If you're looking to add a few unique pieces to your house, you should definitely include That…read moreVintage Shop on your antique shopping rounds. Sitting on Enmore Road (opposite Enmore Park), you'll recognise it by the jumble of antique furniture out the front and you can pull in to the store's carpark on the right. There are heaps of great knick-knacks and collectables, like malt tins, bottles, bird cages and artwork. Last time I was in there I saw an amazing kids' table and chair set in the shape of a cartoon-style red-and-white mushroom. It took serious willpower to walk away from that... From cushions to quilts to kitchenwares and frames, you'll be tempted to buy way more than you can fit in your house. If you're renovating, you've got an even better excuse to spend up big. There are always plenty of great doorknobs, light fittings and an eclectic mix of chairs. It's not all antique, though; you'll also spy some beautiful new products like candles and teacups. The owners have used every last inch of space so be prepared to do some digging!

The second room appeals to me a bit more. The stuff here is a bit more rustic, a bit less previous. And there's quite a bit of it; watch where you walk. But a great deal of it doesn't seem to be *actual* antiques, just stuff made to *look* like it is. If that's fine by you, then the prices seem fairly reasonable.

This shop has all the looks of a bomb having gone off inside it, a jewelry bomb. Every nook and…read morecranny is draped in something sparkly and beautiful making it impossible for anyone with any magpie tendencies to pass by the shop without a quick look-in. Although this is not the only place that Tresors exhibits, they usually have a stall at the Antiques Fair, it is soon to close so it's important to remember this shop is still around. The shop assistant told me that the shop had always stocked the "more fun" things anyway. Their pieces are a variety of costume, antique and estate collection jewelry which hasn't been tampered with, so you'll find the prices and styles range wildly. Most pieces are one-offs. I could barely tear myself away, though I've definitely made note of this one for any friends' up and coming Birthdays (or presents to myself). Without a doubt there'll be something for everyone in there, and (for the blokes) the shop assistants are just gorgeous!

But antique/ old wares stores can be somewhat intimidating, with "invite only" style security, or posh/ rude staff. I've often found myself "looking shyly", too self conscious to ask questions, and hurridly scurrying out the door. My experience today at Tresors was anything but. On taking a gulp and stepping inside, I was greeted warmly by staff, who let me look unattended for as long as I needed until I approached them for assistance. The aim today was to find the perfect 30th gift for a dear friend, something beautiful, and one of a kind. To be honest, I'd say I found that "special something" 100 times over, such was the volume and collection of antique, vintage, estate, costume jewellery and ornaments packed into this modest store. I must've spent over an hour rifiling through what felt like grandma's treasure box, scouring their many drawers of beads and semi precious stone necklaces in every possible colour of the rainbow, aurora borealis, lapis lazuli, german art deco beads, citrine and 60's vintage mod beads. Each beautiful piece had a story, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff at Tresors who respectfully and patiently answered all my questions and made thoughtful suggestions, I even learned a thing or two and had a laugh in the process =) I finally decided on a beautiful string of pastel agate beads, (pictured). THE place to come for necklaces, beads, rings, brooches, bangles, bracelets and trinkets, not simply an excellent vintage store, but a collection lovingly curated by Jenny and her lovely and knowledgeable staff who know each piece personally. I simply can't recommend this store enough, do pay them a visit!

Yes, I sent myself into a allergenic fit. Despite this, I weathered the snot storm and stuck around for some browsing. This long, narrow shop is full to the point of bursting with anything and everything old. Whoever did the collecting here didn't seem to have an eye for categorizing. There are old rotary phones atop pealing bookcases, aside bowls of tobacco tins, beside fancy lace gloves, near a bucket of butter knifes. Yes, butter knifes. They also have an old plastic pay phone. And some fantastic vintage postcards. And some 1960s political campaign buttons that are damn near hilarious. If you're impatient, don't shop here. Plain and simple. But it does have a charm associated with the unknown. I made it to the way back of Towers and found a box of vintage fabric scraps. I also discovered some extra cool tin containers from the 50s and 60s. For my hobby of making new stuff out of old stuff, these were both good finds.

Walk as far as Towers Antiques & Collectables and meander your way back up to Newtown station, stopping at the bric-à-brac pack. I don't think it is called Towers because of the towering piles of amazing stuff in the store, but it should be. Step inside the beautiful old shop front and you'll find shelves lining every wall, with every surface is covered in objets d'art. Among the collections of curios you'll find vases of coloured glass, porcelain figurines, ashtrays, small wooden boxes and all kinds of other ornaments and trinkets. If you're looking for bigger items, Towers stocks antique furniture and a huge collection of lights and light fittings.
