The staff member working in the fitness area (moderately sized but very nice quality equipment and lots of natural light) was actually DOING SOMETHING, i.e. walking around and putting stuff back in their proper places! Never seen that at any other Y I've been to, where staff just stand around, fiddle with their phones, and generally just use up oxygen---unless they are personal trainers working with a paying client. Not only that, the guy actually noticed that I was new and came up to me, introduced himself and offered help if I ever needed any! Absolutely flabberghasting staff behavior for a YMCA, lol! If only every Y were like this. 2. The fairly new, spacious, and coed sauna next to the pool area (there are no longer single sex saunas in the locker rooms, I was told) was actually heated to a decent temperature (190F according to the thermometer hanging on the wall at chest level) AND had two levels of seating so you could actually get a decent sweat on, as opposed to some Ys that for some boneheaded reason have only a single low bench which is completely useless because duh, heat RISES so why in the hell would you want to be sitting so low when it's already maxed out at some wimpy 150F? (Cough cough, Melrose and Framingham YMCAs.) The disadvantage of a poolside sauna though is that it's a pain to go back and forth back to the locker room shower for a cold rinse every 10-15 minutes, as opposed to a locker room sauna---but this is not a fatal flaw. 3. The treadmills were by a brand called Matrix I had never seen before and I got on one hoping that it wouldn't totally suck like the Precor treadmills---happily, it did not, though I was disappointed at how tiny the screens were after being spoiled by the huge 24" screens of the Life Fitness treadmills at my home Y in Cambridge. BUT it had one beautiful feature the big fancy LF treadmills lacked: a built in cooling fan at the top of the console, which was absolutely delightful! Wish this feature were standard on EVERY piece of gym cardio equipment, lol. Only a few minior gripes about this place: - Almost all the stationary bikes were the geriatric recumbent kind. No Keiser bikes, which are the only ones with decent ergonomics and that actually feel like you're pedaling a real bike. - Kettlebells are few and max out at 22kg, which is barely enough for one handed swings and presses, but much too light for loaded carries or two handed swings. - Oh and it'd be nice if they had some hanging boxing bags, or at least one. This is one of the things that sets the Cambridge Y apart: an abundance of free-hanging real boxing bags, not the useless water-base standing bags. This gym appears to have neither. Overall though, this is a very good Y and I will be sure to return next time I'm in the area!

Miss Emily, Mr. Ross, and all the YMCA staff were especially helpful. Our 40" ventriloquist puppet sang "We are all here in Foxboro and we say thank you". After our Tennis Ball puppet sang our version of "Happy Happy Birthday", everyone joined in singing the traditional "Happy Birthday" to the young boy who will celebrate his birthday this month. Special thanks to the children who joined us on stage today to play our tambourines, maracas, and drumsticks in tempo with our music. Some even volunteered to demonstrate their new ventriloquial skills after choosing a puppet of their choice from our big drum case. Volunteers were encouraged to say their first name into the microphone and try moving the puppet's mouth three times as they said "One, Two, Three" with their new puppet voice. We especially want to thank the male and female YMCA counselors who volunteered to be our HUMAN DUMMIES, wear our male and female ventriloquist face masks, and help us sing our "No Bully Zone" (No, they did not sing at the same time... we're not that good!)

