Mass mutual provided the 403b plan for an agency I worked for. After several months of working (and putting away contributions- without employer matching) I decided it wasn't a good fit, Mass mutual charged a significant administrative fee to roll over my contributions to another plan. Worst Life Insurance EVER. My mom has a Flexible Premium Variable Life Insurance Policy VLS, has paid into it for decades and is seeing her Account Value decline day by day due to exhorbitant and outrageous fees and apparently no returns on her investements (62% Large Cap Blends and 38% Guaranteed Principal Account) which should have had amazing returns over the last many years. MassMutual is the WORST company ever. STAY AWAY AT ALL COST! I had my 401K money there for years, fully vested around 1M. I decided to take my share out and put that in an IRA account and they just wouldn't release my fund! Ended up calling a lawyer and started to file a law suit until they got scared and released my money. Called them many times to ask for help and nothing. I called their customer service lines several times a week for months, was on hold for at least 45 minutes to 1.5 hours each time trying to get a supervisor on the line. Each and every time the person who answered the phone said they have no power to escalate the call and that I will have to hold more to see if anyone is available. And as a part of their sick game, while I was on hold trying not to miss the important opportunity of speaking with the supervisor, an unknown called would call me which I would obviously reject to be able to stay on hold. Come to realize that the unknown caller was in fact a supervisor "trying" to call me!!! On many occasions I ended up getting super frustrated and got very upset when the reps would not let me speak to anyone who "HAS" the power and authority. I ended up calling my lawyer and he said what Mass Mutual is doing is entirely illegal. I called MM and mentioned that and quickly got my distribution in the mail. I will not recommend their company to ANYONE, worst customer service, super rude people to say the least, and of course they do everything not to release your money! Not to mention that our money was pulled out of our selected investment choices without our permission and placed in a money market account for over six weeks. During this period, the market had huge gains, while our $1M sat there and did nearly nothing for us. read more

As a trustee I bought an annuity for a retired individual in an Oklahoma assisted living facility (the Grantor of the Trust). I live in California and manage all his business. I live in California and want all correspondence sent to me but the legal state for tax purposes must be Oklahoma. MassMutual can not handle this. They can only have one address. They are idiots and talking to them is to no avail. They do not differentiate between mail address and legal residence address. Further you can not call a representative since the phone is automated for computer response. When contacted supervisors do not return calls. Letters sent to them go unanswered. This place is horrendous to work with. Needing to make a withdrawal, I was told that a bill was not a bill and that i needed a breakdown of service, when that was sent it was something else, and then something else. I highly recommend not doing business with these con artist. read more

Horrible Company over 3 months trying to get documents we've been lied to 5 times waited 2 weeks at a time for promised mailed documents that never arrived also still waiting for promised supervisor call back which never came. I would avoid this company at all costs. read more

I have been getting calls every day, EVERY DAY. I don't know how these people got my phone number, but when I called the number back, a recording answered and gave me this number MA number. The number that keeps calling me is a local number from Memphis. 901-463-1844 I'm assuming it's some scam. When I called this number in MA, I opted for the operator, and she asked how can she direct my call, I asked if they can remove my number and stop calling me, then she started yelling at me! Saying she doesn't know who's calling me and that she's only the operator. But I answered her question, all I want is to be removed from the call list, and she yelled at me saying she doesn't know who's calling me. I hung up on this rude woman, and called back to hopefully get another operator. This time when I was transferred, the line was silent like it was on mute for a few seconds, I didn't say anything, then when the operator finally spoke, it was the same woman that yelled at me from before, this is a sketchy company. Do not do business. I never have and I suffered anyway. read more

In my opinion, Mass Mutual is extremely unethical and crooked. My parents had two whole life policies with them. On one policy the company just took $2500. When my mom learned of the about the theft, she tried to redeem her other policy. Instead of doing as requested the company tried to sell her a loan. When the loan didn't fly they refused to send the paperwork to process the withdrawal. Instead they had sales reps and company reps calling to harass her. It seems that they know how to prey on the elderly. read more

Horrible customer service and Horrible service period! I lost my job and they were still taking my loan payments out of my checking account each month on time (which I wanted). After my December payment, I got a 1099-R form for the balance of my loan. I called them and they proceeded to tell me that I defaulted on my loan bc I no longer was employed even though I was still making my payments through ACH withdrawals each month on time including DECEMBER! How did I default?? 20% penalty plus taxes and adds to my income that I didn't even make!!! The first guy I talked to was nice and "thinks it was an error" but the guy in charge was out of the office and he was going on vacation and won't be following up on it but "Lisa will". Well, Lisa never called me. I call 4 days later, and Kimberly was rude as hell saying it's only been 4 days and someone will get back to me in 24-48 hours (or possibly by days end!). It's been over 36 hours and no phone call and I've been on hold for over 30 minutes asking me to "please hold and thank you for your patience " as I type this. Horrible business and zero satisfaction!! This should have never happened and should easily get resolved and isn't!! Stay away!! read more
