There are softball fields, a kids play grounds, plenty of hiking trails and a beautiful large lake and dock. We spent a few hours hiking the trails. They are well maintained and the views are breath taking. The lake is large and beautiful and looks to house several species of fish. There is a board walk and two floating docks on each side for shore fishing. We plan to come back with our kayaks for a day of fishing. There are picnic tables and a few BBQ grills. Perhaps a picnic lunch and then kayaking. The park is dog friendly with a leash. Lots of people walking and enjoying the quiet scenery and fall weather. You won't want to pass up West Ashley Park.

Accessible from both sides of Sam Rittenberg Blvd whether heading north or south with a paved walkway adjacent to the north side of Sam Rittenberg Blvd that connects the park to the frontage road near Parkshore III. Had the most wickedly delightful time doing archery today. Johns Island County Park host intro…read moreclasses, family archery, and senior sessions. The program leaders were stellar as well with their teaching, guidance, and humor. They provide the materials, so no need to BYOB (bring your own bow) but after today I'm considering to get one haha and seeking out more archery opportunities! As soon as you get there, they go over the safety rules and how to hold your bow with methods on pulling back and aiming. I felt such strength to pull the bow using my back muscles, to see the arrow shoot so fast. I loved the power of the release and hearing the sound of arrow pierce the target. There's several targets with each one set according to yardage so you can either start ambitiously or work your way up. The instructors also gave us some balloons to work with to try to aim for, that was entertaining. For safety purposes they command when to retrieve arrows, and while aiming we are to remain behind the concrete lines to ensure safety. For only $20 to unleash your inner Katniss Everdeen, it's worth it! My only complaint was I wish the course lasted longer!! The park also has a 3D archery range to which you practice on fake animals. 10/10 would recommend!

The park is right around the corner from the Volvo Family Circus Tennis Cup Stadium. It has one of the only dog parks on the island; which is a nice fenced area, but there is a lot of gravel there. If there was more grass it would be a better dog park.

My most recent visit was for two days of volunteer work with my running club, which hosts a race that begins and ends in the park. Cannon Park's most prominent feature is the raised platform with four columns, which are the last remnants of the old Charleston Museum that burned down in 1981. Lately, people have used sidewalk chalk to write inspirational quotes and positive messages on the columns. For dog parents, Cannon Park is the place to go. Your pups will meet plenty of other pups to social with, as this seems like Charleston's token dog park. I'm not sure if dogs are supposed to be off leash in this park or not, but they often are. The park has doggy bags and waste receptacles, but watch your step as not everyone cleans up. I almost slipped stepping into a few holes as well, and I wish the city would give the park some TLC and level those so no one gets hurt. The park has a small playground, which is shaded but the equipment looks like it's seen better days. Although the Charleston City Parks website claims the park has wifi, it is spotty at best, so I wouldn't count on it. If you're hungry or thirsty while in the park, there's a Walgreens and a gas station very close by. This simple park doesn't have a huge tourist draw, which could be a plus. Since it's so close to the hospitals, it's the perfect place to go for a walk for some fresh air and a little escape from the medical community.

If you really want to hear about it, Charles Towne Landing is one of those places that's crazy…read moreabout history and all that, but it's been around 1670. ​Right when you get there, they've got this big concrete sign with a metal ship carved onto it, just to make sure you know your have arrived. But once you walk past the entrance, the place opens up into these incredible, huge live oak trees forming a canopy over a dirt path. It looks like something that's been there forever, without anyone messing around, nature is the master. ​They've built these wooden boardwalks that stretch right out across the marshland and over the still, dark water. The water reflects the green trees so clearly it looks like a painting, though half the people pushing strollers across the bridge are too busy taking photos to even look at the trees. They've also got a statue standing in the woods of a Native American holding a club, just standing there among the bare trees, which gives the whole woods a quiet, sort of eerie vibe. Up near the water, you can even catch a glimpse of the tall wooden masts of that old replica sailing ship they keep docked there. ​It's actually a pretty good place to walk around if you want to get away from a bunch of phonies for an hour, provided you just stick to the boardwalks and watch the trees instead of listening to the tour guides.

Parking is also free. Charles town Landing has some great scenery and plenty of ares to walk or ride a bike. My child loves going here to see the animals in the animal forest. A few of the animals they have onsite are a Bear, Elk, buffalo, bald eagle, and a puma. There are some more animals as these are only a few.

This park is cool as it has plenty of open space as well as a basketball court and a tennis court which is nice if you want to do both in the same place. I like that there is plenty of trees and shade here and picnic tables if you want a cool place to sit and relax or have a picnic. This park seems to be clean and well maintained, but also not too crowded which most times makes it just the right experience. This park has been there throughout the years and has always provided a fun time.
