I have been seen Dr Kay for years even since he was in Burbank by St. Joseph hospital. Out of all the visits this is the first time I got asked for deposit a $500 dollar to have a small cyst removed size of a bean..There reasoning juat incase insurance does not pay I heart of deposit for deductible or out of network but not for in network. I felt terrible having to look elsewhere I always like to stick to great doctors and offices but I have to do it did not seem fare especially after having 1 cyst removed and not been asked for a $500dollar deposit. If I could give a lower star rating I would! I will be reporting Dr. Kay to the BBB as well as medical board. I came in for a small procedure to remove about 7 moles from various parts of my body. The nurse comes in and asks me where all the moles are. I couldn't remember all of them as some were parts of my body I couldn't see (like back of neck). Dr. Kay rushes in and asks me where the moles are. I tell him I didn't know and he starts to berate me for not knowing. Then I tell him because of his lack of knowledge of me or the procedure I did NOT feel comfortable moving forward. He then stands up and literally starts yelling at me in front of his staff!!! Telling me I'm a waste of his time and that my response was emotional. Meanwhile I never raised my voice or used a rude or condescending tone. He then yells at me to leave his office. There was no rhyme or reason as to why he would react this way to me or my discomfort moving forward. It displayed not only his lack of knowledge and his office's emphasis on money over patient procedures and well-being, it also showed this man is a loose cannon who poses a threat to ANY of his patients. What if we were mid procedure and he had a scalpel in his hand when he flew off the handle like this? Perhaps this was racially motivated as I am a POC. I do not know. STAY AWAY. We made a virtual appointment with Dr. Bak for a specific date and time which was confirmed by Lety and when we called, we found it was just typing back and forth with someone and the dermatologist was not even around! I would think that if we are going to be charged for a service, we would get the same quality as if we were there, not non responsive or delayed comments on a website. read more

The office staff are great and the providers I have worked with, Dr. Kay, Alia, and Gina, are so caring, attentive, and skilled, I would not let anyone else other than this team touch my face. I had my eyelids done by Dr. Kay, and I was transformed. Alia and Gina are so good at injectables, I am never sore afterwards, and have minimal to no bruising. HORRIBLE & VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! I have been going to Dr. Kay for over 20 years. Though I have had mostly satisfactory medical visits at this facility, what happened on August 30th, 2019, will ensure that I will NEVER return again. For starters, I had seen Dr. Kay in July for an annual check-up along with some minor skin tag removals and facial dermatology concerns. At that time, he was very friendly and we discussed work and family to the point where he complained about his staffing issues. He said that he didn't have time to take care of all the issues I was there for since several staff members left early without prior notice and if we could reschedule for another date to address all the items I was there for. I agreed to reschedule to a later date as I run my own business and do understand how staffing issues can be at times. He said to make an appt. at a future date and to arrive 30 minutes prior. He also said to notify the front staff that he had approved this arrival time in order for them to put numbing cream and have it take effect by the time he would see me. I made an appt. and showed up 30 minutes earlier, which also meant taking a half day off from my extremely hectic work schedule. I arrived and told the young lady at the desk that I was to be taken in for numbing cream to be applied. I was told that they would be with me shortly. I repeatedly told the front desk of the request of Dr. Kay while standing in the waiting room and watching the time elapse. I was finally taken in by one of his nurses whose name I unfortunately didn't get (I believe it is his head nurse there) as she is by far the rudest, most unprofessional and unfriendliest person I have ever encountered. She was very unprofessional and unwilling to answer my questions. She had a very condescending tone and demeanor and spoke down to me as if she was doing me a favor by taking me into a surgery room instead of an actual examination room. I asked her for the numbing cream to get a response that Dr. Kay would need to see me first before anything got done. When I expressed my concern on whether there would be enough time to finish all that I needed, she gave me a very cold and "I could care less" look and left the room. Dr. Kay came in and was suddenly a whole new version of himself: extremely rude, snarky and for lack of a better word, HOSTILE! It was very obvious that he was given misinformation by his very unhappy and bitter nurse. He all but barked at me, something about the system being down, and who or why had anyone scheduled me on a Friday for this procedure, and how he is the only doctor to do this procedure through insurance, etc. etc... He wouldn't even give me (a loyal client for over 20 years) an opportunity to explain to him, or better yet, remind him that he had been the one to tell me to come in 30 minutes early, not to mention, had already charged me for this visit at my previous visit. He then said that he was too busy for this and stormed out of the room and did not return. I asked the office staff to see him again as I had no idea what just happened, but that didn't happen either. The staff was extremely rude and the same young lady, (head nurse), actually rolled her eyes when I had previously asked her questions said she would let him know that I needed to see him. His office manager came in shortly and did her job (which she was good at) of getting rid of me by telling me that Dr. Kay is too busy and can not see me today and that we would need to reschedule eventhough I had an appointment. I asked her to send me my file which she said she would call me the following day and get over to me and I have yet to hear from anyone from Dr. Kay's office. I left there in absolute bewilderment. I have never been treated so harshly by anyone, and at a "professional facility??" They are anything but professional. I will take this complaint all the way up to the board if necessary, for if there is a "doctor" who is literally posing as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, then it should be known as such and addressed in order to prevent a humiliation of this magnitude for any other patient in the future! read more

