Chef Mary Bass CANCELLED catering a MONTH BEFORE OUR WEDDING!!!! We had an Indian wedding and wanted to incorporate some Indian flavors. She told us she can do anything we want. She said we can pick any combination of food and she would make it happen! Then once we were done with the tastings we started to talk about costs and that's where things went south. We gave her a list of foods we really wanted and she quotes us a ridiculous price even after knowing our budget and ensuring us that she'd work with us. So then we started to take things off the menu as we couldn't afford what she was asking. Then she started to increase the price of each item we pick to then still make the same profit margins, which is so ridiculous (more money for less food when initially she offered us so many dishes and said would work within our budget). She then began to not pick up our phone calls, not respond to email or texts, she basically was trying to ignore us. The one time our wedding planner got a hold of her on the phone, she was extremely rude and raised her voice at them and basically said she'd prefer not to work with us, with no reason at all (A MONTH BEFORE OUR WEDDING!!!) My understanding is that there was always a minimum she wanted to make with our wedding but was never transparent about that or even mentioned it to us. If she was hust honest with us from the beginning and told us her cost expectations and if that was out of our budget we could've made a decision to find someone else with ample time. But, instead she dragged it on with the ghosting, not giving us clear answers up until a month before the wedding. She is not a professional and certainly did not act as one with us. Please save yourself the stress and unnecessary rude behavior and DO NOT work with her! It's not worth it! There are plenty of great catering places that are very professional and honest! read more

She was very helpful and timely with the delivery and that was it. We created an interactive Fiesta dinner party for our guests with Chef Mary Bass of La Cocina in Galveston. She came to our home in Friendswood with her able assistant Lewis and presented a dinner party experience that we will always remember. Fabulous food and service. Chef Mary is unique because she loves to cook and interact with guests at the same time. We learned about moles and loved her famous one with 27 ingredients and an incredible depth of flavor. She taught us how to do quick pickling of onions and our guests got to help and watch her make homemade corn totrtillas. Many caterers prepare and serve good food but none can match the interactive experience she created for 16 of us as we surrounded her. The best thing she did was get the time wrong on my daughter's reception, because I would've been very embarrassed to serve her food. Everything had been frozen and reheated. Everything was dense and dry. The desert-scones (I didn't spell dessert wrong) almost choked me and a few of my guests - the guests that showed up for the 12-hour late breakfast. The mini biscuits were very flaky- she must have folded the dough several times to get the flaky layers. The scones were delicious snd the "mini size" was a very generous size.
