We needed to paint the inside of our house, specifically our living room and our kitchen after it got remodeled. Our beloved handyman Parker suggested Dan Stephenson of Allied Painting and Renovations to get the job done. Dan was quick to respond, and we scheduled an appointment for him to come visit us and give us a quote. Dan was great to talk to and easy to trust. We can right away see that he is detail-oriented and extremely transparent. He was able to put everything in writing and send us over an email with a quote that we thought was fair. We were both busy with ongoing projects, but we found a timeframe a few weeks later that worked for both of us. Dan showed up earlier in the week of our starting date to prep and look at our existing paint to see what can be used. We tremendously appreciated him working so late that day and as a bonus, he asked if we can start the project a couple of days early. My roommate and I prepared the space as much as we could to facilitate the process. Dan and his associate painter Ellison Oden showed up on time every day for four days, treated our home as if it was their own, and covered every single little detail. They didn't cut any corners. They covered and moved our furniture with care. They covered our kitchen counters, pantry, fridge, microwave, and cabinets. They protected our floors and worked meticulously around power sockets, fans, lights, and lamps. They even fixed a couple of water damaged areas in our hallway. They were punctual, polite, professional, honest, and simply the best at what they do. Dan's communication skills and level of competency are off the charts. He walks you through every decision to guarantee satisfaction. He always lets you know when he has to leave the job site for any reason. They are exceptionally clean and organized. At the end of every shift, they would make sure the place is livable as much as possible by cleaning up and stacking their tools. They put everything back the way it was after they were completely finished. We couldn't be happier with the painting job that these two gentlemen provided. More importantly, they are great human beings. A skill can be taught, but true character with a genuine sense of care is what we look for the most. Dan and Ellison were simply perfect. They checked every single box of what you would hope to get in the professionals you trust to paint the inside of your house. They are busy, but they are worth the wait. To meet someone in the trade that knew what they were doing, took pride in their work, and communicated up front any issues or decisions that had to be made was what we were looking for.  Erik and his crew took over our stalled addition; they fixed the existing floor framing, laid the sub-floor, raised the walls and trusses, sided the addition, sheeted the roof, and dry walled the interior.  They also installed all the new windows, hung the exterior doors, and installed the faux batten boards for the entire house exterior with meticulous detail. We were in constant communication and he kept me updated every step of the way. And the results were fantastic. Long review/full story: We worked together with an engineering company to draw up plans to remove a 30 ft load bearing wall. From start to finish, it was a roughly 4 month process (because of COVID) and Josh worked tirelessly from the planning process to a finished project. He does his own work and takes pride in the work that he does. He was very upfront and honest about any issues we were going to face during construction, and we worked together to find amenable solutions. Oftentimes, there are hiccups, delays, and unforeseen problems when dealing with construction and it's the contractor's job to communicate what's going on to the client and Josh is superb in this aspect. Over the 3 week construction process, we were in constant contact and tackled the problems together. Josh runs a top-notch company and his work is impeccable. After a near miss with a "contractor" aka "handyman with a license" I was on my second round of…read moreinterviews of contractors when I met Joe Ottlinger of Ottlinger Custom Building. I wanted to add a shower in the master bath and finish off the room that would accommodate the "pop out" created by the shower. I knew what I wanted, how I wanted it finished and even had the tile picked out. The range of contractors I interviewed went from a fairly large company that actually had a "project management team" (which I didn't want or need for my small project) to a guy who came to the appointment late, hurried through it, couldn't be bothered with discussing the finishing off piece in the third bedroom and then literally begged me for the job weeks later after I had already settled on Ottlinger Custom Building. Most of the bids were much higher than necessary, and once the contractors figured out I knew that, started to negotiate the price down. Joe came up with a fair bid from the beginning. Despite the fact that I knew exactly what I wanted but being a single woman, some of these guys were to say the least a little condescending. It almost felt like they were patting me on the head as if to say "Don't think sweetie, we know best." After these experiences, my trust when it came to contractors was marginal. However, Joe really impressed me with the fact that he listened to EVERYTHING I wanted including the finishing off piece in the third bedroom which was equally as important as the rest of the project in terms of making it all look cohesive and wasn't an afterthought or an add on. Since I live in California and this is my second home, not being there was a big issue for me. So I decided I would go ahead and have Joe do the demo and come up for installation. When I arrived for the actual installation, Joe couldn't have been more helpful in terms of explaining the construction phase, permit process, why he used the same subcontractors to ensure quality installation, as well as what type of construction materials were the best quality and would ensure that there were no problems with mold etc. The reason Joe can keep his prices low and quality high is that he does most of the work himself with the exception of plumbing, electrical etc. and uses the same subcontractors that he knows do quality work and are dependable. Joe has wonderful "people skills" and has great relationships with his subcontractors and inspectors so there was never a problem/hold up getting items scheduled or approved. If you have a vacation home you want work done on or live in the area of Sunriver, Bend or Redmond, Joe is the best kept secret around. Whether it's a big job or small job, he is a perfectionist, who loves what he does, making his customers happy and takes pride in doing a quality job. The job was done on time with a minimum of hold ups. He did a fantastic job on my bathroom, took great pride in his work and even had the house cleaned when he was done!!
