I will start this as I always do by saying that I only give out five stars unless I am really blown away. This is a 3 1/3 star for me. The food was good. The ambiance is that of a bar. Yet a nice bar the place was clean and comfortable had a wall made of tv screens which was very nice. Would be a good place to watch a sporting event. Service was very good the bartender came and served us at the booth we sat at. She was charismatic and made good suggestions on food choices. The Mac salad was very good just needed a little salt and pepper that I added myself. Mac salad is a tough one. People think it's so easy but I have tried a bunch of Mac salads that are not good and this one was very good. My sandwich was also very good. Had some kick to it thanks to the boom boom sauce. The chicken tenders were just okay. So overall I would suggest coming here for a quick lunch as the food is worth the stop. read more

This place is great! The bar is long and there's plenty of room to fit lots of patrons. I hate when an establishing has little bar space, Marshall Street doesn't have that problem! The food is yummy and reasonably priced. I suggest getting the quesadillas or nachos or loaded fries. Whatever you get, you'll be happy. What's better, is the drinks are cheap and the cocktails are big. Nothing worse than a 2 sip drink! You won't get that crap here. The floor plan is open layout with plenty of space for darts, pool or watching a tv/sports show. They have viewing parties like for the Walking Dead with big projector screens. They had a ton of veggie friendly bar food which I always adore. Fast service and a variety of drinks and snacks. The condiment tray had no salt shaker. The food took a long time to come out. After patronizing Marshall St probably a dozen times, I've finally decided to leave a review. In short, this place is great if you want cheap drinks and pretty cheap bar food. They have daily drink specials and a decent happy hour, including draft beer for $2.50 a pint! I also really like the food here - it's better than standard bare fare. My personal favorite is their Irish nachos, how can you go wrong with waffle fries topped with jalapeno queso? They also (surprisingly!) have a lot of vegetarian and even vegan food choices. I tried their vegetarian sloppy joe recently and it was tastier than most other real-meat sloppy joes I've tried. The one qualm I have is that with some of the new menu options, some things seem to be a little oddly priced in comparison to the portion. My friends recently ordered a whole order (not a half order, which is an option) of zucchini fries, and while they were good, it came with 6 fries while costing $8. They were pretty confused, and asked the bartender if they were mistakenly given a half order. No, they confirmed that they received a whole order. So the half order just comez with just 3 fries? Kind of odd, and I'm still wondering if that's true! Despite that, I still love Marshall street and would definitely recommend it for some cheap drinks with friends! read more

This is one of my favorite places! The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is great and they have tons of board games! Other games include darts, pinball, the claw and a huge Connect Four. If you're not into those kinds of games you can watch football or The Walking Dead on the huge screen in the dining area. It includes three projectors. The menu is extensive and includes an array of apps, sandwiches and other noshes. They have taters! My favorite sandwich is the deep-fried turkey club. Get a side of queso and you're golden! The long bar is stocked with at least 10-15 beers on tap and all kinds of craft brews. Samples are encouraged. The dining area is large enough to party with a group of friends, yet cozy enough to enjoy quality time with your BFF. Marshall St. is awesome and you will thoroughly enjoy it. read more