I needed to have a relatively expensive (around $1,000.00) medically necessary procedure done in the office. I was assured by several staff members that they had checked and my insurance would cover this procedure 100%. No problem. I had the procedure done and I am very happy with the results. Unfortunately, I received a call several months later informing me that I needed to pay cash for the procedure. My insurance would NOT be covering it. I told them this was not what I had been told prior to having the surgery. The attitude was too bad, so sad, give us the money. Needless to say, regardless of the results I will not be returning to this office--even though I have been going there for many years. Time to find a new dermatologist. The only reason this is a one star review is that I could not figure out how to give them zero stars. This is very unethical behavior. read more

Where do I being with Dr. K--so much to say. I will keep it simple--avoid this dermatologist if you are looking for a professional medical provider with competent staff. Dr. Kay took off on vacation to Puerta Vallarta without notice and instructions on what to do after performing a surgical procedure on me--he had me schedule a very important follow up visit on the procedure for a day that he was to be in Puerta Vallarta. I was left in the hands of his incompetent staff (particularly a terrible nurse that I think is called Rosemary who snatched out my stiches, and did not apply the appropriate bandaging) which resulted in stress, worry and worst of all scarring of the area--ultimately, I had to go to another dermatologist to address the damage. When Dr. Kay returned from vacation, I brought the matter to his attention and he became defensive while at the same time both admitting and denying the issue--he complained about his staff and the poor bandaging that resulted in the scar (he claimed he wouldn't have removed the stiches the way it had been done and would have applied support bandaging that would have lessened the likelihood of scarring). At the same time that he admitted taking off on vacation with no instructions to me and complained about how hard it was to find competent staff, he continued to claim the issue was my skin and my skin's propensity for scarring. After our conversation, Dr. Kay once again disappeared without doing the appropriate follow up after the procedure which resulted in another dermatologist having to fix the damage he caused. Dr. Kay made it clear that he did not want to treat me or see me again--he never followed up, nor did any of his staff contact me. He (oddly) also had his nurse give me a piece of paper with the words "scar strips" written on it--which he had earlier claimed didn't work. I guess this was in reaction to my complaints about the scar he gave me. If you are worried about scarring, do not put yourself in Dr. Kay's hands--in the end he doesn't care about you and your skin. Dr. Kay is emotionally unstable and juvenile prone to lying and tantrums when confronted about sub-par medical treatment--you don't want this in a doctor who could potentially ruin your skin. read more

