On a recent trip to the Cincinnati area to visit some local family, we spent the Sunday afternoon at Martino's to both have lunch and watch the Steelers game at 1:00 PM. Martino's on Vine is a locally-owned sports bar, which sits near the University of Cincinnati. It is a popular spot for the college crowd, but also serves as a Steelers bar during their games. They have a large menu of typical sports bar foods - appetizers, wings, pizza, hoagies, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and more. There is a full bar, and a variety of specials for different events and occasions, such as UC Bearcat and Pittsburgh Steelers games. The restaurant is in a more metro area of Cincinnati, so all parking is paid. There is on-street parking immediately out front, but there is also a lot behind the building. You can access the restaurant from the back parking lot without having to go around. It was pretty simple navigating here, given that I am unfamiliar with the area. The front of the building has signage that can be seen from the road. Inside, it is set up like any typical bar. The bar has seating on all four sides, and there are different bar-height tables, booths, and traditional tables throughout the space. Additionally, there is a back room with restaurant-style seating, which is more ideal for a larger group. There are also a few outside seating options. At the recommendation of our local family members, we made a reservation for our group during the Steelers game. I have learned that this bar transforms into a Steelers headquarters in Cincinnati during their games! Since the majority of us are either originally from or currently live in Pittsburgh, we take our Steelers football quite seriously, so it was nice to find somewhere that does just the same. We were dining with a party of 11, which includes two children under 3 years old. So, we called our reservation in ahead of time. The game kicked off at 1:00 PM, so we arrived around 12:40 PM. Our table was ready for us when we got there, and we were set up in the back room of the restaurant. It was not too busy at our arrival, but the bar and restaurant areas quickly filled up for the start of the game. They had high chairs to use, and the space was generally kid-friendly during this time. There was a special game day menu, but it was quite extensive and had a lot of options! Our group ordered a lot of appetizers to share, and then we each got entrees as well. To start, we ordered the Buffalo Chicken Dip, Colleen's Cheese Curds, Nacho Mountain, and Millie's Mac & Cheese Bites. These were all really good. There was plenty to go around and share with everyone at the table. For my meal, I ordered the Cobb Salad. It was a good size for the price, and had lots of fresh vegetables and delicious toppings. My favorites were the turkey and the hard boiled eggs. I also shared a Calzone with Sausage, Mushroom, and Onion with my mom, and it was very good! These were recommended to us by our local family, and they did not disappoint. Just a warning, they are gigantic and can easily feed two people. The service during our visit was alright. It was pretty packed, so getting to put our initial order in, and then ordering refills throughout the visit, were both a little slow. I ended up just going to the bar to order a beer due to not seeing our waitress for a long time. Since we were there for the game that is usually three hours long, we were not necessarily in a rush, so it was not a big deal. The food probably took about 30 or so minutes to come out. The atmosphere was fun and full of Steelers pride. There were different locals and transplants that I got to socialize with during the game. It is always fun to come for events like this and meet some other fans with different connections to Pittsburgh. And who knew so many of them were in Cincinnati! In terms of value, I think the pricing here is very fair. Nothing seemed too expensive or off the mark of what would be expected for a place like this. My salad was only $11.75, and the gigantic calzones start at $16.95. I thought there was a lot of value when you consider pricing for what you get portion-wise. This was a fun spot to come and enjoy some Sunday afternoon NFL games at! If you are looking for a Steelers bar in the Cincinnati area, definitely stop in and give it a try. It is a lively atmosphere, but fit for both children and adults alike. The food is tasty, the staff were all very friendly, and the experience overall was a very positive one. I am sure that if I am back in Cincinnati on another Steelers game day, that I will find myself back at Martino's to eat and watch the game. Highly recommend checking this place out! read more

I have been here many times but tried something new last night. I love the sports atmosphere and the wait staff was very friendly. Decided to try the calzone last night and oh my!!! Had I known the size and flavor I would always order this. It is as big as the plate, shared with a friend, and brought half of it home. I didn't get a pic before I ate it but the only thing is I did have them take it back to heat it more so the cheese was good and melted. Would recommend A+++ on the calzone!!! read more

Nostalgia wants me to score this better, alas, nostalgia doesn't cover mealy meatballs and a tastess grilled chicken. We ordered a meatball sub platter and a half a Mambo Italiano hoagie. The portions were good and the value is there, but the taste was not. Somehow I remember super tasty food. Either we hit a bad time, ordered the wrong thing (meatballs, wrong? The bar itself is fine, with plenty of drink options and a late night food menu that has very cheap pizza ($2 a slice and the slices are giant!). Only downside is that this place is in the university area and thus every patron is underage with a fake ID or very newly 21. This made us unlikely to return as we felt like we were attending a parents' weekend for the uni kids! read more

