patients out of 5.

Went to Conner Dentistry for a 6-month cleaning. I pay out if pocket as I lost insurance 3 months…read moreago. I confirmed with the front desk that this was only a cleaning and not an exam. Front desk confirmed and said cleaning is $100. At the end of the cleaning, Dr Connor came in and looked in my mouth for 2 minutes and left. I thought this was part of the cleaning. I paid $49 for his 2 minute evaluation. I spoke with the front desk manager and she would not to wave his exam fee. I feel this is a money grab and was not given accurate information. To be clear, I am happy with the dental cleaning just not the unexpected exam fee. If you want only a cleaning, I suggest telling Dental Assistant up front and have them relay this info to Dr Conner.

Prior to finding Dr. Castro, I hadn't successfully been to a dentist in 10 years. Not only do I…read morehave PTSD, but due to several horrific experiences including a botched oral surgery that required general anesthesia, I had been TERRIFIED of going to the dentist. I even tried a children's dentist here in El Paso at Kool Smiles just for him to accuse me of being a drug addict. He then yelled at me and literally stormed out the room (slamming the door behind him which scared me even more) all because I was shaking and flinching when he touched me. These are things I cannot control. I would often get emotional as well because of how scared I was. I truly thought there was no hope for me. One day in 2018, I realized I had the worst of the worst when it comes to tooth infections. I was in unbearable agony. I googled "sedation dentistry El Paso" and thankfully, Dr. Castro was one of the first names to pop up. I called several places that day and not only was Dr. Castro's staff IMMEDIATELY concerned about me, they told me to come in that very day so the doctor could take a look at me. I asked them a million questions and they assured me Dr. Castro was the best and he knows how to handle a case like mine. First arriving at his office I was comforted by his staff and the quiet back room they put me in. I had anxiety just sitting in the dentist chair so the girl gave me the remote to my personal TV to try and relax. Each chair has its own TV in the room. After I was made very comfortable, Dr. Castro came in shortly after and began a very intimate and caring interview about my PTSD. I was really shocked by this. Never have I had a dentist just sit down to talk to me to assess what my needs and issues are before even attempting to look into my mouth. For medical purposes, he asked about my trauma and wanted to know about every single bad dental experience I've had in my life. Once I had told him everything, he asked if it was okay if he could look at my tooth. Even though I felt very safe and confident with him, I had all my natural reactions such as flinching when he came near my face. Nothing fazed him. He proceeded at my comfort and stayed calm the entire time. When he was finished he told me, "you're really not the worst case I've seen. You have absolutely NOTHING to worry about! YOU DID GREAT!!!" The relief that washed over me in that moment was life changing. I hurried to my car when it was over because I couldn't help but breakdown into tears because it was as if I was finally letting go of 25 years of abuse and malpractice by the dental industry. I ended up needing a root canal and crown for that really bad tooth. Dr. Castro gave me antibiotics to help the infection and then Dr. Stuart (who is a few doors down) did the root canal (which is his specialty) and Dr. Castro did my crown. It was very expensive but to this day, the tooth is beautiful. Any issues I had with it were immediately corrected and I now have a healthy tooth with zero issues. Unfortunately, the extensive work Dr. Castro needs to finish in my mouth isn't possible because I used every last penny of my savings to fix the most immediate issues. But I'm telling you, it was worth every single cent. And every place he has referred me to get the other work done that he himself doesn't do have been phenomenal as well. Dr. Castro REALLY knows his stuff, and best of all, he's an extremely caring person. Every time I've been in his care, he has ALWAYS called me from his personal phone to check on me the very next morning. I've never experienced that even from a doctor before in my life. I also have the emergency number saved and I know I can call it whenever I have an urgent matter now that I'm an established patient (which I've had to do). I feel like I can trust dentistry again because of Dr. Castro. I'm trying to save up the money to bring in my brain damaged and paralyzed mother in to see him because he is the only person I will trust with her dental care. If anyone can help my mom who doesn't have control over her mouth, it's him. The miracles he worked on me is proof of that. Whenever that does happen, I'll be sure to report back on how that goes because I NEVER see anything about dentists who can handle stroke/brain damaged patients. This is something I feel needs to change because they are a people in need. But I have every faith that Dr. Castro will be the dentist I'll be able to write reviews all over the Internet about after he sees my mom. That way I can hopefully help another patient like my mom find Dr. Castro in the future, as I hope I'm helping whoever is reading this find him. Lastly, I want to make sure to mention that I have NEVER had so much of a hint of rudeness or disrespect from ANY of the staff or Dr. Castro himself. They have gone above and beyond for me EVERY SINGLE TIME. You won't find a better dentist in El Paso, possibly in the whole country.