I went to the office to have a small hard blemish on my face removed and was assigned the PA. While Alia was lovely and gentle, the work she tried to do to remove the small blemish did not work. I called the office when I received the bill stating that I was not going to pay for a service that did not work. They could have cared less and said I'd have to contact their billing service. I asked them to call their billing service to adjust the charge since no service that actually worked was provided. They said they could not do that, and sent my account into collections which is reflecting poorly on my credit report. I had been going to Dr. Kay for cosmetic injections with LuAnn with great results, but medically I was disappointed and feel unfairly treated. Bummer. read more

OMG I can't believe how bad this doctors office is. Its honestly comical. When I first was looking for a dermatologist I came across Dr Kay and there were great reviews. I had been dealing with a skin issue for months and desperately needed to see someone. I tried to get an appt but was told by one of the receptionists I was out of network. So I switched my network to one they said they took just to be able to see him. After a month of waiting for a referral from my doctor to see Dr Kay, I finally get the authorization. I messaged the receptionists to make an appt and they tell me I'm STILL out of network. I tell them that I literally changed medical groups IN ORDER TO see him. "Oh oops you're right, we do take your group". Yes I know I already told you that. They tell me they need my authorization number...the one I already sent them. So I send it AGAIN. I finally make an appt after weeks of back and forth over something that should have taken a day to straighten out, and they tell me my doctor sent the wrong authorization number and that I would have to call and fix it. So I call them and handle it myself, and I let them know they changed it and it should be good to go. Another week goes by, its 2 days before my appointment and no ones let me know if they've received the corrected authorization number. They tell me they'll let me know when they do, mind you its already been authorized, just waiting for a fax when I already personally sent them the new number. Crickets. Day of my appt, a few hours before and no ones contacted me yet. I calI to ask if they've received it. No one picks up. I message them, they say they havent gotten anything... So no one was gunna call and tell me whether my appointment is still good in a couple hours or not? Mind you they could have just called and asked for it to be faxed this whole time and I already gave them the new codes. Half hour before my appt, still no call. I call and ask what the hell is going on and if I should even come in? "Oh yeah we got it sorry." Great thanks for telling me right before I have to leave to get there in time. I say I might be late now because no one called to tell me I was all good and they ever so kindly bless me with a 15 min grace period for my appt that I will now be late for because of THEM. They sit you down with an ipad that doesnt even work to sign in. And the nurse that came in to ask what my visit was about was the RUDEST PERSON I HAVE EVER MET IN MY LIFE. Holy god. I start to tell her about my skin problem thats been ruining my life for months and she cuts me off and says "uhn uhn uhn stop just give me the short version". Like... I'm trying to tell you whats wrong with me in detail for a reason and you basically tell me to shut up. I try to tell her what another Dr. TOLD ME I have and she cuts me off AGAIN and says "mmmm no lets have the Dr. diagnose you instead" as if I was diagnosing myself...I just TOLD you what I already know I have. I then tell her the check in ipad isnt working and she scoffs, acts annoyed as hell and says basically "idk give it to the front idk anything about that". Cool thanks. At the end of the appt she needed to take a sample and was nice enough to inform me that I could get the sample myself if I wanted to, but she "doesnt mind having to hurt me to get it". Finally I leave that hell hole. I get my prescription I notice its missing one of the items because its not covered by my insurance. Would have been nice to get a call for that. I message their receptionists again, because no one answers the phone, and ask if I could speak to the Dr.'s assistant or whoever I saw to see how I should use the other prescriptions without one of the ones I needed to use with them. 2 1/2 HOURS LATER, still well within business hours, they respond and say "sorry for the late response, the office is closed now, you'll have to wait til monday". Well you werent closed when I messaged you about my really important prescription hours ago but ok?? GUESS I'LL WAIT TIL MONDAY TO FIX MY SKIN. It's kind of a time sensitive thing but I guess not for them lol. Monday comes around, no message, no call, nothing. Finally the same rude ass nurse calls me and basically answers ZERO questions for me but just tells me what I already know condescendingly over and over like i'm an absolute moron. I ask for some clarification on something and she sounded like shes never been more bothered in her life and was eye rolling into eternity. I ask if the Dr. that saw me could call me instead because this woman clearly had no idea about anything. I couldnt get off the phone fast enough. I get a message the next day from the Dr.'s assistant or whoever it was that I saw saying she got my message about the missing Rx and would call later that day to discuss. Its been a week and I still have no received a call. This place is a joke. They dont answer their phones EVER so dont try. I never even saw or spoke to Dr. Kay once. AVOID THIS PLACE read more

