T is an amazing nail tech - I followed her here when she moved over from another salon. I see her regularly for gel manicures because with her technique, they always last a long time. It was my first time at this salon and I found it bright and clean, and they had a great selection of DND gel polishes, including many new colors. I visited this salon today as a walk-in for a hard gel overlay. I specifically asked if they offered hard gel, and was told yes. However, during the service, I found out it was actually a hybrid gel--not what I requested. At that point, I was already mid-process, so I decided to continue, but that was my first issue. My second concern was the shaping. The tech, Tracy, really struggled with the shape of my nails, especially my left thumb. We spent about 10 minutes trying to fix it, and as you can see in the picture, it's still visibly crooked. She kept filing down the wrong side, and as a result, the nail is now too short and the original shape is gone. To make matters worse, the polish is lumpy and uneven--overall, the finish is poor quality. I'm also disappointed that I was charged an extra $5 for an almond shape when it clearly wasn't achieved. If a tech can't deliver the shape, the charge shouldn't apply. I paid $70 for this service, and honestly, it felt like a complete waste. I only tipped $2 because I had no change--otherwise, I wouldn't have tipped at all. I don't plan to return, and I wouldn't recommend this salon based on my experience. read more

Friday was my first time at Mason Nail Bar. I went there as it is close to where I live and did not want to go to my regular nail salon which is 20 minutes away in Fall Church. I walked in, was greeted and assisted by Julie. She was very nice and pleasant and gave me a pedicure and manicure. I smudged a nail and she fixed it before I left. I had gotten henna applied later the same day and did no work. The next day I noticed chipping. I did no cooking or housework over the weekend as it was full of wedding events. By Monday the chipping was very bad and this was only on manicure. My pedicure has been perfect. I've never had the polish chip before like this. It's always looked perfect even after a week. I don't use gel polish. It was regular Opi polish. It's so bad I'm removing the polish on my hands. read more