All Garbage Plates are not alike! A bit about the why and how we got to Marshall St Bar & Grill... We started from Syracuse, shopping for a specific item sold only at a Rochester location of a store, despite Syracuse having several locations of the same store, as they did not carry the item. A warm and sunny March day with shopping behind us, my friend had never had a garbage plate, which originated in Rochester at another location, not open on Sunday. Yelp never lets me down, so I did my research and we drove across town to Marshall St., parked on the street about a block down, and entered the door next to the young man playing the piccolo. (Quite good I may add) This is a very large bar, which smelled fresh and clean as we entered. They open at noon and we arrived around 2. There were 2 patrons and a bartender in sight, so we went to the bar and confirmed they make, "Their own take on a garbage plate", We both went for the "Vesuvius", which sounds more volcanic than it is, although very tasty spices, with a finish that creates warmth in the body and the occasional bead of sweat on the brow. There are waffle fries, cheese sauce, meaty sauce, macaroni salad, and choice of meat. I went Hot Dog with a NY on tap brew, and my friend went hamburger with a mixed drink. As I write this review on Monday I am finishing the leftovers for lunch. (Sadly sans-beer, but I am at work after all) Very good! The mac salad has fresh, sweet carrots, and is a good compliment to the slight heat and tasty spice of the plate. Service was very friendly, informative, and patrons were helpful as well. It was a was a surprisingly nice fusion and a great start to the day. The group as a whole liked it so much so that 6 of them have made the return drive out from Lockport to try other food. The second trip didn't disappoint either. I like the food and I like the service. It's a big space, that has been really quiet when we have been there(not too surprising given the time of day). Still one of the best places for casual and cheap Happy Hour, bar food and late nights of darts and board games in front of the big projectors streaming your favourite programs. Not the best parking situation, but that is out of their control...much like all the pesky construction. Luckily most of the surrounding businesses are closed at night, so you have a good chance of finding a spot right on Monroe Ave. The bar food is absolutely satisfying. No shame. My regular order would be a toss up between the Irish Nachos and the Untidy Tots...though I order the tots a lot more often. Something about crispy tots smothered in cheese sauce and topped with their house meat sauce...so good. It pairs extremely well with any of the rotating craft beers on tap! Their mac and cheese is also very good as proven by that they serve one type of variation or another at their participating events. They are also vegetarian friendly! I tried their veggie sloppy joe at an event they catered and it was delicious! And as mentioned before, they play your favourite shows. This unique bar has a lot to offer! The food here isn't typical "bar food" - it's much better! They have a lot of unique items on the menu such as fried portobello mushrooms. They make a house sauce as well which is a must try. Small outdoor area with some tables and chairs. Lots of bar seating, game area, large projection screens too. There is an extensive food menu, but not too many beers on draft compared to other bars in the area. So as I mentioned in my first review, tator tots lured me into Marshall Street B&G. I'm a regular now because of the awesome customer service, tap selection, and prices! (~$4 a pint at night. Plus a killer happy hour... $2.50 pints/well drinks 11am-7pm EVERY DAY!) I should also mention that their enormous projector tv screens are the best. I was incorrect in assuming it's sports all the time... it's more like Food Network and Discovery Channel all the time. And 80s jams rockin' through the speakers. A bar after my own heart. Plus, they've been hosting Sunday night viewings of Walking Dead. Although I'm not a fan of the show, I appreciate the effort they put into serving as the host to a throwback tradition of people gathering together to watch their favorite tv show when it actually airs. I'm pumped to be a regular Sunday visitor when Breaking Bad starts up in July to finish out the series with a bang. Let's not forget about the food. Of course, the tator tots are my #1 - pair them with queso (cheddar-y and hint of jalapeño heat). But, they have some killer fried options, apps and sammies. Most items are $7 or under. Cheap, but well-crafted bar food. Here are my faves: - Cheeseburger - simple, but well made. Great bar burger w/ a thick patty and fresh rolls. This is one of those moments where you order it with American cheese and it's good. - Hotdog bites w/ their mustard dipping sauce. Yep, that's right, battered & fried hotdog bites. I DEVOURED them. - Anything with the Marshalls Street Hot Sauce... don't bother with any other sauces. This is the ticket. Great option on the buffalo chicken quesadillas. - Fried pickles. This is the only place in Roc (that I know of) that batters and fries them as medallions. Indeed the preferred method. The batter is wonderful; tempura-like and seasoned. Dip those bad boys in the homemade cajun sauce and you're good to go. Play some board games too. I recently partook in a game of Battleship with the bf. He sunk my battleships. So many years has passed, almost 10 years to be exact that I remembered this bar used to be under a different name once or twice. My aunt in law wanted to bring us here for the "best garbage plate" on the end of her town. My husband and I were reluctant but we were really hungry after a long day visiting our other relatives. The inside is pretty grungy, just like I remember it 10 years ago. Even the chair seats looked like it, holes and all. But when it came to the food, it kinda made up for it. However, you do have to place your order at the bar and it did take a long while for a table of 4 to be served. Everyone but me got the volcano plate (garbage plate) while I opted for the buffalo chicken quesadilla. I'll tell you this.... the dilla was really really cheesy. It was all cheese and small chunks of buffalo chicken. I felt it should have had at least one vegetable to give me the satisfaction of a quesadilla. The blue cheese sauce was put on the side, thank goodness, as it was actually awful. I had to ask the server to bring out a side of salsa to help me salvage my own meal. My husband did enjoy his meal as it was the only time he was able to grab a garbage plate before returning back to Florida. The fries are waffle fries and they put some kind of cheese sauce on top of it along with the typical meat sauce. I didn't care for the hamburger as I felt it was heavily soaked with the meat sauce even though I don't mind the meat sauce... it just could have been done better. I don't really go to bars often since I don't drink but I ended up here with some friends and I was very excited to see they had vegan portobello wings with vegan ranch. These were super delicious and different than other vegan wings which are usually cauliflower or fake chicken. The vegan ranch was great too. I was also super impressed with the social distancing protocols. Most bars I have seen seem really gross but not here. You couldn't eat/drink at the bar and could only go up to order while wearing a mask. All bartenders were wearing masks and customers had to sit in tables spaces 6 feet apart. Marshall Street is my alternative to Dr's Inn. It's my kinda dive. If it weren't for location/parking, I would be loitering along their bar much more often. That said, it ticks almost every other box for me. The crowd tends to be nicely diverse, while avoiding the elements I dislike about other places nearby. It's not a loud, sleazy, bro-fest, which I often ran into at Scotch House. You can watch things on huge TVs, with plenty of space and games to go along with that, which I consider a vast improvement over Dr's Inn (barely above the level of being in someone's garage). Lastly, on the busy nights when you don't wanna be crammed tightly into a trendy joint up in the East/Park area, Marshall Street is a great alternative. Yeah, it's busy, but you can actually have a goddamn conversation without having your face pressed point blank into the eye-rolling scent of Dior Sauvage or Paco Rabanne 1Million or whatever uber popular cologne has become ubiquitous at the trendy joints. With that in mind, I still prefer this place even more on the off nights. Close enough where everyone can get to it, but chill enough where people can unwind and shoot the shit without the pretense of being in a certain specific place. And you won't end up hangry by the end of the night, because the dive menu churns out just the right bar fare. I've made it a regular practice to get the fried bologna sandwich whenever I'm there. read more