Even though the owner is a Steelers fan, he did play college football at UC so we can give him a break there. As far as their food goes, it is to die for I will give you an advance warning., if you order their whole size hoagie, it is almost 2 feet long. With that said I would suggest ordering the half hoagie. It comes in your traditional 12 inch hoagie.. you will not be disappointed by trying Martino's on short vine (across the street from Bogart's). read more

I had heard of Martino's on Vine, but never been there. With the college students away, I thought it a perfect time to try it out. So glad that I did. The restaurant is a sports bar and serves, what I thought, the usual bar food fare. I was wrong. The pizza was excellent. I shared the small cheese pizza with a friend, and was sad when it was gone. I'm sure that when the students are back it becomes a really lively place. The service was excellent and we didn't have to wait long for our food. I know that I will be back. I had a gift certificate for Martino's that I was finally able to put to use. Their menu was promising with lots of delicious-sounding bites to eat, but ultimately, I found the execution to be disappointing. Lena's Cheese Planks - A blend of 5 Italian cheeses breaded and fried to golden perfection, served with a side of marinara. $5.95 The oil remaining in the basket these were served in made these entirely unenjoyable to eat. There were actually wet from all of the oil, and I've included an image to show how wet the basket was. Maria's Spicy Cheese Balls - Spicy pepper jack cheese, breaded and deep fried, served with a side of ranch. $5.25 These were ok, but we just didn't think that this was the best kind of cheese for this type of appetizer. Pizza Bianco - A blend of five cheeses, Wisconsin brick, provolone, asiago, romano, & fresh mozzarella on top of our signature alfredo sauce. $11.50 This was ok, but there was a pool of oil in the middle of the pizza that you can see in the pics. It again made for a very wet meal. We wrapped up the meal with the Peanut Butter Cheesecake ($6.45), and this may have been the best part. It was dark and rick without being overly sweet. read more

Martino's is a no for me. Lightskin heavyset bouncer was unnecessarily aggressive towards women. He was holding up the ID line by talking to a few of his friends and letting them in without checking their ID's, then threatened to kick my group out because we asked if he could check ours really quickly because it was cold. Just extremely unprofessional and quick tempered towards women. I told a couple friends and they relayed their own frustrations with his behavior on previous occasions. I really hope they fire him before he hurts someone. This happened January 4th. I was going to contact management about the situation but figured it'd be swept under the rug like the other complaints. read more