First and foremost, my $80 + tip red gel pedicure was fantastic. My toes looked lovely, and the staff was kind and efficient. HOWEVER... after removing the gel polish once it started growing out, I had a big black and green fungus on my big toenail. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before and it's only where the gel was, not on the part that has grown out. If you decide to go here, I would be very wary because this leads me to believe that they don't properly sterilize their equipment. I followed Tracy to this salon after having her as my technician at a different salon. The ambiance of the store is great and everyone is incredibly friendly. Tracy does a fabulous job with my fingers and toes--I come in every two weeks for an acrylic fill set and she's one of the first techs where my nails easily last for the 2-3 weeks between fill. She is always open to doing a fun design on my fingers and can both quickly and efficiently do my nails. I was looking for a nail salon in this particular area....because I may or may not have needed an excuse to hit up insomnia cookies right after. this nail salon is located right next to insomnia cookies across the street from GMU. we arrived a little late - I made sure to call ahead to let them know. Tina was very accommodating. they had us pick out our colors for our pedicure & my daughter got to pick out two colors for her manicure. I believe it was Helen that worked on my daughters nails & she was very gentle with my daughter. she double checked to make sure she was comfortable & even brought out an extra cushion to help her relax in the pedicure chair. I really appreciated that since she can't actually lean back into the chair. Tina did my pedicure & Gel-X set. she noticed my heels were looking a bit rough & she stood up....and freaking polished the hell out of my heel. my heels are so incredibly soft now, it's not even funny! once the pedicure was complete, she took me to her station to do my gel-x set. she let me pick out the colors I wanted from the design picture I sent her. whenever I had any issues with the manicure, she would stop & fix it so I would be happy. her attention to detail was phenomenal. she free handed the little vines and leaves I wanted on my nail perfectly. my only issue was that her spray paint gun wasn't working so she had to do my ombre by hand. this wasn't even her fault, but the white powder she mixed into the white nail polish was a bit clumpy. she did her best to get rid of them, but it's still a bit noticeable. I scheduled online and booked a gel X refill and basic pedicure with Jackie. I selected Jackie because it looked like she had experience in Gel X. When I arrived, the lady at the counter welcomed me in and I told her I had a 630 pm with Jackie for gel x refill and basic pedicure. She did not let me input my phone number on the tablet, I believe if this would have happened then there wouldn't have been such confusion. She then yells to the back area where the sink area is an says in Vietnamese what I believe was the service I needed and who my nail tech was, I specifically heard her say Jackie. One of them comes around and the lady at the front desk then repeats herself "appointment with Jackie," then the lady goes back to where she was. She tells me to pick my color. There are massive amounts of books with colors, colors on the shelves and colors on nail tips. It would have been nice if someone told me what book to look in. Then comes a nail tech who I assumed was Jackie and she stands next to me, I tell her what service I need and she just stands there. I say "where should I pick my color from?" I tell her I want to do chrome and if she had a book with chrome colors. She hands me a regular gel color book. I ask "so I can pick a color and you will put chrome on?", she says "yes, yes." At this point I should have asked her name, but I didn't. I think language was a barrier. Anyways I pick my color, she takes me to her station and looks at my nails. I say again" I am here for gel x REFILL" she takes out a nail clipper, proceeds to cut my nails, is looking for foils to soak them off. Then another nail tech notices it (this nail tech sits in the front behind the counter where check in/check out is) and says in Vietnamese that I was there for gel x refill. She then comes over and confirms with me and I say "yes gel x refill" At this point my nail tech looks confused, and like she is about to cry. She says "I cut down" she did cut them short which I am thinking, she might as well just took of the whole gel x tip. I tell her 'its ok, just continue, I am here for gel x refill" She then tells me to go to pedicure station to start on my pedicure first. A basic pedicure should last about 30 mins, she took about 40-45 mins and really I am not sure why it took this long. She brings over the gel curing machine, I tell her "no, no, I just want basic pedicure" Which I had said 3 times by now. She again seems flustered. She finishes pedicure we go back to her nail station. She looks at my nails and says "we cut short, umm, umm" I tell her again, "it's ok," because by this time I just want to be done. She starts to file my nails, doesn't even check if they are the same length. She asked what color chrome I want. I say "is there a book I can look at to see colors," she brings all the chrome pots over. I pick a color, by this time there are only 3 nail techs (her and 2 others) and me and one customer. We go to check out desk, she asks me for my name, I tell her. She keeps starting at the screen. I say "do you want my phone number to look me up?" she says "no, no." She stares at the screen again and then finally asks for help. A nail tech comes up I tell her what services I got. I pay, plus tip and I am sorry I shouldn't have even tipped her the amount I did. I then look at my receipt and notice 1) her name is Zoey!! I did not schedule an appt with Zoey, I wanted it with Jackie. 2) she charged me for cut down!!! Cutdown that she accidentally did, I did not ask for it and you charge me! My length on my nails do not match, except for 4 of them. I really wanted to love this place, last time I was there in early July I had services with Gia (she was good), but it seems she is no longer there. I came here because they offer gel x, not many places do. Not sure if I will be returning, well back to look for places that do gel x. read more

So, i am a career Waiter, and after 4-6 week, my calluses build up that make it painful to stay on my feet for prolonged periods of time. Thats why i drive nearly 30 minutes to come and see Tina! Honestly, the only reason I continue to make room in my budget for my nails, is because of her. She has great attention to detail and is careful to take good care of my nails. I had a pretty disappointing experience here. I made an appointment for 3pm for a Gel-X manicure and spa pedicure on a Friday afternoon. When I arrived, I was serviced right away. I wanted a gel pedicure and as I was reviewing the menu, one of the nail techs tried to upsell me for another *more expensive* pedicure. I get that they are trying to run a business, but I was already splurging on a spa pedicure instead of a regular one. The nail tech who did my pedicure was nice, but she took a super long time... I don't think I've had a spa pedicure that was over an hour long. I was in the chair for about 1 hour and 45 minutes; there were 2 walk-in patrons who came in after me and were done before me! I had gel on but it honestly shouldn't have taken so long to remove. When I told her that I had a hard stop at 5:30pm for childcare pickup, another nail tech came to start on my manicure. The Gel-X manicure was rushed as they only had about ~30 minutes to complete it. There were two nail techs who ended up working on me so they could be done in time. The UV light got hot a few times on my fingers... I've done Gel-X before and it has never gotten hot. The end result were bumpy and uneven nails. I ended up cutting them and going to another salon to get them re-done. The salon itself is clean and tidy which was a plus. They used new tools and wore masks during my service. The prices are higher that I'm used to but #inflation. read more