This is a great location first of all right next to the freeway so it was a straight shot from my house and super easy to find big building with address numbers visible!! Refreshing! ... The office was beautiful and clean very professional and upscale feeling with a rear display of the products they offer (Lattisse).. Creams and potions etc .. My fist time patient forms were short and sweet much like the wait to see my dr who is if any indication of her work facially flawless!! .. After this angelic faced lady examined me and asked me a few questions and let me tell her my tale of trying everything under the sun for my ACNE which appeared after 25 suddenly.. She confidently prescribed me some medication with a smile that to me said "your gonna be okay".. I left feeling uplifted and hopeful which was owed thanks enough ... Dr. Kay was very kind and informative during my visit. He explained to me a prescription my PCP couldn't be bothered to tell me about, and how it worked, as well as checked some spots for abnormalities. I also had a spontaneous rash, which he tried to expand on but ultimately concluded it was most likely a fungus but he couldn't be sure. It wad very tiny and under control, so I refused testing. Staff was also nice and answered my insurance questions. Only con I can remember is a clause they make you sign to stating that if you don't show up to an appointment without canceling at least 24 hours before they can charge you $100. Make sure you read everything you sign, know your procedures, and double check labs and prescriptions with insurance, but that's true with any clinic. read more

I have been going to Dr. Kay for a little over a year and he has helped tremendously with my skin. He encouraged me to go on accutane after I had tried everything else with previous doctors. I was extremely skeptical of this drug because of the rumors I had heard but he assured me that he wouldn't have put his own children and himself on the drug if he didn't believe in the results. My skin is still clear and it's been a year since I finished taking it. I am so glad that I did it and I can't thank him enough! The only improvement I think that would help the office is the customer service from the other staff members. They are not always the friendliest. I would recommend Dr. Kay though : ) read more

Dr Kay is the best Dermatoligist, whom I recommend to people regarding "specific medical dermatology needs" related to health and more with his staff of licensed practitioners. I always went to him until a couple years ago. I'm making an appointment soon actually, for a spider bite situation that left me with a large overdue incredibly hard bump on my back shoulder. (Sexy I know) Dr. Kay treats patients as if it were his kin. He treated me after a terrible fall and his recommendations left me with no scars across my face and literally no work...he had a routine for me to follow and awesome silicone (old school tape you cut into patches, wash and reuse...not miderma). Also, as a person he cares; I didn't go in but should have when he pushed his schedule to see me immediately after a traumatizing experience that left me pretty slashed up. I love so many Dr's. Don't visit Dr. Kay unless you have great insurance and hundreds of extra dollars laying around. I was referred to him by a friend about removing a small scar on my face. I went in for a consultation, talked to him for 2 minutes, paid my $35 co-pay and STILL got a $150 bill in the mail. One month after that I got another $50 bill for a canceling an appointment I never made. Dr. Kay is a nice guy, but his office is run very poorly. I tried speaking to them about the outrageous bill and kept being referred to my insurance company--who in turn kept referring me back to Dr. Kay. Don't go here unless you want to waste a bunch of money on a useless consultation. read more

