    Views from the observation tower

Words can't express how much this park means to me! It's so peaceful with the combination of paved and nature trails along immaculate views of the marshland. There's an observation tower, playground for the kiddos, a dog park for both big and little dogs, trash bag stations to pickup after your pet, rentals for bikes and peddle boats, fishing dock areas, restrooms, shelter rentals, big fields, plenty of picnic benches, a separate mini waterpark area. Spent lots of great memories the past few years at this park admiring the sights, scents, and sounds of the Lowcountry. Great place to enjoy nature at its finest.

Highly recommend!!! This park was stunning. Multiple trails that were all beautiful. I spent almost 2 hours walking around and never got bored. There's an observation tower and paddle pats rentals - but I didn't do these things since I was with my dog. But happy to know it is an option! There were also picnic tables throughout, so easy to set up for lunch /afternoon out

The spiders were fighting over a bug and looks like those sacs were about to hatch some spider babies... Tsk Tsk

"Just Family Reunion 2017" Our family celebrated our "Just Family Reunion" among the gated walls of the Palmetto Islands County Park. Our last gathering was at the James Island County Park and in my opinion both parks are lacking... The park is located in Mount Pleasant and was easy enough to find via google maps. The Big Oak Shelter was a little harder to find nestled among the trees, but we eventually found it .. parking was notorious as it had rained the day before as well as that morning and it was impossible not to step in mud on vehicle exit... the Shelter boasted in indoor kitchen that housed our drinks and allowed for a set up of brought in food for our buffet. The place was not that clean and I could tell it rarely received a good scrub down.. which is unfortunate for what these parks charge for rental. The children were happy as the area had a volleyball court and plenty of grassy area to run into. The kitchen area was connected to a covered patio that roughly sat 150 people comfortably.. I commend the staff on coming frequently to dump the trash but give them 2 thumbs DOWN, 5 Negative STARS and a Big Goose Egg (0) for the conditions of the bathrooms.. after fighting the mosquitoes while playing with the kids and sitting at dirty tables, one would hope to find a clean restroom to cleanse in .. Not the Case... the place was filthy and thank God I followed my two year old cousin into the bathroom because she was headed straight to the spider web... ( photos posted) of spider sacs in the disgusting stalls.... And I'll just add I witnessed two spiders fighting for a bug.. I hated to view that Episode of Survival of the Fittest, but the other stalls were worse.... Unfortunately our event was rained out and we could not cash in on our Splash Zone voucher so we happily passed it to the relatives living in Charleston... but if the bathrooms and lodges are any indication of the cleanliness of this park, than I'll pass on anything water related ... not sure about the chlorination in this water park... I wouldn't return... and I honestly hope the parks divvy up the funds received and ensure all facets of the parks receive the same attention.. the overhead can not be that high... I can tell nothing has been replaced or updated in years... The Islandgal29412... "and I grew up here so I Know!"

Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant is great place to experience nature and fresh air with trails, views of the water, plenty of space to run around, and much more. This park is very well managed and has much to offer. Really good experience every time I have been here.

We rented a shelter for our office picnic for this coming weekend. I haven't been out to Palmetto Islands in several years and needed to firm up the deets with the office manager, so I took a drive out there. It's easy to get to from Long Pointe Road in Mt. P. If you have a Charleston County Park Pass, there is no entry fee, but otherwise it's only $2 per person for the day. The entire park is very "rustic", with sandy roads and trees galore. There is a pretty wide greenway that runs along side the shelters and provides a sunny avenue for play. The park is surrounded by marshlands and tidal creeks, and they have done a great job with placing picnic tables all around so that visitors can stay for awhile and enjoy the views or just take a rest. There are paved walking trails throughout the park as well. On the opposite end of the park is the Toy Yard for kids. It looks like a jungle gym made for adults. It seems to have a little something for everyone, no matter the size or physical ability. The SplashZone water park is also down near the office. Of course it was closed since it is December, but I guarantee many a kid would still enjoy splashing around with our 70-80 degree days. The office staff were very friendly and prepared. Heidi helped me and was very pleasant and supportive to our groups' needs. I'll provide an update from our actual event, but I can't imagine that it won't be superb. Great setting, great weather, and reasonable price to spend an afternoon together with friends, co-workers and their families.

One day before leaving on our cruise, my husband and I were fortunate to find this lovely park and spend some quiet time walking one of the trails. There was a $2 charge upon entering the park and we were given a map by the friendly lady at the entrance. We drove through and parked off in a small area. There are decked walkways over marshes, paved and dirt/ biking trails. We came upon a 50 ft. lookout tower with play equipment attached for children to climb and play. The top of tower gives a great view of the marshlands. There is a small water park. Those that live in the area are fortunate to have such a great place to enjoy.

Palmetto Islands County Park is a fantastic park located in Mount Pleasant. We're visiting and decided to stop by so the kids could get the wiggles out. There's scenic trails, a large shaded play area, observatory, overlook, and etc. We really enjoyed it. The cost is $2/person 3 and over. If you don't have cash, don't worry, they accept most major credit cards.

We live in Hanahan and found this little gem on our way. What a great park! I knew there were splash pads around but didn't know this place had one. I am blown away by the gym equipment, the rock-climbing accessories all over, cute hammocks, a big sand pit, toddler area, a variety of swings. Also, snack bar and bathrooms, and a long path that goes over the marsh and goes on and on. I still have more to explore and discover for sure. Special note: There is a pass you can buy for access to all Charleston County parks like this one. I think it's $75 a year. After seeing this park and knowing the other splash pad equipped parks are included, as well as festivals throughout the year, I know what my Christmas present will be!

This is my favorite park. It has loads of walking trails, a great playground with plenty of shade, bicycle and paddle boat rentals, volleyball courts, a dog park and in the summer a water park. I wouldn't recommend the water park for older kids, there is only one large slide and a few small ones, a splash pad and lazy river. My younger kids love the water park and the big toy playground. This is a great place for a family outing.

Love this dog park. Our first time here. Loved how much space they have for the dogs to run. They also have a trash can and dog poop bags in case they are needed. I appreciated the picnic tables and the huge umbrella for the humans to sit under and out of the sun. I will recommend this dog park and will be bringing my dog back. I have a good pass into the park so I didn't have to pay entry fee but if you don't, I believe it's $2 a person per car.

It features a small dog and large dog side hidden away under the trees. The place is nice and stays shaded during the hot sun, but it is in the woods somewhat so I might suggest bringing bug spray for mosquitos and gnats. This park is great for pups to run and plan, but be aware that it is not always populated, so you cannot guarantee that others will be there. I have always had pleasant experiences at this park, but I will say that I don't always feel the most comfortable going there alone as you have to walk a bit in some trees on a trail before finding the fenced in play area. Personally, I always bring someone with me when I go. DIRECTIONS: If this is your first time going, give yourself some time to find where it is! You have to turn off Rifle Range into the Waterworks facility. Then, follow the signs (to the right) all the way to the end of the road. Keep looking for the dog park signs (or a sign for Marsh View Trail, which passes through the dog park), and note that it is somewhat hard to find. You know you are there when you find a "dead end." Cars are generally parallel parked, if there are any there. On the right-hand side are trees (and you can see houses/a neighborhood through them) and on the left-hand side is a metal fence and stuff presumably for the waterworks. Once you park and start headed to the park, you will have to walk just a tad until you get there. (I took pics and posted in my Yelp review if it's helpful). Enjoy!
