I wish I could say otherwise because I'd really like to support this place & the local artists represented. While shopping, another guest asked the cashier about if any weaving classes were available in the near future but the only response was a grunted "no." Seems like a friendlier response was warranted so I stopped the shopper on her way out to tell her & her daughter about "A Place to Weave" in Fitchburg, MA. My point is, isn't the Worcester Center for Crafts mission to support the craft community? It isn't hard to do and a friendly word goes a long way.

I discovered this place last year and am so glad I did. This isn't crappity ass crafts. It is a…read moreplace to learn artistic crafts. I took glassblowing and flame work. Glassblowing was very interesting but too hard for me. I'm really glad I took it for the experience and I would probably do it over again just to try it out. It requires a lot of coordination, so if you are as klutzy as me, you might find it too difficult too. As described in their catalog, flamework is: Tthe process of shaping glass rods and tubes into small objects over the flame of a torch. Begin by making beads, pendants and marbles to establish a foundation of technique. As the class progresses, projects will advance to include the creation of solid sculpture and hollow forms such as flowers, holiday ornaments, and perfume bottles. Small class sizes and one-on-one instruction allow students to work at their own pace. I love this class and the instructor, Jake Vincent, is patient and a great teacher. You don't have to be quite as coordinated to do flamework. In addition to glass classes, they have classes in clay, metal, fiber, photography, wood, and design and multimedia. They have a gallery too. I haven't been yet, because the glass studio is in a separate area of Worcester. I've heard its great and intend to go soon. I'll update this post when I get there. Oh, and it isn't as far from Boston as you think. Check out their catalog on their Website.

Our 1 month old daughter passed away and we knew we wanted some memorial art made from her ashes…read more We found Terrapin on Google, and were happy that it was a local business. We got a little tour of the studio, they were professional, and courteous. They kept the idea of "preserving the chain of custody" very present, which was extremely important to us. We did not want to have to mail anything anywhere. The pieces we received were very nice, we got 3 suncatchers and 2 adder stone pendants. Very impressed with the quality, the glass is very dense and heavy it feels good. I'd recommend this business to anyone looking for custom glass art and a respectful, local business for memorial art services. We are VERY happy with what we got, but if I had to give any feedback to this business it would be: Picking up the finished products was a bit of a let down. We had to make an appointment and they left the glass outside in a lockbox. An old COVID era policy. It would have been nice to actually thank them for the work, as this was a very emotional, connected process for us. We had to make appointments to drop off, and pick up. And to be honest my wife didn't love the idea of "our daughter being left in a box outside". I'm really not trying to sound overly critical, I just want the business to know this is our feedback on the matter. Overall we TOTALLY RECOMMEND this business. The finished products are really nice, and the quality is really something that's offered us a lot in the way of being able to continue to love and hold our daughter. I'd give the products a 5/5 based on everything, but I'm gunna give them a 4/5 overall because of the dated policies.

I booked a 2 hr Private Glassblowing session, and YES, it is worth the money. First, Mark set up the appointment and was very accommodating throughout the whole thing. Dan was our guide and instructor. He was AMAZING!! Both of us had almost no, or no experience at all with this, and it is such a detailed process with many steps, but Dan reviewed it with us ahead of time, and guided us appropriately the whole way. He loosened his guiding hold when he could sense we had it, or put an extra hand on when he knew we didn't, haha. He even let us go into it with novel ideas, and really let us explore. In the end, our vessels came out absolutely beautiful. Similar, but different in subtle ways. The perfect pairing for us two as partners in love. Thank you so much for this special, unique, unusual, and transformative experience. We would love the opportunity to go again sometime.

He welcomed me into the class and quickly caught me up (super appreciated). The class was informative, easy paced and no pressure. If you need a hype man, even if the piece isn't showroom worthy, Mark is your dude! Complimented each student, offered soft helping pointers, and even went hands on to help save some pieces. Already would love to take another class or start using their rental times to use the skills already taught! For $85, all materials included and two hours. Totally worth it.
