Shoutout to fellow Yelper Anne C who's review lead me to visit WH Podiatry for issues with both of…read moremy feet. I first visited in September 2023 and after some x rays and a detailed discussion with Dr. Rode, we agreed that I needed to have bunion surgery on each foot. We scheduled to do the right foot about 4 months later and I'm now almost 3 months post surgery so I thought it was time for a review. First things first, the office is nice, the staff is incredibly friendly and they take you right in when you arrive for your appointment. I also had the challenge of working with my employer's benefits division to obtain permission to work fully remotely during my 2 months of being unable to drive/walk and Ashley and the other staffers who I dealt with were so patient with all of my "can you fill this form out AGAIN" requests. My surgery was scheduled for 7am on a Thursday at Bloomfield Ambulatory (see my great review for that place) and the whole experience felt swift, extremely professional and calming. Dr. Rode came in, drew a smiley face on my toe and a couple of hours later I was resting in at home in bed. They did give me a nerve block that held the pain at bay for about 48 hours. Other than that, I'm happy that Dr. Rode is not one to prescribe heavy hitting opiates for pain. I received an RX just for ibuprofen and it worked well. If you look at my pictures, you'll see that I was sent home from surgery with a cool cold/ice wrap, wrapped into my bandages. I connected a device that did both icing and compression on both legs, to facilitate healing and prevent blood clots. Great contraption! After 4 weeks on crutches and not bearing weight, I was moved into a very sturdy walking boot for another 4 weeks. Finally, when I was giving my actual walking papers I did get a stern talking to about how awful my current sneakers (Pumas) would be to start walking. I did get a specific running shoe suggestion from the doc and that's what I've been using since. I will have swelling for a few months but I can tell you this, my foot looks incredible and it feels pain free. Now I have to schedule the other one to be fixed. Thank you WHP and Dr. Rode for the top notch service.

The Dr was very nice, however, felt a bit brushed off by my concerns for my son. Took him to a…read morelower limb specialist and they referred him to a rheumatologist and started him on PT where the Dr at West Hartford Podiatry had to be convinced to even order orthotics. Those orthotics were ordered at the beginning of August and weren't in till end of September. Unhappy and will never be returning.

Back in September of 2021 I went to a podiatrist before Dr. Wagner for heel/foot pain AFTER doing a month of stretches and cold therapy. The doctor said I needed to stretch more do more P/T and buy orthotics from a place she recommended. I asked about an injection and she said the area was too big of an area where I indicated my pain was. I spent the next month in pain before calling Dr. Wagner's office in near tears because of the pain. Every morning until I got into bed at night the foot was so painful. One of my dogs jumped on the bed and grazed my foot I thought I was going to pass out. I call his office the next day and I'm given a SAME day appointment because I'm almost in tears. I'm a big guy, there's no hiding that fact. Dr Wagner never once said he couldn't help me because of my size/weight which is what some practitioners utter first before anything. A full set of X-rays, a diabetic foot check, a nail trim, and then doc says you're gonna walk outta here without a problem. A 30 second injection into my foot in a couple of areas and I'm finished. He has me wait a couple of minutes before putting my shoes and socks on, which he politely offered to help with. I start to hovel out of the exam room because I have been so used to walking like I'm wearing high heels because pressure on the middle and her have hurt so much. I get into the car to start my drive home and realize that I just walked out of the doctors office with my foot fully touching the ground. I start to think, did I just imagine myself walking like that? I am really not in pain or did I just create an alternate reality to block out the pain? I get home, take a deep breathe as I place my foot on the ground and step down from the truck. There's no pain. No. Pain. At. All. I'm walking. Not wincing, not walking on my tippy toes, not thinking about cutting my foot off. Dr. Wagner and his team are amazing!! Besides my other half he's the only person I will allow to touch my feet. This man is an amazing podiatrist and if you need help go see him!
