My daughter had her fifth birthday party here. We had gone to a birthday here several months ago and she had her heart set on this place for hers. The two young women who led the event were absolutely wonderful managing several 4 and 5 year olds. Everyone had the best time, and I had parents telling me how much their kid loved it. Some said they would be signing their kid up for lessons! My one criticism is that it is pretty hard to reach someone about birthdays. I had left several messages and it took a few days for someone to return my car. It was much better once we were emailing, although I did have to email a few days before the event to confirm and ask when we could get in to decorate. read more

Both my daughter and son were enrolled in weekend classes for a while and it was fine. They enjoyed it most of the time so we kept at it. The instructors were just okay. My daughter had a hard time doing kartwheels and got no help at all while practicing, and felt defeated a few weeks in a row with a specific instructor who paid no attention to help her. Other instructor were better, but not all were created equal. I found the facility dirty and smelly, but tolerated it because the kids enjoyed it. We decided to try out the summer camp the following summer and I enrolled my daughter, who was 5 at the time, in for a few weeks. It was going fine until the third day I dropped her off. She was having a hard time with me leaving, and the young instructor was not particularly helpful. She gave her some coloring pages and was sitting with her talking to other instructors as I walked out of the building. I got in my car and a few minutes later started to drive away. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw my daughter had run out of the building alone into the parking lot looking for me. I jumped out of my car in a panic and grabbed her. When I walked back into the building, there was ZERO concern that they had not supervised my child and had not even noticed she had run out of the building. They looked at me like I was overreacting when I explained my concern. I was horrified by the lack of professionalism and disregard for my child. I will never return or recommend anyone to this facility. read more

For parents of toddlers thinking that this gym is fun like 'little gym' or a day at a trampoline park, think again. This is very much a no Fun environment. We enrolled our 2.8 year old in Waltham Gymnastics little dippers class. We assumed it would be a fun way for him to practice jumping and burn off some energy in a safe environment. During the first class - the toddlers were introduced to various elements of the gym, including a large trampoline that they all loved. The next class however was different, no trampoline allowed - in fact the class involved having the toddlers go around in circles doing a very basic obstacle course. During this class I guess there was some instruction on how to perform things like rolls but nothing really valuable. The toddlers were not allowed to vary this routine or wander away at all so loop after loop. The changed location of the loops but still - climb this little matt, roll on this little matt etc.. Some of the toddlers and parents seem to like this - they obey quite well. Mine, not so much. He found the environment stifling - there was no fun, no laughing and he basically spent each class trying to get to the big shiny trampoline that was teased on the first day. Now, this is where the big complaint comes. My toddler runs toward the Trampoline and I chase after him. The older lady leading the class, tells us 'This is not a child led class! Try holding him down' in front of the other parents - followed the next week by 'Parents are bigger for a reason' implying that we should be more forceful with our son. We were physically dragging him around - any more forceful and he would be injured. This is not an appropriate way to talk to customers or parents at all We left the class as it was not helping our child socialize or burn energy and we didn't fancy being lectured every week by a skeleton in a leotard. I wonder if this attitude is reflected in the general lack of interest in child safety in the larger world of gymnastics? This was a brief introduction to the world of Gymnastics and can certainly understand why so many are miserable in that world. No Fun allowed. read more

When I decided to enroll Princess #1 in some kind of preschool gymnastics classes we tried a bunch out first. (Most places offer a one time trial class visit free.) We ended up going with MGC, and we weren't disappointed. We picked them because: 1) they're a real gymnastics training center (unlike places like My Gym) so if she really got into it she could continue on there indefinitely 2) the staff were really friendly and really good with kids and 3) they were the cheapest by far. Their early preschool classes are for ages 18 month - 3 years old, and the parents stay with their kids for the whole class. My daughter started just before she turned 3, and it wasn't a problem being with kids much younger than her. And it also wasn't a drawback that she started out so "late". She caught up to her age level quickly. Over the summer after she turned 3 I signed her up for a few of the older preschool classes, which the kids do without parents. My daughter was still too clingy to handle that, so we aren't continuing for now until she's a bit older and more independent. read more