Personal Best does a great job on teaching the kids self defense and life lessons. Along with a very good offense & defensive tactical program they teach the kids about honesty, integrity, giving back to others, how to handle bullying, etc. Personal Best also holds events like charity 5k runs, giving out Thanksgiving meals and so on. It really is a very impressive program and if your an adult looking to get into karate or just get in shape, this place is great for that too. In addition, Personal Best has started a Jiu Jitsu program! I feel this is a great skill for women to learn!! I was looking for someone who would work with my 14 year-old brother on the 5x5 program that his school had assigned for the upcoming soccer session. Filipe was fantastic. He modified the program to better fit my brother's soccer needs and was incredibly patient and down-to-earth. My brother worked with him for about 8 weeks (roughly 3x a week)and felt huge difference during tryouts. The facility is brand new and well equipped plus Filipe's pricing is incredibly reasonable. You pay as you go and there is no need to sign up for an annoying gym membership. Here is what my brother has to say about his time with Filipe: Filipe not only helped me to become a stronger person but a more determined one, as his deep knowledge of fitness combined with his welcoming personality and unending patience created an environment of hard work and perseverance. His emphasis on proper form taught me the importance of not only the weight of what I was lifting but the technique I was using to lift that weight. Additionally, Filipe did not judge me but rather encouraged me to keep going when I made mistakes, giving me pointers to do so, all leading me to not only obtaining the strength I needed but the knowledge and work ethic to continue to develop. So in closing, Filipe's knowledge and understanding of fitness not only create a friendly environment to work out in but a mindset centered on hard work and dedication. P.S. - I recommend arriving 5 minutes early for sessions to accommodate yourself before Filipe starts working with you. This whole summer, they just let us go into the pool or gym with my mom just telling her full name. Danielle is at the front desk. We walk up, and she asks my mom for this tag thing, and my mom doesn't have her tag since we've always entered by our names. Danielle then keeps on pressing us to download the app, which we have never been obligated to get. My mom asks, "Can we do this later?" and Danielle keeps saying that "all their members require to download this" This whole time Danielle was talking to my mom in the most passive aggressive tone you would ever hear. She was incredibly rude. My mom has a Ukrainian accent, upon my mom first speaking, Danielle's expression changed. She was acting the whole time like she was the manager, and that she was better than my mom and being very very rude. She was talking down to my mom like she was a third grader. When Danielle FINALLY asked for her name, my mom says her name which is pretty uncommon for people to hear since it is Ukrainian. Danielle asked if this was a LAST name. My mom said no and spelt it out for her, Danielle kept repeating the first three letters like four times, quadruple checking if she spelt it right. This name isn't even hard to spell by the way, I could spell this word if I was in kindergarten. Well, to sum it up. Danielle is just unpleasant. The pool and gym are very nice, though.

My husband and I joined years ago and I found the club was truly the only environment I had ever ENJOYED working out it. The facility is bright, clean, cool, and doesn't smell like all the hard work happening inside it! The pool is beautiful w ample comfortable seating and for families and kids. There is a snack bar that serves typical kid friendly treats and quick eats/smoothies. Over the years of attending, we have gotten to know so many wonderful staff and regulars who attend. The employees are genuinely helpful and kind-hearted. I once witnessed a staff member helping to coordinate procurement of bathing suits for one client who wasn't able to afford them, but wanted to participate in water aerobics after undergoing treatment for cancer. My family and I lost my husband, Tom, about 8 months ago, and the owner of the club, Bob, and the Director of Child Services, James, reached out to provide support to us in multiple ways that were incredibly meaningful to our family. I cannot say enough good things about this facility other than it should never be called a facility because it is just SO much more than that! We love you, Addy Club!

CFTC Truly Cares - More Than Just a Workout!…read more I was a member of CFTC when it first opened in 2012. I loved it then but life got in the way and I left for 8 years or so. I was always waiting for the time when i could return. The time finally came and I was scared to come back because i was so out of shape and gained a lot of weight and not feeling very confident. My fears were for nothing, the moment I walked in I felt welcome and comfortable. It didn't matter the level of my fitness because there are all levels of fitness there. The coaches are top-notch, offering modifications and guidance for every fitness level. They push you to reach your potential while prioritizing safety and proper form. But what I appreciate most is the emotional support and camaraderie. During a difficult time in my life (losing my husband), CFTC became my Happy place. Members and staff offered kind words, listening ears, and even hugs when I needed them most. If you're looking for a gym that truly cares about your overall well-being, look no further. Best facility/apparatus, most clean, best location, parking, viewing spots for parents, and instructors, who really seem to care about teaching the kids. There aren't long waits to use the apparatus during classes like we've experienced at other gyms. The kids rarely stay idle. The front desk staff is friendly and tries their best to be accommodating with regards to getting you into the class time you're looking for. We've only been there a couple months but looking forward to seeing our daughter really grow in the sport!
