I'm not sure why I avoided this store for so long, but I had. You know when you grow up in an area and are so used to a certain grocery store, you don't want to venture out any further. You know what breaks you of this habit? Relocating to a new area. I needed to get some vegetables when I was in town. We were in the the thick of birthday celebration month mayhem. My contribution was to grab the veggies for the veggie tray. I kind of had the feeling that I was about to drop some money with the way prices are now. However, I was surprised when I stopped here. I was able to grab all the veggies I needed. Carrots, celery, radishes, green peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. I may have gone overboard with all the veggies, but I really enjoy a good veggie tray. I was happy to see that the prices here were amazing. They were having a bit of a sale on some of them, but everything else was reasonably priced. What really surprised me was the parent company Martin's is part of. I kind of was figuring it out when looking at items, and seeing a now familiar logo. It really hit home when I put in my phone number for their loyalty program. Giant, not to be confused with Giant Eagle, owns these Martin stores. But, and forgive me for saying this, Martin's are so much organized and clean when compared to the Giant stores I have come into in the DMV. Also want to point out the name thing. Giant Eagle, in this area reigns supreme, and they are everywhere. Giant really can't be used here as there is already a Giant with a different logo in the PA area. So settling on Martin's was their go to. Fitting into a grocery market that is saturated from all sides. read more

I purchased 2 ham and cheese strombolis from the store. By the next day both were exploding from their package. I baked both but a tag saying how long to cook and what temperature would be nice. Frankly $9.00 for a bland ham and cheese stromboli is garbage. I recommend don't buy. Of course actually having prices on products would be nice. Having an accurate point program would be good. Having a cashier who wasn't stuck talking to the dude in front of me so I had to ask they shut up and let me check out would be better. Then I bought two take and bake Strombolis and they had no directions no temperature no time. So called store got customer service no help transfer to deli no idea call back and talk to management. read more

Martin's Food Stores - Department Stores Near Me - Indiana, Pennsylvania

Living in Indiana has its challenges. Finding decent produce/health foods is one of those challenges. However, Martin's checks that box. Their produce is the best in the area (excluding seasonal local produce not found in the supermarket). They tend to have items that Giant Eagle or Walmart doesn't carry - Tokyo turnips, interesting greens, tropical fruits. Further, their organic aisle is always stocked with things that mesh with my vegan-ish diet. Their healthy snack selection is great and they consistently run sales. I don't do my main staple shopping here as Martin's prices can't compete with the nearby supermarket giants. But if a recipe calls for something even remotely "exotic", expect to shop for it here. The store is fairly clean and I've come to really appreciate the cashiers and those working the seafood case (I interact with them most often). They are always up for a friendly chat! read more

Living in indiana, there is slim Pickens for grocery shopping. I like to go to Martins because of the produce and deli. However, this visit which should've taken 15 minutes took about 45 minutes. First off, when you work the deli you should be REQUIRED to wear a hairnet, not just a hat. The man who was working the deli had longer curly hair, that should have been in a net. I had a bad feeling about it but tried to overlook it after all I wanted to get in and out. Sure enough he gave me the bag of cheese, I looked at it ( thank God ) and a curly hair was stuck between the plastic bag and the parchment paper the cheese was packaged with. needless to say, I opened the bag and took it out because that's disgusting. So the cheese is a loss. Secondly, I go to check out to the actual people because the self checkout at martins is absolutely a headache. I put all of my groceries on the belt, and the person in front of me was in the process of paying, wouldn't accept the card (they had no use trying to use a card when they don't know how to work it in the first place ) continued to stand there for 10 minutes until the cashier who didn't know how to use his mouth to ask for help but instead turned on his light to blink to let the customer service lady know he needed help. Continued to wait another 10 minutes, no "sorry, about the wait" no "I'm sorry, we're trying to get this fixed" NOTHING. So I threw everything back in my cart and went to self checkout because customer service woman was still nowhere to be found. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOU. I will be going to Giant Eagle from now on. read more