One of my favorite bars in Rochester. Tons of huge tv screens, usually playing something interesting, even for me- a long-time shunner of television- Mythbusters, good movies, I think I've seen some kind of documentary there that none of us could stop watching, and of course more often than not, sports. But the screens are big enough to see those tight uniforms in action so that part isn't a total loss for the non-sports minded among us. The food has always been just awesome. Bar food, yes, but really good bar food and some really different choices than what you're used to. They have tons of different quesadillas (yessssss) and their Irish nachos make me drool. Their bartenders are always great, drinks are good, selection is good, and location is great- part of the downtown/monroe/Alexander scene, but not, at the same time. They're far enough away from the shitshows that are Monroe/Goodman and East/Alexander to save you the drama of those areas, but close enough to walk to (or more likely, run from) either one. Just an all-around solid bar. Looking forward to doing kickball with them in the fall :D read more

What a breath of fresh air the Marshall Street bar is. I went here for the first time this past Friday with my best friend (he frequents) and we had an amazing time. When we initially arrived there were two bartenders on staff, one girl, and Tom (who we affectionately called "Summer Shorts" all night). Tom was quite literally, THE BOMB. My best friend and I had never had margaritas, and we figured the perfect Friday night would involve trying them together. We told Tom we wanted him to be creative and make some kind of summery margarita drink, and he killed it! They were absolutely delicious and he did NOT skimp on the alcohol. We ordered dinner, my friend ordered his own twist of their grilled cheese sandwich, and I ordered the chicken quesadillas. The quesadillas were godly. I appreciate so much when a place makes a quesadilla that doesn't short you on cheese. Every bite was flavorful and cheesy. I would go as far as to say that the quesadilla I had at Marshall's was one of the most perfect I'd ever had. As you can tell, we wasted no time with our food or our margaritas...and when we were finished we decided to sit outside. We snagged a seat and people watched all night. It was one of the most entertaining things I have ever done. We had all sorts of people talk to us, the door guy was talking with us, and even the owner came and sat down and chatted with us. I love when employees just act like people around you. It makes the environment comfortable. The weather, margaritas, food, and people were absolutely perfect and I highly anticipate my next visit to Marshall's. We had an absolutely phenomenal time. Don't skip out!! read more

I love me some Marshall Street Bar and Grill. Last night my boyfriend and I decided to do our own little pub crawl! One of our stops was Marshall Street Bar and Grill. I really love this place. It's nothing special as far as atmosphere, but the people are great, food is DELICIOUS and the specials are always good! My boyfriend and I ordered Irish Nachos and the Breakfast burger. Freaking amazing. Everyone needs to get the Breakfast burger. It's a burger in-between French toast bread with an egg and maple syrup. It's just amazing. And their Irish nachos were delicious! I love Bar food and this is a place where you can go and get some amazing bar food! I hear their happy hours are pretty awesome too, I will have to check that out next time! read more

This was coooooooooooooooooooool. I had always been told to check out Marshall Street but never did until about a month ago. If I owned a bar/restaurant, THIS is what I'd want it to be. I came with a small group and we were super confused at first because there was nothing telling us to wait to be seated but no one came to our table when we sat down. Finally, we figured out we had to order from the bar. Whoops. They were super friendly and helpful once we made it that far. They have BOARD GAMES all over, pool, darts, and a KISS PINBALL MACHINE. All of this makes me so happy. The food though... that also made me happy. They have volcanoes which are basically crazy garbage plates. I highly suggest you try it because it is an experience. TONS of food for a great price. Bring a blanket because you're going to want a nap after this. read more