When you're trapped inside because of Coronavirus, sometimes you end up ordering food from somewhere you might not have before. Not that I had anything against it, I just didn't know much about it (besides maybe perception of it from my college days). All I know now is that they can make one helluva stromboli! This meal was huge. I definitely saved half for a separate meal. I will say that the price still felt just a little high. it was roughly $15/calzone after toppings... but again, probably worth it for the the fact that I got two meals out of it. The ricotta cheese in mine really made the meal! From what I understand after reading the other reviews, Martinos is a Pittsburgh-Fan sports bar, so I would probably stay away on game days. Ugh, my first bad review of 2022; I hate writing these. We've tried to come here a time or two in the past and just haven't made it down. Finally on this side of town so we decided to go on in. The time on this side of town I'll make better choices. Service was slow to say the least. We ordered loaded fries and they weren't really loaded with anything. Not enough toppings and the flavor was bland. I'm guessing this is a family owned business? The table in front of us was filled with people that came from the kitchen but were just sitting there. One of them ordered a big plate of wings and sat there eating while being rude to the waitresses. After dabbing the grease off of the pizza, this mess is what was still left. Inedible. Trust me, I tried. Not only was it swimming and wet, the cheese was rubber, the pepperonis literally fell off of any piece that was picked up, and my poor little cheese planks were burned. We stopped in here tonight before catching a show across the street at Bogart's. I've been here a few other times before a show and it was ok so we were expecting the same. The food tonight was disappointing at best. It wasn't very busy, we found a seat and placed a drink order pretty quickly. My husband ordered the pepperoni pizza and I ordered a burger. I added Swiss cheese and onions to the burger also. I asked the server if I could specify how I wanted the burger cooked and he said that I could. I ordered the burger cooked to medium. It didn't take very long to get our food and that's the most positive thing I can say about it. My burger was quite possibly the worst burger that I've had in awhile. It was so dry and bland. It definitely wasn't cooked medium. It was an overcooked, dried out, frozen, processed meat patty. The Swiss cheese had been forgotten to be put on it and the sautéed onions were in the basket under the bottom bun. I had to flag down the server to ask for condiments. There wasn't anything on the burger, yet no condiments were brought with it. Still, no matter how many condiments I added I could barely choke this burger down. I ended up eating some of my husbands pizza crust, instead of finishing my burger. My husband didn't finish his pizza either. At first he said it tasted ok but after a couple of pieces he said it just wasn't good enough to finish. There's just so much to say about martinos garlic knots (found on the late night menu). I have been to NYC multiple times and get garlic knots at every pizza place I go to. But once I had martinos garlic knots, my taste buds have never experienced something so thrilling. THE BEST EVER. Also their ranch is so good, I could drink it. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. The only people keeping this place open are teenagers with fake IDs. The service sucks. The staff is terribly rude and the management is worse. I've heard horror stories about how the owners treat the staff. The entire place is disgusting. Past employees say they have roaches in the kitchen and ice machines. The last time I was here they decided to close early and rudely kick everyone out with no warning. The bar still had a decent crowd. I would never recommend anyone wasting their hard earned money here it is a complete joke the bouncers don't Id or even question the minor girls or big groups but won't let someone who was being respectful . I was there the night prio r so I knew they expected a second form of Id so I show him both of mine I have available immediately yet get declined for some reason . I tried to civilly ask for an explanation and all he had told me to do was " get the fuck out before we have a problem" keep in mind I was confused trying to explain how I was in there yesterday with the same forms of identification and didn't have an issue there or anywhere else but my opinion was irrelevant to him . I try to come back last night thinking maybe they'll realize they made a mistake , same issues the older fella has some sort of resentment towards me I even apologize to him about the night prior yet he still doesn't even have an explanation for me as to why I'm not welcome . So I call and try to voice my opinion to a "manager" that was a mistake it got me nowhere they hang up after assuming it "must've been " my fault . Toto, we are not in Cincinnati anymore. Martino's on Vind was not at all what I expected. Based on the name, and logo I was expecting a traditional, sit down Italian restaurant. Martino's is anything but. Martino's is a Pittsburgh sports bar and restaurant. The menu has a wide variety of options. Yes there are Italian options. There are also sandwiches, in various bar foods. Portions are large. Even our server warned us about portion sizes when we ordered. Many items are big enough to share. I absolutely loved the potato chips. They are thick cut Saratoga chips, that are made in house. Not over salted. From the kids meals to the sandwiches and burgers, the bread was high quality. I am really interested in trying other items on their menu. Drinks are reasonably priced. My husband ordered a slushy for adults, and it was only $3. There are banners up about drink specials when the Steelers play. Our server was welcoming and friendly. On a UC football game day, the bar ran out of beer buckets. The bartender serving my friend, in a bind, gave him a cardboard Michelob box with beers in it in place of a bucket. Unusual, but okay with us. Later on, an older gentleman approaches us about the box. He accuses us of trying to sneak in the beers, which obviously would be a stupid and illegal thing to do. We attempt to explain the situation, but the man (Rodney) interrupts us at every opportunity. Rodney says he knows the owner of the bar. I tried to explain, but he said i needed to keep my mouth shut or he will call the police. He said us college kids need to be respectful and stop being stupid. I told him we are all graduates in our mid to late 20s (not that we deserve more respect because we are grads, just pointing out he is incorrect in his characterization of us). He tells me again to be quiet and listen like my friends. He continues to talk down to us and threaten with police. My friend, a law student, calmly says he will gladly take Rodney to the bar and show him the receipt. Rodney brushes that idea aside and continues his accusations. I was furious, but my friends signaled to be quiet and respectful, in an attempt to end the situation and get the man to leave. Any time we speak, Rodney says we are disrespectful and lying and he will call the police. We had to be quiet and listen to this asshole speak about how important he is, while threatening us with a legal situation. It was the one of the most patronizing experiences I have had since I was a kid. If the owners know Rodney, please advise him to stop being the asshole vigilante of the bar. I wont ever be back at the bar and I will mention this experience whenever the bar comes up. Absolutely insane. Rodney is the personification of ignorant narcissism (aka a "Karen") If the owners don't know Rodney, be advised there is an old bald man getting his kicks by acting high and mighty towards the younger patrons while lying about being a person of authority. What a down to earth place. There not trying to be hip or cool or trendy or any of the things I despise about lots of places in the city. Their menu is packed with options and most all of them have an Italian reference of some sort. It's a sports bar but not a sports bar. It's a Pittsburgh Steelers pub. I hear they even have assigned seats on game day! I ordered the Amore. A thinly slice prime rib sandwich and it came with Saratoga chips. I ordered a half sandwich and our server brought out a 16 inch half-sandwich reinforcing the point that size does matter. The sandwich itself was okay. Had good flavor but the texture was a bit too chewy. I enjoyed it nonetheless. I'd definitely go back. My father is a huge steelers fan so I'd take him on game day. I'm sure this place gets wild! My food was stone cold, the drink selection was poor, and the overall sanitation of the establishment was dismal. I can understand why only underage college students congregate here during the night hours. Only a drunk person could find this establishment acceptable.
