Long time customer. No one answers the phone. Promises of when Rx ready are unreliable. Message after message left but no response. These folks are not in the hardware business, but in the life prolonging/saving business. Someone needs to remind them - if only someone would pick up the phone. I am very disapointed in the service of this pharmacy. I call and call to check on the status of a prescription that i left there over a week ago and never get an answer. I can't believe a pharmacy does business like this. If it were not that I needed a prescription compounded I would not go there or recommend this pharmacy. read more

If I could give a zero I would. We spent over $6000.00 for our dog's surgery. She needed a human drug especially compounded for a dog so I had them call it in to Martin Avenue Pharmacy. The prescription was called in the day before she was to start the medication. I went to pick it up the following day which was the day she needed it, and not only was it not ready, but I was told that it would not be ready until the following day. The level of customer service was atrocious. Outside of the doddering elderly gentleman who waited on me (but did not help me!) you cannot reach a human being. I left a desperate message on the pharmacy answering machine and no one EVER called me back. Both Telescript and The Compounder were able to help me that day by rushing the prescription. I was able to speak with the pharmacists at both places who listened to my problem and helped me solve it. I will never use Martin Avenue Pharmacy again - not even to buy a stick of gum. read more

This business needs to learn how to answer the phone and communicate. We called 4 times over 3 hours and only to be received by electronic operator. We left a message and still no communications. Then, after driving an hour, still no prescription is filled. After business hours, they called and had the audacity to ask for payment before commitment to delivery. I spend a fortune here on pet meds (see my review of Petland), and I have numerous issues with the place. First, my order is either not ready, lost, or incomplete at least 60% of the time. Obviously, someone is asleep at the switch. Next, if you try to refill your order on the telephone, be prepared to suffer through at least 5 minutes of recorded blather relating to all manner of issues about which the majority of customers could care less: Returned check fees, shipping options, custom compounding lead times, etc. Finally, with it's ostensibly unique capabilities, Martin Avenue serves a niche market, and for that I don't begrudge them a premium profit margin. But when the product is generic, and is available at numerous other retailers for much less money, don't get offended when I request a price adjustment. read more

I needed a compound for a sinus infection and the pharm tech (very pushy lady with big hair) demanded I give her all of my personal contac info, my health insurance info, & a credit card on file to boot! before the pharmacist walks over and says that since it is 2pm on a Friday and their lab techs like to leave early on Fridays, about 4:30, and if they're already busy working on something, they may not have time to make my antibiotic, but she would call over there and see if they could. (Gee...can you spare the time for a sick working mother?) She came back and said that they were, in fact, too busy to make my anti-infective and I would have to wait until Monday...with a sinus infection?!! WORST. CUSTOMER. CARE. EVER. Took my Rx instead to the Walgreen's inside of Rush Copley on Rt. 34 in Aurora -compound done in less than an hour. Brilliant. ***Read the comment from Martin Pharmacy below. Here's the thing: Walgreen's was still able to dispense the Rx almost exactly as written (as a compound) with a simple call from the prescribing physician, and it was all done in an hour! If Walgreen's was legally required to have a completely sterile environment in order to fill my Rx as you say, then they wouldn't be able to dispense it --but they were. You people at Martin Pharmacy create these hoops that sick patients like me think we need to jump through without a willingness to accommodate someone with a serious infection. Then you employ pushy pharm tech.s, restrict your hours, don't work weekends, and comment on my review as though that makes it better when I come in sick at 2pm on a Friday before you close and your employees want nothing to do with it except take my personal and credit card information and tell me to come back on Monday. That's just bad business. If Walgreen's could find a work-around, why couldn't you? read more

DO NOT SHOP AT MARTIN PHARMACY!!!! In addition to an unreasonable return policy, and restocking fee, the manager was rude and insensitive! He did not back up his employee's promise. He turned his back walked away from the counter, yelling over his shoulder. I have seldom seen a small business treat a customer so rudely. When I arrived, there was a woman ahead of me who turned around and told me they were the rudest people she'd ever met. I was surprised until I found out exactly what she meant. THEY CAN BET THEY WILL NEVER SEE ANOTHER DOLLAR FROM ME AND I AM COMMITTED TO SPREADING THE WORD DUE TO THE SHEER RUDENESS OF THE MANAGER. read more

I'm from out of state and I needed a compounded scrip. Got it done over the phone quickly. Great people and totally professional.