From a parent's point of view, this is the best supermarket in Indiana. Good food, great variety and great take-out if you need to feed an improptu gathering. We used to get a lot of salads & such there for weekend parents' parties. Although it is called Martins, it is actually part of the Giant franchise, and you can use your Giant card at Martins. The reverse is true here at home -- I still use my old Martins card at my local Giant. Whatever you would find at you local semi-new or refurbed Giant, you will find at Martins. I think they called it Martins because there is already a place in Indiana called Giant Eagle, and they didn't want any confusion. Of course once you have been in both, you will agree that only someone from Mars (the planet, not the town) could possibly confuse them. The prices are higher than at Wal-Mart, so it is not the most economical place for students to shop. If your IUP student is into fresh fruit and veggies, however, Martins has the best in Indiana. read more

Open 24 hours and they have the best selection of food items in town, but the prices at Martin's are expensive. If you are looking for specific seafood, hummus, sushi, or any other exotic food, Martin's is your best chance of finding it. They also have a good selection of organic and natural foods. Unfortunately you will pay for it. Across the board, their prices tend to run on the higher end. Watch out if it is not on sale! For example, last week I went to get some miso soup and they had it for the same price per serving that you would pay in an ordinary restaurant. Ouch! The store itself is very clean and laid out well. The workers are polite and helpful. There are a number of self checkout kiosks in addition to regular registers. They accept WIC and food stamps. WARNING: You must become a member of their club to get a "Bonus Card" in order to get most of the discounts and sales they advertise. This entails giving them your name, address, phone number, and other personal information so they can track your spending habits. read more

I live about 25 miles from Indiana, so I don't shop here normally (I'm used to shopping at the Unusually Large Bird of Prey stores). What a great store! I found all the premium quality items I only dream of finding at the Iggle. The produce selection and quality was excellent. I think I will now be driving the 50 mile trip to get groceries here. A pretty decent supermarket. Prices were kinda high, but with other decent sales. The special store card of course is needed for said sales. They also have a pretty decent selection of items. An big selection of organic and healthy foods. It's pretty cool to see all those options. The layout could be better though. It seems a little too packed together. read more

The purpose of this review is to help out other college students and or others who might not be from the area. Like Pittsburgh, I've found Indiana to be a place where in order to get the best prices on food and consumables, one needs to go to multiple stores. I need to save money, so while one could buy everything at one place, it would cost more to do that. I was actually pretty impressed with Martin's. I did a direct price comparison with the other local grocery stores in the area, and on fruit, they had the best selection and quality. They also had the best price on fruit, with honeydew melons, apples, and zucchini having the largest differences. Large name brand condiments were less expensive than elsewhere, though there's always generics. Some condiments, like ketchup however, I prefer the name brands, so I will buy them at Martin's. Certain items, like dry pasta were very reasonably priced, and the selection was impressive. This store is pretty huge. It seemed to have the best international section in town. What's more, this section seemed to represent a lot more different places. They carry 'winegums', and I love those and usually can't find them anywhere locally. I saw a lot of nice novelty offerings, candy, and they just have a whole lot of selection. Good amount of housewares and things like simple tools. Bakery. Butcher. I'd say this could be a one-stop shop if you just need to save time. Certain items can be found cheaper elsewhere though. Best rice selection, but my favorite rice brand, Calrose, is pricey (however, no other store in town carries it). Essentially, I'd come here for fruit and certain vegetables, dry goods, rice, candy, possibly bacon from the butcher counter, and condiments. Possibly spices, as they have a good selection. Oh, and they have the lowest price in town on Taster's Choice instant coffee, which is my brand, so I WILL be back for that guaranteed. If you're on a budget, you just have to know what everything you're looking for should cost, and at Martin's it really seems to vary whether or not it's the best price in town. read more

I miss the good old days when the cashiers were pleasant and helpful. That's not the case here nowadays; so many of the people here are terribly unpleasant! By the way - don't ask them for assistance -- you'll receive instant attitude! I have had several bad experiences with the service desk. Two of the cashiers on many different occasions have rolled their eyes back, they are annoyed with their job. I am calling the store tomorrow because they were extremely rude to the little Asian lady behind me in line. I will call the manager tomorrow. Martins has horrible customer service. If you have time to gather behind the service desk and chat during business hours then you should be able to open up another register. Having said that, when your doing nothing but chatting, and you look at customers as if they are bothering you, you are probably in the wrong line of work. Management needs re-vamped. read more
