The staff is very helpful and courteous in helping you meet your need in doing whatever it is you'd like to accomplish during your visit. I'll continue to support the center and encourage those who live within the community of westbury or neighboring town to stop by for a tour of the facility and support.

They probably have a set of nightstands, or a bench to put your shoes on. Maybe even a swanky vintage dresser from the 40s? Live out your mid century modern dreams, or collect pieces to create your own story. I've wandered in to search for props for parties (maps, globes, vintage luggage for a bridal shower!), to fill the gap in spaces in my own place (unique beer steins are where it's at) and even to get some basics (A set of folding chairs! A must have PRE-COVID). Prices are higher than a garage sale, for sure. I know you CAN haggle with them but I honestly won't. They're a charity/nonprofit. The last time I spoke with the owner I could tell both him and his staff had huge hearts. They honestly care about people and need as much resources (and capital) to bring about the the most change... Stop in. You won't regret it! Even if you don't take any treasures home.

It seems that The Red Cross comes to everyone's mind after natural and man-made disasters befall our neighbors our friends and our nation. The recent and still occurring Hurricane Harvey has displaced Millions upon millions of residents in Texas and the South. Our nation's fourth most populous city, Houston inundated by relentless rain and flooding. The surrounding areas and neighboring States are next as this slow moving Hurricane releases Historic amounts rain and water. As I write this report, this monstrous disaster continues to still lumber across the South toward Louisiana and Florida. I could not believe the extent of the horrific heartbreaking damage and loss of property, until I viewed photos and videos of the heart-wrenching loss and witnessed The Bravery and the courage of so many who flew like angels to rescue so many millions. The American Red Cross is here to help all people who need them regardless of any condition. The wonderful volunteers provide them with a bed a hot meal a blanket Necessities to return to normal life. My Dear Yelp friends, You need not feel helpless. You can do something! All of us Americans and all of my generous wonderful friends the world over.. ALL of us@ We just have to .. we have to bind ourselves together and help these poor folks! it could have be us again ...as it was before. Ruben works the outside & gets the names while the rest of us work the inside of the truck handing out breakfasts to the families. The families get to choose cold cereal or oatmeal if it's available. We make up bags of assorted breakfast items. Granola bars, juice, milk, fruit cups., etc. Everything you need including spoons. I really enjoy being able to help out others who are not as fortunate to have a good meal whenever they want. I love the fact that LI Cares affords you the ability to personally hand out the food directly to the people who need it. No wondering where your money goes, hoping it's actually reaching the people. It is. The appreciation shows on their face when you hand them that bag. Everyone is kind & gracious. So for me it's a win win situation. Everyone including the volunteers leaves with a smile on their face. From what I've experienced Long Island Cares is a great organization that directly helps & effects the community. Check them out in your spare time. Giving back is so fulfilling! Especially if you have a great crew like Denis, Ruben, Kate, Melissa, & Paul aka Linda to work with. I can totally seeing this being a complete hoot when Ruben, PaulLinda, and Melissa on the truck. Dennis may think I'm a little too wired for the morning but it's quite alright. Hahah. Unfortunately Christina and I were on the truck for a short amount of time because our big rush was when we first opened up the truck. But let me tell you... it is so fulfilling to see the community you're helping out. Everyone was pleasant and grateful for our smiling faces on the truck giving them their breakfast. I have volunteered at this location of GLWD over many years with my dear colleagues and friends…read more We worked in the kitchen packing meals for those in need who are afflicted with severe and chronic illnesses. The staff are a wonderful group. Always very helpful and generous. GLWD goes above and beyond since they started during the AIDS epidemic in 1985.