We are fortunate to have a high quality compounding pharmacy during these times of big pharma. It gives us increased power and creativity over our health care. Big pharmacies use unhealthy fillers and preservatives in a lot of their prescriptions, especially in generic brands. I am grateful for their service and I support. I thank Martin avenue pharmacy for having the courage to create medicines the right way, and to go up against the big companies. When needed medications cause unneeded side effects, and these are due to non-essential ingredients, I am happy to be able to have things created at this pharmacy that won't hurt my family. They have helped us out many times and I am very appreciative. read more

This place was ok, I had to get a compound filled. It took forever, which I can understand if they need to order stuff, but even when it was ready no one called me to tell me. Trying to get refills of your prescription or paperwork to send off to your insurance company is simply a nightmare. No one ever answers the phone or listens to the voicemail. Twice when I walked in there the associates were having a conversation and made me wait while they finished talking. From what I remember they weren't discussing about anything important. Long story short I would never return here unless I *had* to. Customer service is not on their list of work priorities. read more

I traveled 25 or so miles to pick up a specially made compounded prescription. The pharmacist was fantastic on the phone, the item was ready when promised, the desk staff was outstanding and when I asked about delivery, they immediately offered the services they provide. This place is so bad that even though it is not far from my home, I am looking for another compounding pharmacy. I have had an issue with every transaction with these people in the last year- refills that are not ready even though I have called ahead to make sure they are filled, botched paperwork for my flexible spending account, and a prescriptions mistakenly filled a second time within a day or so of me picking them up followed with a phone call asking if I could just get them anyway. Seriously, I am not paying 75 bucks for your mistake. Today , Monday, was the final straw. I went to get my 2 prescriptions which were supposed to be ready Sat. They were not ready, and I was told I could wait 20 or 25 minutes. Seriously , doing what? I went to get groceries and came back 45 minutes later - still not ready! This is the kind of incompetence you can expect if you are unlucky enough to do business with these people. Oh yeah, and the customer service is bad- you are likely to be ignored for up to 5 minutes even though someone has just walked past you waiting at the counter, and then may be treated brusquely when they get around to you. Some people should not be in businesses dealing with customers. The people at Martin Ave are those people. read more

Let me preface by saying this used to be our go to pharmacy for compounded medications. They have gone downhill so far in the last few years, it is hard to believe. Brought in a prescription for an anti-inflammatory cream, which does not appear to be covered by our insurance. Took forever for them to get back to us. Then they wanted to charge us a cash price of $325 for a small jar!!!On checking around the area we found a pharmacy much closer to us that would charge only $90 for the same product! Went back to the pharmacy to pick up our hand written prescription but they couldn't find it, even after searching for over 20 minutes. I was sitting in the car in the parking lot when Tom Marks(the owner) came out with the prescription in hand. Total organizational disaster here!!! And price gouging like I have never seen. This place can be as good as it gets or the worst mistake of your life- how you ask? It depends who you get. There is this very young girl who works there and her name is Brittany (I think she is 19-same age as my daughter) but don't let her small size fool you she is the best one they got! She is incredibly knowledgable and believes in my natural homeopathic approach to life. I stumbled upon this little shop when I went to my doctor right upstairs. I was immediately impressed by their selection of just about everything! They have everything you could ever want- including their own line of vitamins that are pharmaceutical grade much higher quality then you'll find at your local Walgreens. Brittany greeted me at the door with a smile and immediately jumped all over the opportunity to help me. I came with a ton of complex questions that would have probably even stumped my doctor and she was able to point me in the correct direction with ease. Even better yet, she was able to explain why I should be taking all of these things! Impressive for a girl of her age. When I left the store (spent way more than I ever could have intended) I felt educated and was even given take home reading material to further build upon what Brittany told me in the store. The next month when I decided to go in for refills on all my vitamins I brought my elderly mother in to the store to buy a new wheelchair. I asked for my girl Brittany but she must have been out for the day. It was a shame because I got the "manager" to help me. Most would find that to be a good thing but this guy was definitely not worthy of his title. He knew nothing about any of the vitamins I was taking and referred me to the grumpiest man I have ever met- he came out to help me right after he shouted to the staff (loud enough for me to hear) that he doesn't have enough time to "deal" with me. At that point I told him never mind I would just google my questions and he was satisfied with that answer and walked back behind his desk. The manager then came back to ask if I needed any more help and I informed him that I needed to get my mom the wheelchair. He then took me back to them and when he got the chair out of the display when he put it down it fell on my mom's foot and bruised it all up. During this process part of the wheelchair broke apart and he insisted that it was supposed to be like that (I'm not dumb). So needless to say, we decided to walk away and not buy anything that day. Now whenever I decide to come into the pharmacy I call first to see if Brittany is in. I suggest you do the same. It's the only thing keeping my business with Martin Avenue Pharmacy. I have been calling the pharmacy for a week and no one is answering. I left a message with a live person on Sunday, but have still not heard back. My poor dog is about to run out of his important medication, and I cannot reach anyone to fill it. I always prefer to support local businesses, but when local businesses can't pick up their phones during business hours, it says a lot about the company. They lost a loyal customer today. Their voice mail spokesperson touts "Talk with Tom Marks our award winning pharmacist and founder." Fat Chance. I had a complicated question that needed the head pharmacist's knowledge. I left nine voice messages on Mr. Marks' phone. I got not one single call back. That's completely substandard customer service!!! read more