My son's been taking classes here for 3 years, so obviously we are fans. There are only a few reasons that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5: - You have to be selective in your teacher-- some are awesome, a few are just okay. - It can be chaotic and very busy; after school and on weekends, there are multiple classes going on at the same time. If you are doing younger kids' classes during the day you can find quite small classes or large classes. Look around at different time slots. - The building needs to be updated. It smells like stinky socks and old pizza. It could use a paint job. The equipment floor seems to be well maintained. Overall, it's a great gym-- and if your child gets into it, they can stay here for years, unlike places that cater to just preschoolers. read more

My daughter is in the preschool class and the first few months have been a great experience. The little ones learn real skills without pressure. The class is 18-20 girls and boys for the opening stretches, and then they break into smaller groups of 5 -6. My daughter attends with her best friend, and they are always allowed to stay in the same small group. My only criticism is that the waiting area is always pure chaos. There are classes ending, classes starting.... it's too small, noisy, awful, and poorly lit. There aren't enough chairs for the parents who are waiting, so people wind up standing or sitting on tables (preschool classes are 45 minutes, so mostly it's not worth doing a drop-off). But since my daughter has a great time, and this was literally half the price of the other gyms we looked at..... two thumbs up. read more

Pros - The classes are age appropriate & they really are teaching gymnastics skills at early as the pre-school class. My little one has been in it for the last 2+ years (since she was 3) and loves it very much. Most of the coaches are excellent. Very knowlendgable, warm, encouraging, and enthusiatic. I say 'most" because some of the younger, college-aged girls do not seem to have the control or authority over the classes they way some of the main coaches do. You can see the difference in their instruction, their lack of focus (may just be experience in teaching) but overall, a solid staff. The staff at check-in are warm and welcoming. They make the kids feel like they are part of somethig special. Doc takes special pride in remembering as many names as possible. That's impressive given how many kids attend this place. Cons - if you need to talk to someone in the main office or if you have a billing question, they rarely return calls or respond to emails, even after multiple follow ups. It's very unprofessional and frankly, frustrating. The cubby area for clothes and jackets for the kids is pretty filthy. The Saturday classes are chaotic, and they definitely feels like there is a favoritism thing for kids who can attend weekday classes vs weekend classes. If you are able to have your kid attend on weekdays, do it. You'll get better attention and assistance overall than you would on the weekends. They also seem to do more activities with the weekdays kids (Halloween dress up w/preschoolers but they didn't do it for the Saturday kids). Overall, if you enroll into MCG, make sure you request your kid to be with the head coach for your age level. Your child will build a foundation of skills transferable to other sports as well as build confidence in their ability to manuever their bodies in new and exciting ways. read more

My daughter was injured at an MGC facility, and while we certainly understand that accidents and injuries can be a part if gymnastics and can occur anywhere, the manner with which this was handled is absolutely unacceptable. My daughter was on bars- at the time, there were 4 different girls on 2 sets of bars, and they were unsupervised, as the coach in charge of them was turned around watching a separate group of girls warm up. I have observed this on many occasions, and should have spoken up a long time ago. I turned to my other daughter to speak for a moment, and when I turned back I could not locate my daughter who had been on bars. I waited a few moments, assuming maybe she was behind one of the scattered mats or went to the restroom. After probably 3-4 minutes, I was approached by another coach and asked if I was NAMEs mom. (Having 2 daughters who have attended classes for almost 5 years, I would have assumed this was known!). I answered "yes, where is she?", to which she replied "don't worry, we've called an ambulance". I again asked where my daughter was, and ran to her immediately. Her coach was with her, and repeated that an ambulance had been called. She was alert, breathing, and not bleeding- in absolutely no instance should they have called an ambulance before finding and telling ME that she was injured, when I was IN THE GYM. I declined the absolutely unnecessary ambulance, and took my daughter to my preferred hospital where we learned her elbow had been severely dislocated due to her having been unsupervised and not having been spotted while on the bars. She was in a solid cast for a week, and a $2500+ custom fit brace for the next (still ongoing) 90 days, due to gross negligence. While we were very unhappy with the way the situation was handled, the worst was yet to come. One week later, our other daughter had her end of year show. Our entire family was at your facility for this show, including my older daughter, and not one single coach had the human decency to ask how she was doing, or even say "hi" to her! We were absolutely disgusted to see this. Our younger daughter had to go back to the podium and ask for her sister's end of year award, and it was handed to her with "sure, here", and yet still she was not addressed. My daughter left in tears that evening, to think that noone cared. I am extremely disgusted with the way this incident was handled, and she only one of several who have been injured at this facility this season. We also found out, most disgustingly yet, that the Coach told my daughter when she turned around and realized she was on the ground, that she was NOT ALLOWED to cry, because she would cause a scene. She told a SEVEN year old with a severely dislocated elbow, that she was not allowed to cry!! MGC will never get a dime from our family again. read more

