Hired to build an attached bathroom and shower, replace the current tub and floor under it and…read morescreen in our porch. None were completed. Tried to help the guy out by paying him unearned labor (yes, still kicking my own butt for not doing my due diligence) for what we assumed was to pay his help. His help was one person that worked maybe a total of 12 hours. Was told all would take 4 to 6 weeks. He did have a medical issue he couldn't help but there were existing situations present before he accepted the job which prevented him from working our project until finished. Long story short he started April 3rd, was paid several thousand dollars up to the total on June 29rh and that's the last we've seen of him. When it was clear he had no intention of returning we decided, while waiting and hoping our bank that loaned us many thousands of dollars, to do some investigating. He doesn't have a residential builders license which a handyman classification doesn't exempt you from having to have a residential builders license when a job is over $500. When learning the only recourse is civil suit which punishment is a judgement. We had what work he did inspected by the city building inspector it was determined his work was poor and codes had not be abided by. By doing this review I hope it will prevent anyone else from being screwed over. It has put us in a terrible financial position of which we will prevail. If you consider this person you'd be best to walk away. And don't make the mistake we made by not asking for credentials, references and certificates of insurance. No matter the contractor please don't pay for any work not completed. One other advancement was offered when he said he had no truck. What he showed up with if he paid $500 for it he paid too much.