This pharmacy has given me the worst customer experience I've had. They promised me they would have a medication ready by the next day that I needed for my pregnancy. I paid over the phone the day before and my husband drove 45 minutes to pick it up the next day. He got there and they told him they couldn't have this until tomorrow. I then called them and no one could figure out why it wasn't ready. They went back and forth between my doctor and myself about this. They finally figured out it was in the fridge and it wasn't completely done. They told my doctor they could give me a 6 day supply for now and would have it delivered to my house that night. The pharmacist then called me and told me that the ones in the back of the tray seemed to be hard enough. I was offended. I told them I did not want this medication if it was not completely done. This is a time sensitive medication and my doctor had to call in something else to another pharmacy that would be ready that night. I asked them to refund my credit card and they said they would. A week later I still didn't get my refund and I called and asked about it. They said "oh someone wasn't in contact with you about that?" And I said no. They then told me they cannot give me a refund. I'm so disappointed in the lack of commitment and communication they have with their patients. I would never refer them to another person. read more

DANGEROUSLY INCOMPETENT. Do not go here if you value your life! I had play 20 questions with them to find out fundamental information about my medications: which pill does what, what are the side effects, what drug interactions should I avoid, is it safe to drive on them? They don't provide any of this information by default. When I asked about the side effects the pharmacist didn't know and had to look it up and print it out as if this was a very unusual thing to ask. When I saw drowsiness and dizziness on the side effects I asked if it was safe to drive while taking it the pharmacist told me it may or may not me safe, depending on how I react to the drug. That's fundamental safety information that should be in bold print on the pill bottle, and I had to discover it my interrogating the guy! Then the same thing happened again with a prescription that had to be taken with food-so I was not informed by default about a basic instruction on how to take their medications and they didn't write it down anywhere until I asked them to! When I politely suggested that they should include this information by default, one farmacist started making excuses about a recent change in their computer system. Then another pharmacist chimes in saying that the law doesn't require them to provide this information. If anyone goes to these guys without the presence of mind to ask these questions their life may be in serious jeopardy. So if my grand mother went to them and got the same prescriptions I got she may have here driving impaired, and not realize it, crash like a drunk and die. They are no different than someone spiking a punch bowl at a party and should not be allowed to operate their business. On the plus side they have a nice selection of over the counter medical products. read more

Judging from previous reviewers I am not alone in saying the service and communication at Martin Ave Pharmacy is beyond poor. After being told the evening before that my prescription would be ready in the morning I drove over an hour in the morning only to be told that I had to return in the afternoon. "I'm sorry" and "they should have called you back and told you" is too little too late to save my wasted day and more importantly not going to get my daughter the anti biotics that she needs. I will do my best to find another compounding pharmacy in the Chicagoland area before returning. read more

When someone tells you that a life changing medical procedure that you're about to have is not nearly as important as someone else's "penile injection" and so, your medication will not be delivered in time for your procedure...unacceptable!!!! I had a special need for a very sick dog. I live about 45 minutes away, but was desperate for this medicine and made the drive. I ran into some unexpected traffic on a Saturday and the pharmacy stayed open late to take care of me. All for a $30 one-time order. That's customer service that way it should be. read more