Very, very disappointed with today's visit to the office. Worst customer service. Rude with the smile on the face.. I was running a little late due to heavier than usual traffic. My appointment was at 3:45 and I called an office out of respect to let them know that I'm running 10 min late. Receptionist said: well it's already 3:46!! Then she checked with nurse and told me that they are not willing to wait 10 min and I have to reschedule. I said that I was coming anyways and they will need to assist me. I arrived about 3:58, signed I and sat in The lobby. There were a couple of patients that came after me and they were called in momentarily , but no one called my name. when around 4:10 I asked when I'm going to be seen, receptionist called nurse and they both announced that the doctor had left. I was told it was actually my fault that I didn't get assisted because I should have been trying to get receptionists attention! ( did I mention that she wasn't even at the reception!) Like the signing sheet was nothing. I pointed out that everybody after me on the sign in sheet was already called but they kept ignoring me, As I mentioned in the beginning of this message the nurse called Anna was very rude with a smile in the face she would just insulting . I needed a new dermatologist and chose Kay Martin because of the reviews on yelp. After visiting them myself I plan on never going back and need to find a new doctor. I needed a prescription refilled and a mole check out so I made an appt. with one of the other practitioners and not Dr. Martin because the wait would have been too long. When I got to the office the initial nurse wasn't very pleasant. She asked about my prescription so I started to explain why I needed it and she cut me off mid-sentence as if I was wasting her time, saying "I just need the name!" When the doctor came in to look at my mole she spent very little time and showed little concern and just said everything was OK. Didn't get the impression she cared too much. Finally after I got the prescription it took almost two weeks to get it filled! The original drug was too expensive so I asked to have the generic version instead. This sounds like a simple request but took several phone calls and several requests for information. I would ask to have something faxed to the pharmacy and nothing would happen for three days so I'd ask again, and then nothing for another three days. Finally it turns out they were using a different pharmacy without telling me! For some reason they ignored my pharmacist and went out on their own, which they didn't explain to me until at least 3 phone calls later. Once I had the right pharmacy it still took another couple days for them to fax the information needed. Overall they were very slow and unresponsive. I didn't feel like they cared very much or were concerned about helping me. Time for a new doctor. read more

My husband chose Dr. Kay to excise a lesion on the top of his head. We were told that because it was a MOHS procedure I was welcome to be with him. When I met the doctor, he said three things to me. 1 - I'm sorry you had to come in for this little inconvenience. 2 - Where this is and what this is is never life threatening. 3 - We're going to take this off and it will never come back. I wanted to kiss him! Competent, on time, efficient and affordable. We chose to get a plastic surgeon to close the wound - one that Dr. Kay recommended. I don't have much to say about the doctor himself other than he is nice but the office is unorganized and TERRIBLE. I had gone to the doctor's​ office a couple of years ago and since then had changed my telephone number. When I went in about a month ago for a consultation, I had changed my phone number on all the forms to the new and correct one. The staff clearly didn't pay attention to my new forms, which brings about a whole set of other concerns but that is beside​ the point. On the day of the consultation,​ I had made follow-up appointment to get a procedure done. I live in San Diego so I made the trip up to Los Angeles because of the appointment. I called the office to confirm my appointment early that day because I realized that I had not received​ a call from them. Its my fault for not realizing this sooner honestly. When I called they told me they had canceled my appointment and had tried to call MY OLD NUMBER. They said they couldn't get into contact with anyone or leave a voicemail, so guess what they did, just let it go. I get emails from this office all the time about promotions they have going on but they couldn't send me an email telling me that my appointment was canceled and that they tried to call me but could not get through. Prior to this issue, I also had a problem with my prescription​ and could not get into contact with a nurse. I left messages with the front desk staff and a voicemail for the nurse and never got a response back. I feel bad for the doctors who have no fault in the way that their employees handle their patients. read more

