My 7 year old had a blast at this camp! Terrific counselors. Will definitely be signing him up for next summer!

I've told this story so many times, I thought I'd share on yelp. My daughter, then 14, was heading…read morewith our family to Martha's Vineyard for a few weeks. I looked into various camps for which she was too old and saw "IMP for kids" and thought she'd do well an an "Imptern" since she was attending an Art's School in Miami within the Musical Theater track. We contacted Donna Swift and was told Impterns had to do a minimum of three weeks. We weren't able to commit to that, so Donna and I made an agreement where we would pay half of the tuition as a barter for her to work two weeks at the camp. So yes, I paid for my daughter to work for Donna. I drove her everyday to and from the theater. She was never late and never missed a day. Since she wasn't leaving till Wednesday of the third week, Donna asked my daughter if she could come Monday and Tuesday. My husband and I were off island during that week, but my daughter said yes. She came on Monday but called in sick on Tuesday because her Aunt decided to let her sleep in. When she woke up, she was afraid, but called Donna and said she was sick. Later that day, she and her Aunt went to the beach, which she posted on Instagram. After we returned home, my daughter reached out to Donna to get a letter stating she performed 78 service hours and Donna refused!! I told my daughter we'll try again later, maybe she was just in a bad mood. We tried a few more times..nothing!! So now two years later, Donna Swift still refuses to give her her service hours. She berated my daughter and proceeded to tell me what an awful Imptern she was and again refused to give her a letter for her 78 hours performed, again seething about the ONE day she missed and having the audacity of going to the beach after calling in sick. She actually said if my daughter is as great as I tend to think she is (?), she shouldn't need these hours. If any of you have a high school child, you are all aware how important 78 service hours are, so I was infuriated. Since this is her "domain," we have no recourse, but I thought I'd share this story with you.

IMP Camp introduced me to theater as a 6 year old in a completely unique and personal way. I live off island during the year, but have spent 13 summers at camp, becoming a part of a close community that the company has shaped in both its campers and staff. the individual attention that is paid to each camper's needs shows in each performance. having learned and worked in other creative education settings, this is one of the most accommodating and supportive places I have been able to be a part of.

YRSC is great. Most instructors are young college students who have gone through the program…read morethemselves. The very young beginners start out sailing in knock abouts to learn the ropes. Those looking to race will sail two-up in 420's or singly in Lasers. Many of the racing instructors have experience racing for their high school or college sailing teams. Friendly, safe, warm, inclusive atmosphere. Good equipment, usually decent wind, and clean water on Lewis Bay.

This summer I signed up (myself, my wife and two kids 7 & 10) with Yarmouth Recreational Sailing…read moreprogram and the great experience has far surpassed all of my expectations! We were 100% beginners at the start, but were sailing by the end of our first day! All the students received an opportunity to learn at their own pace and some became very proficient. One of the pleasures of this program is that the learning is done on Cape Cod Knockabouts - a classical boat with terrific sailing characteristics. Depending on the skill level the sailing will take place closer or farther from the Lewis Bay mooring field and on several occasions some boats went as far as the Hyannis Harbor. The best feature of the program has to be the Instructors who by their teens have more sailing experience than most adults. They typically started sailing when they were 5 or 6 years old and by the time they are instructing they are seasoned veterans, experienced in all sorts of sailing and racing. They are like all the kind of kids you wish to raise - responsible, smart, kind, intelligent, dedicated and professional. An important feature of the program is its flexibility. The students who progressed to more advanced stages were challenged with more advanced topics. The parent aged students were given an opportunity to study with more experienced instructors when appropriate. There were no idle moments and the mentoring atmosphere was very reassuring to every student. Yarmouth Recreational Sailing organizers and administrators deserve high praise for offering such a wonderful program to the community. A program with this many moving parts that runs this well is a testament to the skill and dedication of the entire staff. Very well done! Many Thanks!!!
