I have seen him treat sick children regardless if their parents couldn't pay. He said, "The child shouldn't suffer due to lack of health insurance." When I first met Dr. Koplow I found him to be not warm and thought his bedside manner needed improvement. Once I got to know him and saw his genuine concern for all his patients and the quality of treatment he provides, bedside manner didn't make a difference. My kids and I now find his personality to be fantastic. You have to understand that Dr. Koplow keeps it real. He does not sugarcoat anything. If he thinks a parent is an idiot he will tell them and not quietly. lol It's about the children with him. He is available 24/7 to answer all questions and concerns. He's never put off by the 3am phone calls. Dr. Koplow is up to date on all medical advances and he has a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. He is the best doctor I have ever met and I trust him completely with the treatment he prescribes for my children. His only fault is that he's a Red Socks fan. lol My kids love the way he messes with them, and they give it back, especially when it comes to the NY Yankees beating the Boston Red Socks.

His office claims to accept United Health Care, my insurance carrier. In fact, before I went to see him I called his office to confirm that my visit would cost me nothing more than the co-pay. One of his secretaries, Adrianna, told me she would contact UHC to confirm that. She called me back five mins later and confirmed, as I though, that it would only cost me $20 - my co-pay. I went to the office that afternoon and was seen by Dr. Goldberg in his miserable, tiny flea-bag of an office (there are 2 rooms, and the toilet in the bathroom makes you feel like you're in Lower East Side tenement). He spent most of the visit railing against Obama and his attempts at reform, which is always pleasant- bring politics into a medical appointment! Now.....whether or not you are in favor of Obama's stuff doesn't matter- I don't want to talk politics, especially with regard to finances, with my doctor. Ugh. Then, to top it off, I go to pay my co-pay and a different receptionist tells me that I owe $125, payable NOW. 'It should be much more....', Dr. Lame-A** says when I tell him of my earlier conversation as to the co-pay covering things, "...but I'm not charging you for the throat culture." I politely argued with them, telling them of the conversation earlier and that I was sure my policy covered a standard office visit, but they were insistent. If I didn't have a 101 degree fever at the time, I think I would have told them to just bill me. But instead, I caved and gave them my credit card. Got home, called UHC, and was told that it should have been my co-pay only. Called Dr. S**t-face and was told that, in truth, when they bill UHC they don't get reimbursed in full, and that it takes 2 months for them to get their money. So that's why the $125 was payable in full instead. These guys are lame, fraudulent crooks who have a decrepit office and claim to accept insurance that they then don't recognize. They will over-charge you and then change their story as to why, and you'll end up screwed. Stay away from these crooks.

He doesn't really offer any insight into your symptoms and on top of that, they continually try to book multiple appointments for you. I am sure this is because they want you to pay multiple co-pays. For example, on a general physical they made me make 3 appointments: one for the physical, one to draw blood (which shouldn't require a co pay in my opinion since all he is doing is sticking me with the needle), and one to go over your blood results. You may want to look elsewhere before you start booking appointments here. He may know what he is doing, but he tries to nickle and dime you and talk your ear off every visit. He definitely isn't worth that kind of time.

When I brought the vitamins home and researched the price, I found that they actually cost $12 online. I kept taking them anyway, hoping for relief from my symptoms. A few days later, my symptoms got much, much worse and I developed laryngitis, nausea, and an upper respiratory infection that left me home from work for a full week. This morning, I looked at the ingredient list on the vitamins. The ingredients include: bovine ovaries, bovine adrenal gland, bovine brain, veal bone, and porcine stomach. The medicine not only made me feel worse, it clearly didn't lead to any progress, and the doctor unjustifiably more than tripled the price that they are selling it for. I know a lot of people in the hypothyroid community may be looking for someone who is Pro Armour Thyroid, Dr. Seltzer definitely belongs to the Synthroid school of thinking. He definitely uses blood tests, so if you're someone who thinks they have a problem, but has normal levels, he probably won't give you medication. And honestly, he shouldn't, given the risk of a heart attack. I definitely think if you're someone with thyroid issues versus diabetes he's a good fit - he does research on the thyroid (you can find his published works if you snoop around) and works at Langone, which is good in case you need a sonogram. He actually checks your thyroid properly versus other places. I have been to endos who specialized in diabetes and not thyroid conditions, and since I don' t have diabetes, I haven't found their expertise as helpful as his. He also alerted me to the dangers of Spironolactone, discovered that my previous set of meds were giving me high potassium levels, and has a pretty good sense of (dry) humor. Also, his receptionist is amazing, which is why I'm giving the office four stars. She is really nimble with scheduling, friendly and cool, and will give you copies of your blood tests if you ask for them. She's also turns around referrals quickly.

Long standing problems have also included the interminable wait times at any clinic where Dr. Chavez works. I am talking two hour-plus waits before you get called in. The staff openly complain about him and apologize to the patients, it's all due to the way he repeats himself, forgets basic information, misplaces files, etc... I think this might be part of the reason he has been changing clinics so much. But the latest event that just really broke my heart was having a front row seat and watching the way Dr. Chavez just dumped patients. About two months ago I was waiting to see him (another two hour wait) and saw patient after patient show up for scheduled appointments only to be informed that Dr. Chavez was no longer taking their insurance starting on THAT day. One elderly guy explained that he had been seeing Dr. Chavez for twenty years and was there for a follow up visit because he was in the middle of treatment that Dr. Chavez prescribed for an infection. Could he be seen one last time? No. Would Dr. Chavez come out and explain what he should do next? No. Dude was weeping. It really chilled my blood. I saw three patients turned away that day and each was totally surprised; no one had called them. I was so gobsmacked that I went home and googled recommended protocols for when clinics change which insurance they take. Turns out clinics are suppose to offer notice, referrals and still accommodate patients who are in mid-treatment for something. Dr. Chavez did none of that. Cold hearted, if you ask me. Even though I wasn't affected, I just couldn't see myself going back to Dr. Chavez. His long standing disorganization now seems cruel to me. When I found a new PCP I asked her what her clinic does in these situations and she said they give THREE MONTH notice, give referrals to patients and set up a transition plan for them.
