I love the doctors but the wait to see one is intolerable. An appointment at 930 means you get into an room at 10 or so, then am told the doctor will see you soon, and then you sit there for another 45 plus minutes, waiting. No one checks on you. Finally an hour or so past your actual appointment time, the doctor arrives for a 10 minute visit. This was not a one time occurrence. It happens every time and their excuse is they are short staffed, people called off. Another patient in the waiting room with an appointment at 910 was still waiting there at 950. Wonder when she got out of there! The waiting is the same at the Hagerstown office. Even though the doctors are great, I will be looking for another place for my eye care because Maryland Vision Institute cares more about squeezing in as many people in a day as they can, with no regard to the patient's time. read more

I just moved up to Maryland from Florida. When in Florida, I had cataract surgery on both eyes. I went in for follow exam a few weeks later and they performed a refractive state exam as a follow up. This was billed to my insurance as a medical follow up and I was not charged anything. Here at MVI, I had laser surgery and they did a refractive state exam followup, but I was charged $55.00 for that service. They wouldn't even entertain sending the billing back through my insurance as a medical followup. They seem to be just in this for the bucks. Guess I will go elsewhere for any followups. read more

Dr. Huzzella and her team were fantastic. I haven't found a good routine eye doctor since my last doctor retired in 2015. As a new patient, they were very ready to set a new baseline for my eye care. Shout out to Debbie for being so patient with me; we probably spun through the same lenses at least 4 times and she never got frustrated. She took the time to really make sure my updated prescription was right. When Dr. Huzzella came in, her and her tech were both talking to me as if we were all professionals together. She explained everything that concerned her and told me what was updated. The staff were all super friendly and it was very easy to set up a secondary appointment. First, I had infection in my eye and I had to call 3 times to get an appointment. I left vmails the first 2 and the 3rd time I explained that this was the 3rd time and was transferred to someone at the office who said they were short staff. I find the service is to mechanical and not very personable. You have to check in at a Kiosk (they have only 1). While my doctor, Dr. Huzella is very competent and nice, it seems like she has a time limit and when that is done, you are rushed out. I would find it hard to recommend as a long term provider. read more

New patient - my 91 year old mother whom I took for her appointment. Waited nearly an hour before she was seen, then, after having her eyes dilated, she waited another hour until someone realized that she was back there- no one had identified her as ready to be seen by the doctor. I can deal with delays, but NOT ONE PERSON there was even a little concerned or apologetic about the nearly 4 hour appointment. We would 100%. not recommend because despite their gushy recordings you get to hear while on hold, their attitude seemed far from "striving to provide the best care possible" or that our time "was valuable to us." Received lasik and my left eye is perfect, but my right is not remotely. The difference is large enough that it can sometimes be mentally exhausting to compensate for the difference. That's not the end of the world, but they continuously gave me the run around, saying it was just taking longer to heal. But what they were really doing was avoiding fixing it. read more

Maryland Vision Institute has a beautiful renovated office in Frederick MD. The staff is friendly and helpful. I arrived on time which I know is important and even with another emergency patient being handled my wait time was minimal. Dr.Huzella and Maria were so kind and knowledgeable. I was really hesitant about making an appointment because it had taken more than 3 attempts to speak with their receptionists. They kept me on hold for more than 5 minutes each time and when I had gotten through, the receptionist was rude and short. Next, they had scheduled the appointment in another location after I indicated my preferences. A few hours passed and I received a call from another receptionist to verify my appointment and was informed that I was booked at the wrong location. She was very helpful and made the change. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name. Day of the appointment, receptionist (J) was not welcoming and did not provide clear instructions for the additional paperwork. Was quite friendly to other customers. I would not recommend this business. read more

It's always a pleasure to visit your Dr. Michelle Huzzella. She is the best! I was having pain in my right eye, I needed to see Dr. Huzzella so I called the Maryland Vision Institute, Hagerstown Maryland, I live in Martinsburg, WV. Due to the Corona virus the hours were limited and I had to call twice to get in touch with anyone. But very soon I had an appointment May 12th in Frederick, MD with Dr. Huzzella. It took my wife and I an hour and a half to get to the Frederick, Maryland Vision Institute. I am totally blind in my left eye and LEGALLY blind in my right eye. I trust my vision with NO ONE except Dr. M Huzzella! When we arrived I was promptly taken to the back of the office and I was going through different tests. Very shortly Dr. Huzzella entered the examination room. Usually a hug but this day no (CIVID 19). Examination was thorough. It was BAD dry eye. I am looking forward to my 6 month appointment. THIS PLACE USED TO BE SO INCREDIBLE but I went into the Maryland Vision Institute (Frederick) to see whether I was a good candidate for the LASIK procedure.  They decided I was and after letting me know that the surgeon had openings that Friday, I moved mountains to arrange my work schedule, find a sitter and my husband took off work to take me.  I arrived on time and the office seemed a bit scattered but still hoping to have the procedure I endured.  By 1:30 we were sent to an exam room and a technician and a new trainee asked if I wanted valium and of course knowing the procedure, I said yes.  Another person came into the room and asked our technician where the valium was. I am telling you this so you will get an idea of how chaotic the events seemed.  They brought me the medicine and I took it, 20-30 mins later the surgeon came in and said that this wasn't a good procedure for me and that he saw cloudiness on my lenses and he thought it would be a better option to have a clear lense exchange which had to be explained to me and my husband.  He asked me if I would rather do what he was recommending and I guessed that was the best choice since he was the surgeon?  We were so confused by the turn around and decision making, leaving stunned and getting a refund on the account we opened to pay for the procedure we left and will not return. After Dr. Huzella performed two surgeries, one day apart and having achieved a complete recovery, I returned to Maryland(although I live in New Jersey)so that Dr. Huzella could administer a Lipiflow Treatment to all of my eyelid, since I suffer from Meibomian Gland Disease(MGD). 5 weeks post treatment I am 20/20 in both eyes, the Lipiflow was a huge success and I am MGD FREE! So for 4 weeks now my mother and I have been trying to get in touch with Maryland vision institute in Frederick because we were in desperate need of new contacts/ an eye exam. After 4 weeks and getting transferred to voicemails and leaving several messages, we finally reached a receptionist at a different branch who spoke with an administrator at our usual eye doctors office. She told us that they would not see me or my mother for an updated eye exam because of my job working in a hospital and working in the ICU with Covid + patients (that's fair, I get it), and wouldn't see my mom because I live with her. However, she also stated they would not refill our current contacts prescription or give us a couple month of samples to tide us over until it was safe to be seen. I have been wearing the same contacts for 4 months now. They were putting me at risk for eye infection or worse by not refilling my prescription because I needed an updated exam, which they were also refusing to do. My whole family had been going to this doctors office for 20+ years but now we will be looking else where for a new optometrist.