This guy is a creep, he didn't listen to my concerns or history, he inferred a bunch of weird things about my lifestyle based on ... my appearance? I guess? And my gender, definitely ... and he wouldn't do the preventive/diagnostic tests I asked for (patch test, skin cancer screen) because, in his words: "You have beautiful skin, you are clearly taking perfect care of it." When I showed him a picture of the recurring allergic facial rash I'm hoping to understand and avoid, he said, "that's not the real you." Which, sure, but it's my real face, and it really gets a real rash, and I'd like a real doctor to address the underlying environmental factors that may be causing it so I can take real steps to prevent future rashes. Also: Super rude and disorganized office staff. They couldn't figure out how to *unlock the office door* for the day's first appointments, they loudly discussed other patients by name, they interrupted me when I was talking, and they made me feel like an idiot for not knowing obscure office policies. I have had professional, caring service from ALL of the office and medical staff, and am shocked that there are any negative reviews! I have had multiple procedures in this office, from treating a huge spider bite, diagnosing and treating pre-cancer cells, laser to improve cystic acne scars, and fillers to improve my now aging face. Dr. Kay and Aliya have bettered my appearance using multiple techniques with success. Dr. Kay has literally saved my life and my skin! Prior to my visit with him, I met with more dermatologists than I can count on my fingers. Every time I came into his office, I had a pleasant experience and noticed his staff would try their best to accommodate my needs. One day I found out another doctor was going to see me because Dr. Kay was in surgery and I literally freaked out because I have put all my faith into him. Then a few moment later, Dr. Kay walks in with his scrubs!! He has so much knowledge/education and will answer any question you have! The office staff is friendly and I rarely have to wait. All the nurses are wonderful, especially Angela, but there is one nurse who does have an attitude problem. She is in her 40's and is always so angry and bossy, but other than her, I have no complaints! read more

This practice does NOT value patients' time. They called me at 9:58AM to reschedule a 10AM appointment to 10:30AM. At that point, I am already parked and walking into the building. I work 15 minutes away and only had an hour to get away from work for my appointment. Had they had the courtesy to call just 15 minutes earlier, I would have been happy to take the 10:30AM rescheduled appointment, but there was no way I could go back to work, turn around and go right back to their office. This kind of disregard for patients' time is ridiculous. read more

Dr. Kay is a wonderful doctor. I have mild eczema and he is the first dermatologist that I have been to that genuinely cares about finding a solution. I am happy with the results and will continue to go to him. I docked one star because of his staff at the front desk. Every time I go, the receptionist is cold and acts like you are an inconvenience. Not only that, but they are somewhat incompetent when it comes to keeping organized. They messed up and scheduled my boyfriend for the wrong day, even though he confirmed the date when he made the appointment. At first they told him too bad when he showed up and that he would have to come back, but Dr. Kay luckily was able to see him right then. They also billed me twice for the same copay payment. I paid the first time in cash at the office and then got a bill sent to my home. Apparently they lost the record proving I paid. I stupidly lost the receipt they gave me so I get to pay for it again. Lesson learned, keep all receipts! My general partitioner recommended Dr Martin Kay, so despite a few negative reviews, I made an appointment for my "Mohs" Surgery. First off, all the staff members were sincerely sensitive and kind. I felt scared and all members of the office and nursing staff took me under their care. Thank you all! 2.) I am a cash client and Dr. Kay gave me the best price of all eight other Dr.s I spoke with from Burbank to Pasadena. 3.) Dr Kay was efficient and kind, listening and touching my arm to reassure me when I asked questions. After nearly two hours (procedure can take four hours) he reassured me the cancer cells were clear and proceeded to close my ear up, taking his time to make sure my ear would have as little scaring as possible. I have been to this office a few times and they are really nice. Dr Bac is really nice, listens to what my problem is and takes your concerns into consideration. They are very good at what they do and the I never feel rushed along or like a number. The one down side is there usually is a little bit of a wait but honestly that doesn't bother me since that happens at 90 percent of my doctors offices and sometimes the first medicine they prescribe is not covered by insurance so they have to call in a different one or do some kind of preauthorization. read more

This office used a lab that was out of network without checking if it took our insurance and it cost us $500 due to their mistake. If you decide to use this office, double check every detail or you may end up with unexpected costs that aren't covered by insurance. When I called and asked, the reply was essentially, "we assumed the lab would take your insurance, but did not check." read more