I have been very happy sending my daughter to Mass Gymnastics in Waltham the past year and a half. She is still in the preschool classes but has really done a nice job with the direction of the coaches. The coaches seem to stick around and get to know the kids that come through the programs. Even if we move to a town with another gymnastics center, I would probably continue to send my daughter and now son to this location. Recommend highly! read more

This is my second year bringing my daughter here and I really don't want to sign her up again but I might have to...she really seems to like it so I might have to put my differences aside and resort to writing this review which might help me get my frustrations out. The instructor is good, she knows how to control the kids and is very good with them (when she's there - only missed a few classes, but nonetheless). When she's not there, the young instructors (school kids maybe?) have absolutely no control and the class is a mess and frankly a waste of my money. The turnover seems rather high from last year to this year so if her current instructor leaves, I will leave too. It's not fair to the kids nor to the paying parent. The front desk woman is really rude and condescending. She really doesn't seem to care about any comments you might want to make. She'll smile at you and nod her head like she's pretending to listen but it's very obvious that she's not genuine. The schedule's are terrible. They really cater to stay-at-home parents who can take their kids to classes at anytime. Their schedules are not very conducive to working parents. They should really consider adding a range of evening classes during the week. I wouldn't mind paying a little more if they added some evening classes. Overall - It's a good gym if you get a senior instructor who shows up and stays, and the price is very good. For these two reasons only I would recommend it. read more

Mass Gymnastics is wonderful. My daughter is a dancer who wanted to learn some cool "tricks" to enhance her dance routines. Had tried Kids U, and Planet Gymnastics which were fun, but she didn't actually learn anything. At Mass Gym, they are doing REAL gymnastics. In 2 sessions she had perfected her cartwheel and is now well on her way to a back handspring. My only gripe is that one class ends at the same time the next one begins, so the teachers are totally inaccessible to parents... For my 8 year old that's fine, but I think if she were younger, I might have a problem with that. Excellent! read more

This establishment is so dirty the first thing we do when we get home is shower.The equipment is visibly worn and some pieces look dangerous. (Although I did notice 2 new pieces last week.) The bathrooms should be reported to the Board of Health and the changing area should be shut-down. The waiting area for adults needs a good scrubbing and more chairs to avoid standing for an hour. Moving children up to the next group is difficult, never any openings and a long waiting list. What is wrong with the management? Child is happy and enjoys her current teacher (who is absent a lot) for the 3rd time. Hope the next instructor is competent. Why do we continue? She IS happy and can't find anything in the area...but, I am looking. read more

I've been bringing my girls here for a few years. The staff is friendly and the kids really learn. It's a bit expensive but you get value. The teachers are great with the kids and push them to do their best. It smells bad and is pretty noisy but all in all a great place! read more

My daughter has been attending Mass Gymnastics in Waltham for two years, and we're finally going to stop. The administration is awful. Emails and phone calls are always unanswered. Staff are rude and unprofessional. The place is dirty and smells horrible. The staff are unhelpful, and turnover is very high (although my daughter says her current female teacher is very nice; however, this teacher was absent several times this session without any explanation why. We never know who the substitutes are or what their qualifications are). Mass Gym allows an unbelievable number of students to attend classes, and the place has become a complete zoo, unlike a few years ago. During a recent end of year show, we personally know several families who literally could not find parking spaces, and they literally missed their children's performances!!!!!!!!!!! There is no air conditioning, which makes it unbearable when it's warm out. I would not recommend Mass Gym to anyone :-( So sad. read more