Small on the outside cute and big on the inside clean, bathroom has a freaking heated toilet seat! But my nails I had taken off my set of almost 2 years. Very painful finding someone to put on a fresh set and it's just right well I live 27 mins out and I will be making a point to come out here to get my nails done. I docked a star because I made an appointment and had to wait 25 minutes and also because there was barely any cuticle work, which was disappointing. The place is clean and new. Update: a representative from the nail salon, called me within five minutes of posting this review and apologized for the experience. She also offered a refund and for us to come back to improve the pedicure. Unfortanately, we were not able to come back, but were appreciative of the gesture. Original review: We had a terrible experience here for the third time. The first time, we thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt because they were new. Today, I called to make an appointment for my daughter and her friend to get a pedicure as a special thing and for me to get a manicure. They set my daughter and her friend down but my daughter sat there staring at the wall for 30 minutes. They started on her friend and I asked several times when they were going to start on my daughter. It didn't happen for 30 minutes and then when they did, they rushed through it and only spent about 10 minutes on her. Not only is the customer service very poor, but also the quality of the service. I attached pictures of one of the pedicures. Also, they did not do anything to attempt to make up this poor experience. As I shared, if they were too busy, then they should not have taken our appointments.we are very disappointed for something that was supposed to be special and uplifting. read more

I want to start off this review by saying that the staff at this nail salon are the nicest salon staff I've ever encountered. This review in no way reflects the character of the technicians as they are all really talented and kind. With that being said, I wouldn't be honest if I said I left my nail appointments 100% satisfied every time. Specifically the last three times I have been to Mason Nail Bar, I had left feeling anxious about my experience. When this place is good, it's really really good. Every time I've been, I have had different nail techs. I'd say my best experiences have been when I've had my nails done by Ska and Gia. The nails they've done are clean, even, and long lasting. Their work reflects their attention to detail and care. I have ended up giving it 3 stars though because the last three times were subpar. The first of these three visits was the heart design nail. I don't usually do designs on my nails because I've had bad experiences in the past where the tech rushed the job and each nail ended up looking wonky. I didn't want a design that visit but the tech I had kept insisting I should do one even though I had already declined. She said it would look boring if I didn't do a design so I gave into the pressure and found a design on pinterest that I thought seemed simple enough. The design ended up looking wonky and uneven across all nails that I ended up peeling the gels of the dip days later. The second time I was disappointed was the matcha green nails. The nail appointment ended up taking closer to two hours to complete which felt way longer than normal. When I had finally finished and went up to pay, I noticed the polish was already peeling and clumping. I was already pushing it with time but the nail tech did a quick gel top coat to fix the problem. I loved the nails despite the amount of time it took, until the gel top started peeling and chipping on the sides a week later. This previous time that I left disappointed was today. It really is unfortunate for me to say because the whole appointment I thought the tech I had was very kind and nice and I was enjoying my time. Toward the end of the appointment though, a regular of hers came in and the rest of my care felt rushed. The top coat on my dip again didn't dry properly so she scraped off that coat and applied a gel treatment. In the process of that, the polish on my thumb became uneven and is now ridged and dented looking. This was also the only time I've been to Mason Nail Bar that the technician skipped on doing the lotion at the end of the appointment. I left the appointment with my hands feeling dry and rough from the acetone used during the appointment. I think this place is great because of how nice the staff are and how clean the premises are, but I would be lying if I said my experiences are all satisfactory. I have tried scheduling appointments with the technicians I know are good, but end up getting my nails done with someone else. If you can ensure that you're getting your nails done by someone at this place you know will do a good job every time then this place is the best, but other than that I have found it to be a gamble. read more

My friend recommended this nail salon and we went for a mani/pedi to celebrate our birthdays. I booked Tina and she did the best job on my nails. I showed her a couple pictures for inspo including her own designs and she did her own little spin. I absolutely loved my nails with a fantastic color and cutest little design. 4.5 stars Love the final look of everything~ This was my first time trying GelX! My technician was very patient as I decided on the length of my nails and shaped them perfectly. Not a lot of cuticle care, but wondering if that was another option/manicure upgrade. There were a couple moments where the material got a little too hot, but when I mentioned it to the technician he lowered the setting and it felt better. Took photos of underneath the extensions because there seems to be a little excess material (?), but then again my nails were very short so not super surprised. Decor/interior was very pretty. I got my nails done here for the first time on Saturday 7/1/23 and two of my nails have a pretty aggressive infection now! I've gotten my nails done every 2-3 weeks for almost 15 years and have never had any type of fungus/infection ever before!
